hmmm... IMO..and IME..Peavy was decent enough at a time when there wasn't much else... Ampeg and Fender were too expensive and pretty rare and along came PV with high powered rigs..for the time..at decent money and it was a step up for most The gear was solid but basic but being able to put out a reasonable sound around 200watts was the main thing. It had volume...and the BW wasn't a bad speaker. By the late 80's things had moved on..but PV's bang for buck was still ok. Sound had been woefully left behind though. Peavey ..AFAIK..always knew where their core market lay... Decent-ish stuff at an affordable price. They probably stuck to that mantra better than most. But, just like HH and other stuff from that sort of era... it can't stack up..and neither should anyone really expect it to. If it does a job, then that is ok.

Like to look of the Sad J5... muchley didn't get to try the AC..??

Sounds like a great day out

I wouldn't do it..I'll sell and get the cabs that I wanted and needed
Surely what matters is not how powerful your rig is, or even how loud it is ... what matters is whether it is loud enough for what you are trying to achieve.
This. I run two amps...one is 400w into 4 and the other 550. Gain runs about 2 on both and volume between 1 and 3 for a decent size place. I know that will be enough on a decent sized stage outdoors with poor or no bass monitoring bar me and FOH. I choose what rig to use based on a large or small stage footprint. What do I care about how loud it is supposed to be in terms of watts? I have enough and the amp does not run out of steam pushing the sound I want. Some amps do not run high volumes very well, IMO...and the sound changes more fundementally than you'd like.

Not bad.... a crowd comes in late so a 10pm start would be a good idea for next time. I thought we were flat and only finished the gig strongly as couldn't raise it before that....everyone else seemed pleased so the band will settle for that. The band gets good reviews but I would prefer to get more people in..so this is a fine balance between our set and what punters demand/expect/want.
Agreed - that implies the cab is not sensitive, which I don't think is the case. There's a difference between needs, and can handle 1000 watts
hhhmmmmmmmm !!

Pleased you find yourself in this position. If you have a regular gig, I'd pick the rig of choice and then change the car to transport it if required. In my case that would be a 610 on tilt castors and appropriate head..probably a DB750. I'd also have a scaled down smaller rig for those tighter places. I get Sei to make me a Custom J5 or find something in the U.S that I wanted. That is assuming that this money was all surplus and over and above doing a few more important things.

Plenty of horror stories here about buying blind particuarly the cheaper basses and I agree with them often feeling very different across same models....which would make not playing it before purchase a ridiculous idea, IMO
Another option would be to get a (used) Ampeg preamp and a decent power amp. Works like a charm.
Not in my experience. The Ampeg EQ stage is poor, IMO, and you don't want to have to fight it. I find the Ampeg valve amp works well as a package if you can just plug'n'play but not when you split it. I've used the pre and power amp when provided and I can see why hire companies might find this attractive..weight, servicing etc.. but if has been a major let-down whenever I have had the misfortune to have one...and I preferred to see Ashdown..out of the two and that is saying something. Ampeg..and to a lesser degree, Ashdown, must have very active product placement but I am not convinced they could justify it otherwise. More iconic than market leader, IMO

Did a gig with them in Perugia.... I remember the Tea pot song and Dave Allen surprised the hell out of us but going on morning runs and being a health freak, by all accounts. Surprised the hell out of me. Really nice gig, AIRC

I had a bombproof TNT combo with a BW..and it did a good job at the time. I have better kit now, IMO...so I don't use use PV anymore. Thats about it..nothing more than that.
-
I've had both...but only bought either bass as it sounded good to me... If the bass didn't sound good, that was that...so I don't think it matters beyond that.
ive turned up to gigs where they've expected me to use a small amp, which is why i always have my rig in the car just in case. ive learnt to wing it without monitors now, a lot of places ive played have had either inadequate sound guys who can't get the levels right or don't have monitors at all
I never trust most P.A companies to be able to put the bass through the monitors as I would want so I always take my rig..even to the point where people tell there is a rig supplied...and when I ask what...I get something glib like 'top kit'..oh yeah..?? I take mine unless I have talked this through with the Engr re mon mixes and backline and even then, I'll only not take it if travelling space is an issue. The last point is only a factor if we can't get the proper travelling/transport exes..so 99 times out 100.
Aww that was quite subdued for a EBMM thread I can't help but think there are a few comments directed at a BCer though . I wonder who it is
Subdued..??? is it..? Jeez...I think some might have a few issues...and I only read half a page -

I don't think this thread should be closed until a final conclusion is complete...or at least until Gareth wishes it. And if I were G, after all this time and hassle, I would want to see the money in my bank first. just my 2p... -
He could have at least chosen a pretty one!
I'm surprised it is not his normal colour scheme...

Sounds like a nice deal for him..... Sei, AC, Fodera....
PS im also in the search for a couple of aguilar 112s, either SL or DB to pair with a thunderfunk eventually so ill be keeping my eyes pealed there as well....
Great choice, IMV. I can certainly say that the DB type bias work very well with a TFB, IMO. Have to say, not heard the SL close up ..but my thinking is that they was be quite a strong hard edge over say a GS cab..which my drummer loves, btw. I prefer a bit more shout through the range which I get with DB210's over say, GS112's. For me, the GS112's works really well with new strings... but I can't be changing them every week.

My interpretation of hand made is a hand routed body and neck and sanded down by hand. This would probably be done but a one or two, maybe 3 man op producing 50 odd basses a year, for example. As for Sadowsky or some others, I wouldn't be too concerned about that part of it...as long as I could get a few mods that I wanted to suit. The build quality would have to be a given.
Well this is off topic as regards to the "super" designation, but I must say that I don't find any of the pictured cabs to be home made. If you could/can do better then lets see it. I have just changed to Hartke hydrive 112 cabs x 2, a combination of age, back, and need, and whilst they don't look "homemade" (that is unless you live on the set of Blakes seven ((ask a grownup)), they have an unbelievably cheap look and feel to them, handle, corners, badges, grill, covering, all look like they came from the pound shop. This is just my opinion, and it is backed up by owning them, not merely bashing them for fun, Oh, but back to my point; no matter how cheap they look, they sound good! (again, just my opinion!), and that should be the point. How many of your thousands of fans listening to your multi platinum Cd's can see what your gear looks like?. They are more concerned with whether you can play it, or not. Cheers Pete (be nice)
It is simple... get someone who can do the job. I think it is funny some of these self proclaimed super cab makers miss that little point.. I've seen a dodgy few websites as well It just makes me think that if they scimp on some fundementals...IMO... ???

I have two..and they play, feel and sound way better than any Fender Jazz I have played.

NOT GREAT NEW BASS DAY - EBMM Ray HH Matching Headstock
Hopefully you get the bass you want in good condition If you haddnt of went to ebmm with this then they wouldn't know that s&t Are swapping necks on basses to fill orders. Well they prob know alright but choose To ignore it. 15000 views is alot of publicity and it's a shame nobody is coming out as a hero for Stepping up and making this right for you. You have been waiting far too long Either money or basses by he end of week is the only real answer.
After all this trouble I think it was a good idea to go direct. That way EBMM know about the problems AND the order, I assume. This is the best chance to get a good result, IMO... as EBMM will want to make this work and have to power to do so... and also might look into any other issues behind the scenes. I have to say I would have bailed long before though...but that might no now be helping the OP to make up his mind. I look forward to a very speedy, complete and satisfactory result for Gareth any time now. -
Certainly one of the best looking set of cabs, IMV.
