1. I kind of agree... I think it is very useful to question these products ..as Stevie did, and have Baer, in this example, reply. It may well be that bigger concerns would not touch this type of interface and scrutiny with a bargepole... I think this is a positive outcome, a poster raised points and the maker backed his product. We can pick the bones out of all that and I would still want to hear one of the cabs..or rather a pr.. Credit where credit is due ..IMO.
2. [sub]ha ha ... I am not trading my DB210's..[/sub] [sub]If someone will buy my Berg AE112's, I'll have these.[/sub]
3. Anything by Kings of Leon... gtr dross for the most part and as dull as dish...
4. Indeedy.... my 2x210's sound monstrous and punchy at the same time. I also try to run quality ..IMO... 2x112's and they come up short. I still need a 2x112 rig for the compactness of it... but I still need to find the right cabs. Having them referenced against 2x210's isn't a good idea, as this make the 'shortfall' apparent, IME.
5. Plus 1 For Martin Audio Our ICT500's were brilliant and I regret letting them go for a steal...WITH controller...!! I think a controller with your kit with be a big help, if they run it like that. I think Martin Audio is a step up from the QSC and HK stuff...but you may suffer from a parts issue. This is natural when kit no longer is supported or made, but you can pick up some great kit for silly prices, IMO is you are careful and lucky.
6. SWR410 Goliath ll was a CLASSIC cab in their day and a benchmark at the time, IMO If you can find a good SH one, you'll get a LOT of cab for little money. Nowadays Aguilar have stolen their clothes but they are other good 410's around as well. Not a fan of GK... and SWR aren't as pre-eminent as they used to be. On a list of 410's I'd say S/H Eden and SWR of yesteryear... great cabs but Heavy. New/newer. Ag GS410 F/S in the classifieds, the other day, IIRC. Ag DB410 or 2x DB210 which is my choice. Berg 410... in any spec. or 2x210. Not a fan on Ampeg but you could check out them and Genz. Also look at EBS and Epifani..???
7. Bad timing = bad player in my book. So, sure, pull them up on it. But are they a keyb player or piano player....? I tend to prefer the latter as they will have a better grounding and probably far more time on it. I don't like keyB who can make a very good stab at piano parts.. FWIW.. Nord is great stuff...and we are trading in a Kuzweil for Nord Stage 2. Of course, they weigh in heavily...so we will drop down to 76 for a little gain there in weight and space..hopefully.
8. For a medium prices and decent performance, HK and QSC do well. You'll need subs, for sure if you want to put anything heavy thru QSC...altho the KW12 will allow grt and key bleeds at a loud pub volume. I think the older heavier (wooden) HK is better than the newer stuff....but that is more anecdotal than experience. The Elements isn't going to work on a band, IMO and it VERY expensive for what you get... i,e you are paying a LOT for small and compact. QSC K series WITH subs works out at £4k -ish and I think it will handle a pub no problem. If you put it in a room for 200 people or a decent sized marque.....??? you'll find its limit. This is not so bad as you should be hiring in for those gigs IMO. We use KW12' tops for 100 odd people and the band can get very loud... but all from backline. The P,A ..without subs just about stays with it. Subs would extend the use, IMO ... but in practical terms, not by £2k's worth...which is what you'll pay for Ksubs...there or thereabouts. We think a small sub/subs like EV ZA1 for £1000 the pr would do us far better in term of just enough ooomph and half the price of Ksubs..... The K subs are either 212 which is weighty or the 118 which is a monster...
9. Now you know why the gig is available...
10. Take it all on the chin. In this instance, one poster has raised a few points, and the Maker has answered. Not blood spilt and honours around even. I'd far rather that state of affairs than a blanket fawning acceptance of a product for whatever reason.. Since Baer is new-ish to our market, then I like to hear the warts and all story...IF there is one... and I think the product shows enough to still be in the game. I'd say well done, Stevie and well done Mr Baer. I think the points from both were pertinent not frivolous, IMO.
11. My attitude is, if you can't fund the gig it isn't worth doing, 99% of the time. That applies to the venues who should know and have a market and be very active at building one. Breweries around here see fit to 'invest' in a music scene as they benefit massively from it. No one said it is easy, but i can pay off...even in this day and age
12.
I've just noticed that I started this thread way back when. It's about time I chipped in again. So... none of my bands are particularly loud. Would a single ML112 do for me?
I guess there is loud and loud..... but I don't like to run cabs close to the limit as it makes everything much harder work. Some kit will do it...in technical terms, but the sound suffers, IMO. If the kit is regarded as being comparable to a good 210..?? then it wouldn't cope with my band on its own..would be my feeling.
13. If tests are supposedly too technical for most to comphrend, translate, analyse or relate to something meaniful, then they are just as worthless in some regard. At the end of the day, you aren't going to buy something marvelously spec'd but sounds horrible to your ears... you just wouldn't, surely... For me, there is enough about the Baer cabs to be worth a demo...and then we would go from there...even though I don't need any more cabs. I like the design look and the spec sounds good...so the next step would be to hear them in my context. Subjective views are just as valid as the technical review, IMO.. they all build a pciture. but they don't make you buy them unheard or unseen.
14. The problem I have here is 3000euros down to 1000euros. I don't know what arrangemenst thr guy may have had to get the extra 2000euros but I would have thought that would have had to have been in place with the bank..or he had it on him. If the buyer had ok'd the photos then a 2000euro off the price offer is pretty bad... If he had doubts, he should have talked therm through with you... I understand 3000eu price is something to be very picky over...but the lowball offer..??? Just as well your courier had the good sense to walk away. In fact, I think you were lucky ... I think the suggestion of a valuation is ok.. but then the only one that really matters is your own
15. I wouldn't have mentioned the other band you are in, but not sure about. The key here is to only say as much to get you in with a shot..and then you decide if/how you want to pursue. I wouldn't worry about it tho, they haven't actually sold themselves either.
16. And F/S thread
17. If I knew the guy or we struck up some instant rapport...and I was going to be in very close attendance, then I might be quite keen to lend someone a rig if I thought they would really appreciate it. And if I do say so myself, my rigs are a more than decent spec. I have even offered to lend my A rig to a BC-er's mate when he tours round here...but then I know he is endorsed and REALLY understands EQ totally...and he knows the amp very well.
18.
And another thing. All those who think that other bassists are not to be trusted with a rig presumably think that all the amps and cabs for sale here have been abused to within an inch of their lives and are therefore not worth buying?
Some may well have been... and you have to be just as careful when buying second hand.
19.
Deal with all what? Re-tweaking a few eq knobs?
Some idiot who hasn't brought kit to perform on, who I don't know from Adam. It is simple as far as I am concerned. If they are on our bill and I don't want them in my set-up space, it might be easier if they used a common rig..and it might have to be mine...it isn't likely to be theirs.... But if it is our bill, and we haven't arrived at this arranagement, then they will have to place their kit around mine and get it off the stage before we go on. If they haven't got any gear, then they aren't likely to be a band we would invite anyway. If it is their bill...I'll make my own arrangements and get my gear on and off if necc. If the stage isn't big enough for all this... we aren't playing the gig anyway, I very much doubt.
20. But do you want to have to deal with all that...? If people want to borrow my gear, then they can pay a hire fee and leave a deposit. But, then I can't be bothered with all that either, so avoid at all costs.
21. Never heard of this..and can't for the life of me work out why anyone would want to handicap their playing like this. Not a bass player that I would want to hear or see, tbh..
22. I'd look at a 610. SWR do one, but they might have some miles on them. I've seen Matamp and Berg F/S here recently.
23. This build had better be good, after all this :lol; :lol;
