1. I'm finally down to 4 basses All 4 are Mexican. Only one is a proper Precision (a Sunburst Mike Dirnt, and I'm not keen on Sunburst ). My green, passive P/J has been with me 4 years, it is simply a superb, rare (only 6 green and 6 black made it to the UK, of 300 green and 200 black made), great playing, great sounding bass. AND I WAS RECENTLY LUCKY ENOUGH to get one of the 6 black ones and it's even better than the green one I guess the inevitable points are some Mex stuff is superb and we all like different stuff. Excellent backline helps as does a great bass set up.
2.
I agree it looks very odd, but perhaps there is a 2 pickup version to come? I get that it's Gibson meets Fender but why only Fender type body colours, this would look good with more of a Gibsonesque Tobacco Sunburst or may be a natural finish, assuming the wood is half way reasonable and not a lump of cardboard. White with a black scratch plate would be good too and probably more easily achieved.
A major point (to me) is that it is the single pup, with chrome cover, similar to what The Ox and others have used. SEE LINK in post # 21 There are plenty of two pick p TBirds around, even a few non reverse with 2 pups, but, outside of original, or custom luthier build, I have not seen an affordable single pick up job. Very niche, but I know a few folk like this DIFFERENT kind of bass.
3. Sadly it happens Hutton. I leave feedback but like you it's not always reciprocated. I used to get narked about it until I hit 3 pages of feedback .
4. For the normal single pup version of the American Sterling. Black/white/black. £15 posted in UK £12 collected from Wigan. Never opened, cheers, Karl.
5.
Yes, I appreciate that. You're right. It's good value for money. It's also I great breath of fresh air that its not yet another regurgitation of the P-bass look. Thanks for posting it. Sorry for posting the first post. I should have kept out. I apologise.
No you shouldn't, I shouldn't be such a grumbly, sarcastic, old git
6. Good job we're not all the same isn't it
7. I like the logo, imo it's a similar style to a few of the 70's Japanese logos. The scratchplate is very similar to the one on The Ox's original bass. For me, with the sunburst, I'd probably go gold 'plate. Might look ok with no 'plate. I think for £300, this is a great starting point for this kind of bass. I also think it helps that the original thought behind it was for the chap who wanted one to gig. The Cataldo's are excellent, but with that comes the price. I guess Lull, John Shuker etc would also sort you. Might be good anybody close to Wakefield, who is interested, having a word with Jow. Personally, I'm waiting for the result of Sea Foam Green
8.
If you read the wording, the basses are "designed in the UK" He's not a UK Luthier, he's buying them in from China or somwehere like that. Not that it's the end of the world, but you're getting what you pay for.
Yes, like many folk, I can read and I'm fully aware of that. He's getting them MADE to his spec in China as nothing similar was available in the UK without going custom or self build. No different to Whitley, Chowney, Konig and others. Or countless others with Japanese basses in the 70's. And at £300 it seems to me, you are getting a lot of niche market bass/hard case for the money. Lets say I wanted to build a Precision. £100 for a reasonable body. £200 for a good, professional spray. There's your £300 gone. Limited appeal bass, limited options BUT SOME may well be interested.
9. Nice to have all these ideas chaps, all the options are available from custom luthiers, usually starting at around £2k, rather than £300 This ones a bit similar and a bit more expensive, but sunburst again GIBSON THUNDERBIRD BASS - EX OASIS AND THE WHO - 1968 - ex JOHN ENTWISTLE | eBay
10. Irrespective of colours (at the moment) even on my crap computer, the bass sounds superb (to me) on that short demo video.
11.
Make a 34" version and I'm interested...
30" and 34" versions are both available. I have no vested interest in this, I just came across it somehow. I've long wanted a single (chrome covered) pup non reverse and without going custom or original, don't seem to be around. I just wanna get my Ox on Be interesting to see what neepheid and nancy would make of this. I just think it's great somebody has not been able to get a niche product and has done something about it. I'D LIKE TO ENCOURAGE HIM. Well done Jow
12. OK, not for everybody, but that pup and them looks . I even like the logo! Sorry, can't figure out how to get the photo on here but here's a link to homepage. Another respected English bassist who couldn't get what he wanted, so got them built for him, then made them available. I'm in discussions for Sea Foam Green (shocker! ). 13. IBTL. Tom, if you ever come across a Burgundy Mist Precision (Squire is fine)
14. That is one of the most stunning Jazzes I've ever seen
15. Any more for any more? I will need to make a decision by late tomorrow night
16. What a lovely bass Tom. Be even nicer with a gold scratchplate and cream pup covers Good job it looks like it's gone
17. Finally got to meet Andy after years of trading insults and info . Just as great a bloke, face to face. Immense knowledge and the bass I bought from him is a wonderful instrument. Thanks for everything Andy, doubt it will be the last time . Fully recommended by The Wigan Gargoyle.
18. Source: http://www.fendercus...ostmodern-bass/ ----- I'm not sure you could particularly refer to this as "contemporary"? I don't dislike it but £3149 is just so overpriced in my opinion. I actually can't believe that pricing.
I thought I was reading one of those poncey menus, reminded me ofThe Gosforth Park and Brown Ale Sorbet
19. I'm sure I read that, post Brexit, Warwick want payment up front from UK dealers, so I wouldn't be massively surprised if UK dealers just quietly let stocks sell through and then equally quietly forget about being dealers. I know I would if I were being dictated to like that.
20. Buyer backed out, no longer on hold. Cheers, Karl.
21. Thanks fellas. Fairly inevitably with me, it's looking academic, looks like the bass is on it's way tomorrow.
22.
Karl nice basses love the green one black one not foe me but I dont like to be the bearer of bad news but I think something or some one has taken a sh*t next to the Antuiga bass Oh its ok I looked again its a Rick lol
You're a very naughty boy
23. 1. He was online 10 mins before I posted, viewing "Basses for sale". 2. It's only 19 months since the last comment, don't exaggerate
24. Did this ever go Pete?
25. PM' s replied, thanks folks. Martyn, you know what to do EDIT. In some of the photos, strings/hardware look a little tarnished. They aren't (see photo #1). Just very strange light in Wigan yesterday. I blame upcoming zombie apocalypse.
