2. Only 2 ohm heads I know are older Peavey models. Other than that, why not buy a Stereo head and add another cab and run 4? Be balanced then.
  3.
What do the speakers sound like? Do they distort or fart out?
So far I havn't magaed to get my Trace speakers to move that bad, and I hammered 600 watts into them (They are rated to handle up to 800 watts)...they still didn't fart! Oh and they are 4x10" too. So what else goes into the equation other than power handling here? A Markbass 4x10" made me very scared though as they looked like they were gonna shoot out, and these cabs cost twice as much as my Trace. This confuses me so...
  4.
There are usually 2 reasons for being sacked...from a band made up of mature, professionally minded musicians IMO. I was 'sacked' from a band for not being committed enough, and that was after I turned a gig down at the Canadian Grand Prix, because I'd already committed to the gigs with the band that ultimately sacked me. I was definately musically up to the job, having been told so by the band after I learnt the entire set before the first audition/rehearsal...I noticed the replacement didn't do that...And even after they ignored me at gigs, and onstage because I couldn't afford to drive an extra hundred miles collecting PA, aswell as storing it, and taking responsibility for its replacement if it was stolen (it wasn't insured - they refused to do this), I still refused to act unprofessionally, being nothing but polite, helpful, arriving and setting up on time and keeping out of the way of any trouble they wanted to cause. The truth is that some people aren't mature - they're no more mature than the average 2 year old...They are cowards. Just to be clear, this was a band in which my opinion had no effect - it wasn't a democracy where people can suggest things. There were no band meetings and the name of the band was the singer/guitarist's name. But you are right about it building up for a while...I've learnt my lesson and I've moved onto bigger and better things because of it!
+1 Again, bands with friends are far better.

  6. Looks very similar to the "Twanger PraxAx".
  7.
Tell me about it - I guess there aren't as many DT fans or people interested in six string basses as I thought there would be. If it doesn't sell then it's not a problem; I can just leave it in it's case for a bit longer to gain some more value.
There are (me), they just cannot afford.
  8.
In all fairness you could get a raised fret on any instrument, no matter what the quality (I had to rectify one on my Fodera recently). You were probably unlucky to find a duffer amongst the current crop of US instruments IMO, and I would be surprised if it left the factory that way. In terms of neck shape and tone I'm not crazy about them FWIW, but having sold quite a few over the years my impression is that the quality is generally very good for the price point - certainly much more consistent than it has been for some time. The factory setups don't tend to do them any favours, but generally you can get them playing very nicely with relatively little fuss. If you like the idea of a USA Fender, then I wouldn't let the one bad experience put you off.
True but I think for the price I'd like the 9th fret on the G-string to actually make a note...not just fret out. That's not caused by humidity, the actual fret was prouder on the wire, not the tang lifted from the board.
  9. I think I saw the bassist from Misery Signals play one of these...I thought it uber odd that a metalcore band would play one but then again, just cause of the band he's in doesn't mean he's not into his basses hardcore like... That said his playing was tasty. Anyways, unusual bass...not seen many of these around man.

