People think that your'e desperate to sell mate. Its a bargain right there. What i usually do is to get the person to bank transfer £50 for a hold. That sorts the men from the idiots !
Thanks Mike. I usually take a members word as his bond. Up until this year that had only backfired once. I always put something out at a price I think fair to both buyer and seller. Cash price wise, this is a bit of a bargain despite the couple of issues. The last two I can find on here were out at £1100 and £1150. No hurry to sell. Possibly giving it a whirl at rehearsal this Thurs, see how I get on with it stood up.
Karl, do you have any experience of the U shape on the 74 AVRI Jazz and how this might compare to yours profile wise (as I have one of these and like the feel)? Clearly width would be different but I'm not fussed about that.... I've also had a 51 CIJ Precision but didn't like that neck at all really. Thanks Steve
Sorry Steve I've not been lucky enough to try a U profile jazz. I've not had a '51 either as I just know those big necks are going to be no good to me. I have had a Blue Flower 54 RI. Lovely bass in many ways but the neck on that was huge as well. Much deeper back to front that this 58 RI. Which in turn is a bit deeper back to front, than the quite shallow AV57RI and Road Worn Precision. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Cheers, Karl. -

Zombie thread resurrection. Could one of you gents with the Hammers bass, measure your nut please A dispute needs fettling. Fender say 41.3mm I say cobblers, it's nearer 44.5mm
-
I was quoting from the Fender website - Are the details incorrect? 41.02mm
Nope, you are bang on right according to Fender spec. But I would bet their spec is wrong. Believe me dood, they have form . I'll seeif I can sweet talk an owner to measure one.

On Fri night this was put on hold for a member. He changed his mind yesterday. This morning it was put on hold for another member, who also changed his mind. Last Wed a certain tribute bass was put on hold for somebody on Facebook. He appears to have gone awol. Even my patience is wearing thin. Karl. -
Congrats! Jazz with P neck is my flavour. Unfortunately I'm still looking for the perfect combination of body and neck. My first bass, a Squier affinity jazz currently has a warmoth P neck on it but there is a huge gap between it and the body. I've had a squier P neck on it as well but the truss rod went on that. It's been on my list for about 10 years to get a nice Fender jazz and find a direct replacement P neck but there is always something in the way! Needless to say, I am incredibly jealous! Enjoy the bass, it looks stunning!
The Squiers are a slightly different neck pocket I think. Might be worth keeping an eye out for a cheap Mex jazz, the Warmoth should fit much more accurately. Then sell the Mex neck to recoup some funds.
A good time to ask as I'm researching P basses too! I know you've had a 62RI with a 42mm nut. I have one here that might go for the chop. I see the '63 & '58 P's are as you say, 7.25 on 44mm. The two basses on my radar are: Steve Harris P. 7.25" 41mm and the Mike Dirnt 9.5" at 40mm. The only thing is that both of these have fat necks that you might not like but I love the idea despite not having tried them myself! Oh wait! 70's P basses. The Nate Mendel is a 7.25 with a 40mm nut. - it's apparently based on his own 71 (??) P bass. - I'm also wondering if my rather awesome 'law-suit' is the same spec, but have to say, is a better bass than the Nate I played recently!
Dood, you might want to revisit the 'Arry nut width spec fella

CASH PRICE £850 COLLECTED WIGAN, £900 INC UK INSURED COURIER. One of these fellas. https://www.gak.co.u...CFQYSGwodioMP6w Got this last week at a great price (£820 but I drove to Scotland to collect). Unlike the AV 57 RI and the Road Worn 50's , this does not have a shallow back to front neck. GUTTED Not baseball bat D Tele type profile, but certainly a deeper C than the series before. By my eyes (NO guarantee ) 22 mm deep from board to back of neck at 1st fret, and 26 mm from board to back of neck at 12th fret. As a pose to a more normal reading of around 20 and 23 respectively. So fretting is hurting my hand a bit. ISSUES. 3 nasty dint's as per photos, plus some " certain light" surface scuffing. Both case locks are buggered, but it can be closed on the middle hasp thing. One screw missing from chrome pick up cover. GOOD BITS. Lacquered scratchplate. Sounds wonderful. 8 LBS ! Feedback linked below. Many thanks for looking, cheers, Karl. In fairness Chris, you are much more experienced with Ricks than I am, but, for me, the original core Rick sound was fingerstyle with flats. In my world, the 1st one I noticed to expand on that was Chris Squires, although I know he was only one of many experimenting. As I understand it, he used a guitar amp for "treble" pup, bass amp for "bass" pup. He really took it a long way from the core sound. Yet many folk call his sound The Rick Sound. Even the difference between pick and fingers is massive. And whats the matter with ergonomics? Don't you like wrist slashing binding and most of the chromework off a Cadillac Eldorado
-
That's the truth of it, there's tricks to getting one Ric sound for sure, for example Squire's, Maccas etc, but to get all of them, which all Rics can do because despite what people say, they are extremely versatile instruments, you'll need a Ric. IME there is no instrument that has quite such a unique set of tonal characteristics.
Exactly Chris They are daft versatile, which is why I always chuckle when I hear the phrase "Rick sound".
-
I love all this "Rick sound " stuff. Who's? Geddy, Squire, Lemmy, Entwistle, Burton, McCartney? They all use different amps, cabs, live effects, studio effects, strings, techiques etc. Live sound, throw an (undoubtedly excellent) engineer in to the mix ( ) I can get most P's to do a passable Rick sound IF SUCH A THING really exists.

The "S" versions are quite hard to find. They are going to be even harder as the importer of Rockinbetter has been told to "cease and desist". He's flogged his last remaining stock to several retailers in the UK, at cut prices. Presumably to get as much back as he can, quickly. Selector switch and jack socket are both just standard Switchcraft on mine, however if you have the two sockets on your bass, just ask on the FB page. Somebody will help you. On Facebook, you will see some little boxes at the top of the page. Hit the "start conversation" button and carry on. Don't be afraid of asking dumb questions, everybody does . Enjoy.
Somewhere - - within these pages, I thought - - a set of pickups was mentioned that was a lot cheaper than the Seymour Duncans, and which performed very well. Anyone able to tell which pickups these may have been? I trawled the thread without finding them myself. IMS they were 150 quid or Mercan bucks per set. The point here is my Rockinbetter wants two new pickups for its birthday, and as a proud dad, I wish to oblige. Though I seem to remember one the the original pickups in the Rockinbetter does not need being exchanged, and at any rate, I suppose the bridge pup placement on the Rockinbetter would ruin it for even an original Rickenbacker bridge pickup? If anyone has any advice, it's received with gratitude. On another note, the pickup switch doesn't work or one of the pickups doesn't. Any experience about this as to Rockinbetters? Would it often be a case of dismantling the switch and cleansing it, or would one normally exchange it? Or do experiences with Rockinbetters teach us that it's normally the pickup itself that is faulty? I can of course investigate everything, but a quick heads up might save me some time by starting with the most common source of error. Thanks for any info!
I had the selector switch issue with my Rockinbetter 4003s tribute. Replaced it with Switchcraft. Also jack socket replaced with Switchcraft. Personally, I find the "s" version of tributes and the real thing much easier to play fingerstyle. The Rockinbetter has a much more functional bridge than the real thing though! The contoured top is so much more forgiving on the wrist, than the binding, sharp slab top. The real 4004C11 is even easier for fingerstyle .
