1. For me... at replacement prices..just shy of £10k -ish
2. Be careful how you phrase that advert. Not sure loser amp will work. Lol But it is always good to have a play around with what is out there. Good fun.
3.
Value/Price doesn't come into it for me, I gig what I own. My basses range in value from £200 - £5000 and I don't consider the value when I'm doing a gig, as they are instruments to be played and enjoyed.
Agree.... My basses are to be played and they get taken out. My basses are pretty expensive and we don't play dives but by the same token I am not worried about a ding here and there... they can always be refurbed..altho I do take very good care of them and don't ask for trouble.
4. And more OT, don't Mention Ampeg or Boogie to these guys. Lol. To name just a few.
5. Ok. I'll dig a big deeper. Down this neck of the woods there a few good people who were making amps around that time and designing other market leading kit. And although they are mostly retired industry types now they still keep their hand on and see a lot of that stuff come their way.
6. Fine... But I am talking about late 70's type gear. The kit might have been older but i don't recall many surviving on gigs I did back then even as a kid. And I don't see it crop up now even with guys that insist on carrying valve amps. I asked why these are regarded now and all you can come up with is don't trash my thread. To that I'll say I don't see anyone running them now when people are far more discerning and will spend the money to get what they want. So even if you try and accuse me of not knowing what I am talking about re SC, I'll bet you will not know anywhere as much as the Gtrs round here that shun them..... Again. You'll see.... or hear all manner of boutique amps plus tops from Cornford to Soldano, various tiny kettle amps, Marshall, Park and a few old TnB's plus the obligatory twins... plus you'll have amp makers, designers and techs and only one guy uses a SC top but he isn't known for his sound at all and couldn't afford to change anyway. So nope. Not buying it
7. Black widow were the chassis to have in an era of average 15's. This is why EV, JBL and the like made ground as they were a cut above. A BW should slot in easiest so go there first but any decent chassis today could work IF you spec the enclosure and chassis right. Iirc the amp will produce 115w into 4 so not a bit ask for a speaker
8. But my point was that these amps were poor back in the day. Hiwatt were tops followed by orange and Marshall and sound city nowhere. Now if these amps are regarded now then that doesn't say too much for todays amps. When I was just starting nobody touched them although I was lucky to own a sh*t Marshall 100w before I got hold of a very nice Hiwatt. Thankfully PV came along but they were awful by today's standard.... Understandably. That is not to say that one or two SC amps weren't good but the build seemed VERY variable from all the makers, I think. Which is why basically average kit like PV got such a hold..... Consistancy and solid build.
9. Amp and 210 and then add another 210 when req'd
10. Lol. Auto correct on phone. Must keep an eye on that but posting via phone doesn't really work
11. Don't mean to rain on a parade here but what makes these amps desirable now when you couldn't give them away in the 70's and 80's....? IIRC
12. I like 2x210's as they stack higher than a single 410 albeit by not so much and they are a decent carry. The cabs are still weighty but they lack a very good punch. Solid cabs and solid sound, IMO. Slightly OT, I have been comparing good solid wooden cabs against composites for full range P.A and every time I have liked the wooden cab better. Not the most scientific process but enough for me to focus on this aspect.... It makes the arguement of weight and carry more pertinent, IMO
13. Wax build-up is natural and compounded if you put things in your ears. Once you have been fitted you need to keep your ears free to maintain the fit.
14. Far more interesting than 99% of the stuff pub bands play. Well done. You might have to work harder but at least you will not bore anyone.. Too easily.
15. Understandable if you are feeling a bit left out but you made a decision so you need to come to terms with it. Do agree about the timing of the announcement though..!! Sounds..... Er, odd.
