  1. Not much to see I’m afraid, it’s a bit of a mess in there (but the copper shielding is another nice touch).
  2. Been after a reasonably priced 5 string for a week or so, after trawling through the super information highway I came across this in the sale at Andertons. Now I love a white bass so I couldn’t resist. The specs are almost up there with some higher end instruments (3-D bridge, just-a-nut, wenge fretboard, straplocks!), the only things I thought about upgrading were the pickups or the preamp or both at a later date. This model (RB Streamer LX 5) is listed as having passive MEC Dynamic Correction J pups, with an active 2 band EQ (not listed as an MEC unit, so guessing it’s some generic cheaper preamp). So, when I opened the gig bag (included) the first thing I noticed was the pickups. They don’t have the same branding as the DC pups, and are noticeably different in that respect (see pics). A quick look at the MEC pickups website https://www.mec-pickups.de/en/bass-pickups/j-style tells me that the pups on my bass are active, with metal covers. It’s actually quite difficult to tell if these are metal or plastic, but there are no passive variants on the website that look like these. Anyway, I’m wondering if I’ve got more of a bargain than I first thought (price was reduced by £150 anyway). Have a look at the pictures, see what you all think. 😊
  3. Sound before looks IMO. Using the correct gear will get you somewhere close to the sonics but you’d be hard pushed to get it sounding exactly like the band in question due to stuff like technique (it’s all in the fingers after all…) 😊 I saw a Who tribute years ago and while the sound was excellent, only two members (Townshend and Moon) dressed the part. The Daltrey and Enwistle imitators were dressed much the same as any other early to mid twenties guys - the bassist in particular wore a scally cagoule, jeans and trainers, but nailed The Ox’s playing style. The drummer was the ghost of Moon, incredible.
  4. Here is my Epi Rumblekat in Wine Red, nearly new, only bought new back in March and gigged a handful of times. Short scale (30.5in), mahogany neck with rosewood board, chambered mahogany body, 2 x mini humbuckers (that apparently are in the same position as Paul McCartney’s famous Hofner bass), VVT controls, side-mounted jack. In superb condition, not a mark on it, unless you count the slightly scuffed bridge pin. Currently strung with Rotosound rounds but I have a set of used Ernie Ball flats that I will chuck in as well. Located on the Isle of Wight, but can meet at any of our ferry ports (Portsmouth/Southampton/Lymington/Southsea). I have a box I can ship it in (will bubble wrap the hell out of it), will probably use Royal Mail as they seem to be the best of a bad bunch. £400 shipped.
  5. Spotted this earlier, seems like a bargain although I could’ve sworn they were far more expensive. I seem to recall Paz Lenchantin was involved with Luna some years ago… https://www.thomann.de/gb/luna_guitars_tattoo_electric_bass_34.htm?listPosition=0&type=manufacturer
  6. Come On Eileen - 42 years later and I still have no idea what the little curly haired fella is on about. Anything by: Scouting For Girls - how they managed to get a record deal with that utter drivel is beyond me. Lewis Capaldi - music to swing by your neck to. George Ezra - it appears that nursery rhymes set to beginner chord structures are popular with the kids these days. Radio gets turned (punched) off whenever any of these start playing.
  7. Are you building a collection? Only you made five other offers on five more basses last night. Or are you just hedging your bets?
  8. G&L Tribute Series JB jazz bass, listed as Lake Placid Blue but actually is more like a metallic ice blue - very nice. Hard rock maple neck, rosewood fretboard with block pearl inlays, G&L saddle-lock bridge which is magnificent and makes this bass sing. Controls are standard volume/volume/tone. I’ve played this on and off for around 18 months but haven’t touched it for a while now as I have other basses I use more often. There are a couple of tiny imperfections (very small dents in the paintwork but not through to the wood) which I have tried to photograph - one on the top horn and one by the control plate that were there when I bought it brand new. These are barely noticeable and obviously do not detract from its playability. Strung with a fresh set of Fender nickel-wounds 45-105. £290 collected or £320 shipped. Located on the Isle of Wight, but can meet at any of our ferry ports (Portsmouth/Southampton/Lymington/Southsea). I have a box I can ship it in (will bubble wrap the hell out of it), will probably use Royal Mail as they seem to be the best of a bad bunch.
  9. Tears Dry On Their Own - Amy Winehouse Roam - B-52s Smooth Operator - Sade Maria - Blondie 😎
  10. Got my first short scale yesterday. Fair to say I’m smitten. 😊

      Very nice!

  11. I used to swear by them. But the last two sets I bought were poor; set one were corroded near the ball end, with a dead E string, set two were a little better but again, the E string was noticeably duller sounding than the rest of the set. I moved over to Fenders.
  12. Why can’t I buy coloured pickup covers for a jazz bass, that aren’t black, white or cream?

Ooh fanx! Their site won’t load properly on my phone though, will have a look later. 👍🏻😊

  13. Would you be interested in a trade...?
  14. Oh man... too close to Christmas, and I've just spanked the credit card on a new amp...
  15. Oh stop! Can anyone smell GAS?
  16. Nah, they're not the same are they? The OG Gibbos were never PJ configurated. But that T bird is quite nice:)
  17. I don't like: Burst finishes 3-point bridges Active basses (except for Stingrays) Pointy basses (BC Rich in particular) Most of these horrible hand made things that are made out of cr@p like woodworm-riddled slabs. Pretentious nonsense.
  18. Very nice! Can't understand why Epiphone don't do a version of this, or a non-reverse Tbird...
  19. New combo purchased (GK MB410 II), had the 2 x 10 combo serviced, took it to a rehearsal on Wednesday and had it running for a couple of hours straight with no issues. Gigged it last night and the distortion issue came back again, so have spanked the credit card on the new unit - £699 from Polar Audio. Not bad considering Andertons list it for £1200... My 2 x10 ext cab is up for sale on BC if anyone is tempted, but I'm not sure what to do with the old combo. Maybe list it anyway and invite offers...
  20. Given that I don’t have funds for a new combo at the mo, I think I’m gonna have to go with a head to go with this cab for now, until I can squirrel away enough for a new rig. Any recommendations for a suitable head to match this cab welcomed… 😊
