Hello fellow bass players I played hundreds of gig from early 90's to 2001 but retired from bass playing. Recently I was coaxed into doing a gig at my company picnic. I played the following bass solo (re-recorded the next day since the camera at the company function did not pick up the solo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRIb4zQXM6Q Since it was the first time I had played in nearly a decade I decided to have a little fun. I'd love to hear from other bass players what they thought of my playing after a 9 year period of no playing. Criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance!
You didn't retire - you were just resting. Welome back to the low end - Love your Rik. Oggy
Cheers! Originally this tune was going to be about Desmond Dekker's dancing, but we are saving that one for later! Glad you like it Zak
Not to much later I hope, I'm not sure how long I have left . I was getting on when Mr Dekker was having his first hits . Keep at it Rood Boy. Oggy

Pretty Please - A Little Help Or Advice Would Really Be Appreciated Hi fellow Basschatters, I’m wanting to get a YouTube video together of our band! Problem is we don’t have any young / old / male / female enthusiastic friends to do the honours with a video camera. We're not looking for anything Hollywood style, just something that we can point venues at when they ask “You on YouTube then? Wanna see what you look like”. We have a web site and are on Lemonrock where we’ve posted some MP3’s and a few gig photos but It looks as though we’ll have to bite the bullet and get some video footage on YouTube to satisfy some of the prospects. I’m not asking for any freebees, I'm happy to pay to get something half decent done; so my question to you fellow Basschatters is: Are any of you guys or your mates or anyone you know into this sort of thing; can you help us? £££££££ We’re based in Hertfordshire (Watford area), hope someone in the Hertfordshire / London / Anywhereshire area can help us. Please drop me a PM or point me at someone via this thread. Thanks Chaps. Oggy You can see / hear what you might be letting yourself in for by having a look on either Our Web Site or Our Lemonrock Page EDIT 05/10/10 - Bold plea added to top of post
Stop talking about these basses!!!!! I want one so bad but I just can't afford it
Hi El Bajo, There are at least two BB414 Basses for sale in the 'Basses For Sale' section - at not bad prices. Just type 'Yamaha BB414' in the Search Box of Basses for Sale section. Not forgetting that I've also got a BB414 in Basses For Sale, only one month old, it's up for a ‘Swap or P/X’. Best of luck Oggy

Hi Bidd, I reckon you got your price spot on; I watched one of these got for £139.99 at the weekend on evilbay. I've also got one on the site as a P/X or Swap - looks like it'll be the evelbay though. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the build quality and available tones on these basses. All things being equal, you should get what you want for it - good luck with the sale bump. Is your Dad's camera charged yet? Just a though - the odd photo - of how it looks now - might help. Oggy
I love the PRS Tremonti SE but I don't think they do a low price point bass, I've never played one of their basses, they are pricey and they don't look like my type of thing. Sorry for the earlier joshing.
Hi Wayne, Never be sorry for 'joshing', I'm sure it helps the world turn - well that a few quid plus loads of music of course. Oggy
We were joking about sorry, The Burpster will be along soon, he is the authority on PRS basses, he will give you all the info you need.
Hi Wayne, I was at the rehearsal studio last night and one of the staff members was playing on his ‘PRS Tremonti SE’ six string thing so I had a little play on it, I have to say that it was a really nice (IMO) bit of kit. The fret board was nice and wide and not too thick, great action and the finish and hardware looked pretty robust, nice and light as well. I asked him about pricing and he told me you could pick up a really good second hand one for £200 - £300, he wasn’t telling porkies – I checked it out on evilbay this morning. I’m in the market for a Guitar at the moment and from my experience last night I wouldn’t turn my nose up to one of these. My thinking was – if PRS do a nice Guitar they might do a nice Bass – I was a bit surprised at the initial reaction here. It would be interesting to hear from site members their thoughts and experiences, if any, of PRS Bass guitars though. Chances are I’d not be after a PRS Bass; unless they make a Short or Medium Scale one, hard to find any information on them though. Oggy

Hi Basschatters, PRS Bass Guitars Availability / Prices / Thoughts on them?? Anyone know of UK suppliers websites where I can have a look at what PRS offer in the line of Basses? I’ve not come across anyone using a PRS Bass, I’m just curious about them having seen and played a wee bit on a PRS Tremonti SE last night (Forgive me father for I have sinned - it had 6 teeny weenie strings on it and curiosity got the better of me). FS: CORT C4 LTD - WENGE NECK, MIGHTY MITE PUPS
Oggy replied to theforevertest's topic in Basses For Sale
Hi Mark, This is one seriously nice Bass. I had the C4P until quite recently; unfortunately I had to pass it on as the finger joints continue to develop arthritis so I’ve migrated to short scale. I could never get my head around why Cort Basses are not more popular with Bass players in general. I really like the maple top on this one, if the neck is as good as the C4P I bet she plays beautifully. Just a wee bump for a great Bass, great price – best of luck with the sale. Oggy -

