Sky Arts ,Worlds greatest Basslines .28/11/25

I watched the lot yesterday. Really enjoyed it. There were appearances from other bassists that weren’t listed (Adrian Younge, Mark King were just two…) Could’ve done with a couple more episodes, hopefully we’ll get another series because they really barely scratched the surface… -

Having a show about great basslines, and what appears to be no mention of Paul McCartney as a talking head seems like a wasted opportunity. I’ll still watch though, if only to shake my head at the inevitable omissions. 😁 -
I love his playing too. You’re right - those first albums have some really interesting bass parts, particularly A-ha Shake Heartbreak and Because Of the Times. Great shout. 😎

Those albums with great bass performances that have gone un-noticed… ”God Shuffled His Feet” by Crash Test Dummies. Yes, maybe you can’t stand “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”, but Dan Roberts playing on this is album sublime - mostly fretless from what I can hear, high in the mix, and very tasteful indeed. Give it a listen. Carry on…. 😎

Back up for sale… 2023 RB Streamer LX5, carolena body, laminated maple neck, wenge fretboard, Just-a-nut, 3D bridge, active MEC pickups, 2 band active EQ, Warwick straplocks, Rockbag, truss rod tool. Superb bass, but not playing it much at all. £475 posted via Parcelforce tracked, or collection from the Isle of Wight from any of the ferry ports your side (Portsmouth/Southampton/Southsea/Lymington).

What’s the deal with these? They have a curved base rather than a flat one, in my experience all nut slots are cut flat, so has anyone used these and had to fettle either the nut or slot to get it to fit?

No spoilers! 😂😂

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

Dear lord, what have I done…? -
Hi folks, Any recommendations for fret polishing kits? I’ve just acquired a Highway One Jazz and the frets are, quite frankly, grim. That bloke Paul from Milehouse Studios (check out his YT channel, highly entertaining) would have a field day with this particular bass… What are you guys using…?

Sunburst on modern basses. It looks fine on instruments designed in the 50s/60s, but not on sleek instruments like Ibanez SRs for instance. Painting a Dingwall in sunburst is like dating Charlize Theron but making her dress in your nan’s clothes. -
Like the bass line i played in this video

Or Basschat without the “B”… -
***PRICE DROP NOW £1300*** 2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job. This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great. She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok. ***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added. Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)

I’ve been looking on Keisel’s website. Some VERY tasty options on their bass builder page… 😎
-
That’s nice. I don’t think I’ve heard of those Squiers before.
-
No, because I’ve struggled with it generally. I’ve always wanted one since I started playing, but the neck and weight of it has put me off. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely example, but I’m now at an age where I don’t really want to be fighting it for 2+ hours while gigging it.
-
Thinking of moving it on if anyone is interested…. 😂
-
Phew! To be fair I had no idea about these limited models or their price point. I kind of shrugged off the fact that it came with a soft case as I just assumed the previous owner preferred it over a hard case. One thing I will say about it is that it is heavy, (10lb) - it was listed as alder, but it’s heavier than any jazz bass I’ve owned. I’ve also replaced the pickup (weak G output, as per…) with a Nordstrand MM4.2.

I bought it used earlier this year from Bass Bros. Candy Apple Red, 2eq, soft case, 2010 model…: £1500 😬

I think I have one of these limited edition ones, and given what you’ve said about them, I may well have paid over the odds for it….🥺
