That's what a tone knob is for.

Flats and playing near the neck as suggested will get you half way there. Are your pickups alnico? If not, that's what you require to get you the other half. 😃

P bass + flats + tube amp will get you that tone. 😃

Perfect. In which case all the replies here will help. My advice, just don't buy cheap strings, the strings are the biggest factor of your sound (other than your amp), so never go cheap!

Before 2014 MIM quality control was a bit hit and miss. It may be a great bass, it may be a good bass, it may be a bad bass. You won't know without trying it.

Pretty sure they do top coats also, wrap it or put print onto the bass or guitar and add a few clear coats. Not rocket science, probably something a computer programmer could do!?! 🤣 Most cheap basses which have a sunburst finish have a photo print top and bottom layer with clear coat over it. So if it can be on cheap basses, sure it can be done cheaply.

Ask a car body shop, they often do wraps and will be fairly priced.