ALL GONE - THE DEED IS DONE, I NOW HAVE A YAMAHA BB414, THAT'S FAR TO BIG FOR ME AND I WANT TO SWAP FOR A (DARE I UTTER THE WORDS) ELECTRIC GUITAR - Aggggggggggg. Hi Basschatters, I’m gutted . I bought this 'Pictures and Description' from Derren two week ago on this site and I’m really happy with her; IMO it fits right in with the ‘Blues’ look sounds great and plays really well. I really like her but my ‘so called’ band mates just don’t like her :snob: , it’s not the sound – they can’t fault that – it’s the look, they keep telling me it would be more suited to a ‘middle of the road’ band. I’ve argued the point but they just won’t be moved and insist that I use either the Mustang or my Gibson SG. I was going to keep her and use her at home but that seems a bit of a waste so I’m offering her up as a swap or P/X for a bass that is Short Scale and has more of a ‘Blues, Blues/Rock’ look or I’d be happy to P/X or swap for an electric guitar (I want to do a bit of rhythm guitar playing in a side project). I hope you don’t mind Derren that I’ve used your for sale thread above, I’ve not taken any photos of my own, your photos and description are just right. Oggy PS. I'm away over this weekend until Sunday evening, if anyone drops me a PM or any thread comment, I won't be able to post answers until Sunday evening or Monday morning. EDIT: 20/09/2010 - ON HOLD EDIT: 21/09/2010 - SWAPPED FOR YAMAHA BB414 WITH 'bassamp' AKA Paul, a fine fellow to deal with - lookout for his BIG dog .

ELECTRICS AND BASS TO TRADE FOR YOUR BASS!
Oggy replied to CHARLIE-BROWNE's topic in Basses For Sale
Hi all further to a post a while ago I have been nosing around bass listings / specs for a few weeks now - as a ladeee electric guitar player I fancy a whirl on the 4 stringer but with small hands and a crocked shoulder from skiing and silly non muso pastimes I need something with a skinny neck and lightish - so i am thinking Jazz bass / aerodyne etc I am liking white basses and block inlays & definitely only 4 string beyond that as a newby like electrics I will no doubt try trade and try again until i find something that suits! If you are interested I have for trade: Gibson Les Paul studio with ebony fingerboard 1990 in alpine white (naturally!) 1970s Ovation Preacher solid body Gibson Nighthawk Goldtop 1996- only 30 made apparently! Vigier strat (cream/white - again!) Fender P bass USA with racing stripe and maple board - I havent seen ones with a racing stripe so think they are rare-ish - any info welcome! - all I know is I think the Pbass neck is a bit chunky for me and its heavy-ish (prob normal weight but remember i usually play an 8lb electric !) Anyway - over to the experts! thanks
Hi Charlie Brown, Have you considered a Fender Mustang? If your used to playing a standard electric you might just take to the short scale (30") a lot easier plus they really don't weigh much at all, my one is 8.2 lbs (bathroom scales). You could pick up a Mustang on evelbay or ask the Basschatters if they have one to swap / sell. The American Mustang might be a tad lighter than the Japanese ones as they have a contoured body, just a guess. I think youl'' pay a good bit more for an American Mustang but honestly the CIJ Mustangs are excellent. This is my Mustang after it had a re-furb: Oggies Baby Not for sale though, she's a keeper. I've had my one for several months now and love the slim neck and the P thump with flat wounds, with round wounds and the EQ on most modern amps I'm pretty sure you could get the sounds you want. FS/ Fender Custom Shop 64 Jazz Bass Relic Limited Edition
Oggy replied to wolldav's topic in Basses For Sale
looks nice, how did you appraise it? I see them on ebay (in the US) not selling at US $2500. It's a terrible market now with the recession though; I just sold a Lakland Skyline DJ5 with Nordstrand pickups for a "whopping" $900... (just over half what I put into it)
Think the recession‘s bad now . You ain’t seen nothin’ yet – I dread to think how it’s going to pan out over the next couple of years. I’ve gotta stop reading the Daily Mail . Good luck with the sale, I just wish I could manage one of these 34” beauties. Oggy (AKA – Eternal Optamist) -
I've just bought the Short Scale, semi acoustic Tanglewood TEB12-STR from Derren - I'm well pleased with it, It'll make a nice addition to my other shorties. The Bass arrived when Derren said it would complete with spare strings, Comfort Strapp and strap locks - all well packed and protected. His communication (PM's) is great; what can I say except - 'Buy with confidence from Derren'. Thanks Derren I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun playing her. Oggy