16. The point about venues being in competition with each other is more pertinent these days than ever but if they talk to each other they can schedule bands and gigs to share around the limited punters around these days. Local town runs Sundays gigs from lunchtime to late evening and some hardly souls will last the distance. Lol But they manage to keep the bands from clashing too much. Of course, this communication can work against as if they share bands they also share other info like fees. You may be able to up the rate by £50 but no more. It is a very vibrant music town though and the gigs that come from it offset the lower pub rates but if you are mostly a pub band then you have accept you will work cheap for the most part. Cheap round here is £200 and tops out @ £400 but if you do too many pubs in the same area..... You harm the exclusive pub appearance rate.

18. We have a min per head but that is based on what we know the market can take. Some gigs are never going to be able to pay £200 but then the choice is ours whether we like the gig well enough to play it. All pub/clubs are loss leaders anyway and our fee for pubs goes from £200 for our friends pub..to £400. We don't do many pubs anyway but if they serve a purpose, we pick up parties from them anyway. You have to pay that game, IMO..if only to keep the band ticking over tightly between better paying gigs. If you analyse it the vast majority of pub gigs are too much work for the money...but then you will have a hard time getting off the ground without that shop-window. Private is one thing... but if you want festival and stage work and ticketed gigs..which all pay far better money, then at some point someone is going to do the numbers and ask if you are worth the fee...and for this, you will need a fanbase. Most venues these days...are far more conscious of the band bringing in more than the venue can attact from local customers.. so if you charge top dollar..or want to..then the venue has to see that difference. Mostly..apart from Private, what youw ant to charge and what you can charge are two things... and the bottom line is through the door or over the bar. And as long as you can deliver on that score..almost, anyway, how, then you'll find your won level. P.S Landlords talk to each other so they know what is going around..!!
19. I am often checking out what I am doing and what the band is doing...and it is as important to interact with them AND get your parts right ..but it is also good to 'connect' with the audience so you should look out front from time to time when you can. You basically have to know what is going on all around and not be obviously too much in your own bubble. You can think people don't take note of what you do, how you do it, but you expect them to acknowledge your work when you are introduced to them...so a little bit of a connection there helps both ways, IMO. But if you are playing s***, then there is not anything that can really rescue that... no amount of jumping around and grinning and whatever..you just look like a demented tool. Get your parts right, get the band moving..and then take time out for the audience.... that would be my priorities. And if you look approachable, you'll likely get more people coming up afterwards..rather than the usual gear-stalker loner/saddos'
20. [sup]Do the hard yards on the phone. Venues get to know who works for them and who doesn't so they may indeed have a reliable rosta and there are always news bands wanting in on that.[/sup] [sup]You have to make your deal attractive over and above other bands to squeeze in.[/sup] [sup]Basically bands are two a penny and also a bit of a risk so you need to convince them otherwise... but without the BS...[/sup] [sup]There is nothing worse than conning a venue when you can't deliver.[/sup] [sup]Best tactic is to go in under budget for a one time intro offer only....but not too cheap as why would anyone want to book a band that is cheap and desperate?[/sup] Well, some Landlords might do..but then you should be wanting to avoid them as much as some LL need to avoid certain bands
21. KInd of defeats the object for me..go light, small and compact and then rack it to get close to where you would start with a full sized amp. The whole point of these mini amps...as far as I am concerned...is that you throw them in a bag and over your shoulder. Not a route I'd go down anyway until I find a mini amp that is as good as my full amp.
22. Obviously not a fan but nothing I've seen as LIve TV makes me want to delve any deeper. The songs seems to add up to a complete zero to me..
23. Gotta go with the consensus here... good start but now a pile of pap..
24. Me too... bomber amps and cabs which will run forever..which is admireable. I just think other amps sound better, but if bang for buck ( cheap ) was the deal, then they would be right near the top on my list. 20kgs for a combo..??? isn't going to happen easily if you play hard. I suspect we will be seeing the lighter end of kit come back to haunt us in some respects... if that experience in P.A's is repeated. If you drive something hard and long you need a big engine that can do that all the time...if you are peaking out all the time, then something is more likely to break more quickly..