    Ramps
Oddly enough I want a ramp to sit at the end of my fingerboard. I find the gap at the end of the neck too high when popping the strings so would like to reduce the height with a small ramp (there's no pickguard on the bass). Has anybody else tried this? I have a feeling it will look a bit weird, but I feel I need to do something about it on this particular instrument.
Yes, people do this. You can have a small ramp about the height of a pickguard or higher if need be fitted just after the neck. I've got a book on slap bass, Ultimate Slap Bass it's called and the guy shows a "Slap ramp" in there. Put basically, if you want to put anything on your bass that you feel will help your playing, do so. It's your bass.
  11.
Yeah great point, Japanese Fenders are excellent basses and usually top quality. If you must have Fender, try and source a Jap one. You'll save some money over a US one and the quality should be excellent.
LOL you can tell this forum is UK based...Try saying that over on an American one...They go ape! Everything has to be American...
  12.
The best bass players I've heard and worked with never have the most expensive high-end gear - they have solid, reliable gear. Peavey amps are workhorses IMO and any bass player who has a reputation as a solid, reliable workhorse has certainly got my respect.
You speak sense...I mean, I'm not a hired gun at the moment but I'm still a working class muso, working my ass off in the day and musician elsewhere. I have my Trace Elliot cab, what I always wanted in a cab, but the head...well I was lucky with the cab and so I don't think right now I should go too far with spending on the head right now so, as this has 700 watts max...putting 500 watts into 8 ohms (even the SD800 only puts 450 watts) I have more than enough head room to play with. Generic sound? Well...many heads I've used that are sposed to be colourless have worked for me. As long as the tone doesn't break up when pushed 1/2 way I'm fine...that's all I want...and volume. Plus I'd love to hear how these sound paired with a Trace cab. For £330 - £350 I guess you can't loose.
  13.
I can thank a SH1TTY minimum wage job for my injury too .
+1 Where my RSI came from.
  14.
I've got the older Max 700 head, which is good for what it is. Very loud, but very plain-sounding. No character. If your bass sounds right for the job, and the cab fits well with the head, you'll have no trouble. Built like a brick sh*thouse. My old Max 450 fell out of a moving car. 1 small dent on a corner. I fired it up a few minutes later... no problems at all. Worked like a dream until I sold it to get the 700. The new Tour series looks to have a few improvements/additions, and a massive drop in weight. The Max 700 weighs about 25 kg. The Tour 700 weighs about 10 or 11 kg. If you like it plain and unexciting, go for it!
I always hear Peavey users swear by them...can't be bad then. I do like the fact that it has 700 watts to play with, which I need more than colourful EQ. There are standalone EQ's that you can buy...but watts are a little different. Being a rack head is good too because as said before, I can case it and case my compressor with it and voila, easier to carry around. Well I found one online for £330 new. The Tour series sounds to be the newer MAX series as the numbers are the same. I was gonna get some higher end gear but as always theres a block...I was lucky with my cab but this head sounds like it will do what I want. *sigh* I guess I'll never have gear to match my playing but...does it really matter? Well I think it can;t hurt to look at getting one...I'll think about it but it's better than what I am with at the moment. 700 watts from 300 is a big jump in head room.
  15.
Worth looking into. I've played through the tour 400 and was very impressed with the sound and features. Not exactly the most hi-fi sounding amp ever, but for the money/power/features... certainly worth a look. Have you seen the Ashdown LG1000?
Yeah...I'm afriad I don't work too well with Ashdown gear unfortunatly...Don't know why...Same with Ampeg. I was hoping to save for some high end gear but...well I've seen some good players use these and I guess bass player magazine giving it an award is uplifting. But then, middle of the read gear is better than beginner. My cab is perfect...I just need a better head. I didn't imagine buying a Peavey but when push comes to the shove...Still I did say I don't care about names no more. Wattage does not mean volume I know but that's a fair deal of head room.

    Ramps
Hey, I've made a few ramps for my own basses and friends. I'm hooked on the things. Not fitted one to my jazz bass yet as the scratchplate proved a bit awkward. I play mostly 6 string so it's no loss. I made my ramps from African ebony, it has a really nice grain and once burnished, it looks sleek. Takes a while to shape it using sand paper though, Gary Willis recommends using Pine molding on his site. Just make sure you sand whichever wood you go for, then use wire wool to smooth it off. Helps keep splinters out of the equation! Keep the ramp curved with the radius of your fingerboard as it'll help keep the distance between the ramp and strings the same, giving it a much more consistant feel. I'd shape the ramp by hand as it's easier to make fine adjustments to it, I'm pretty hopeless with powertools though... If you varnish your ramp, that'll feel like shifting on a varnished neck, it gets a bit sticky. I recommend you keep a wood surface to the ramp as it'll let your fingers move across it with a lot less resistance. Again, make sure it's had wire wool used to smooth it off, and even wash the piece of wood to get any traces of wire wool and sawdust off. You don't want to be inhaling any of that stuff!
I'm guessing oil is not out of the question as a finish then?
  17. Erm people, I think the fact that he put up a leftie bass may be he is a leftie...most of those suggested are RH only.
  18. OK things amp wise are not going to plan...My funds are limited and my first head just will NOT work in a band situation...I've tired and it's not a good sound. I bought a Trace Elliot 1048H from lushuk here for a quality price so my cab is sorted as this is what I was after...with ideas of a head to match...ONly problemo is my funds are cut big time and...so is time! We've been getting so much feedback at Quad studio's that we are going to gig very soon instead of writing even more material so I need to get a decent head FAST! I have been using one of thier Markbass SD800 heads with my cab and they are ACE! But the price is too much for me. Wattage is a need here, being up against 2 all valve driven de-tuned guitars, headroom is a given. I was looking into a Trace Elliot AH600-7 but I won't reach the right ammount of dosh and I do not wanna be on stage farting out some nasty sound with my current head. I've seen a few bands bassists of similar role to mine use these and cut through the mix like mad with a clean tone, all using them with various cabs. Now I feel as these a re not too high priced I could look into one? 500 watts @ 8 ohms and 700 @ 4 ohms is plentiful but how are they? I mean...they only cost £400 new...I've used the older series Peavey's int he past and they were LOUD but they were USA made. The 9-band EQ and contour shaping will do fine for me...The contour looks like a Pre-shape concept to me. The Markbass also had one with a different name. So my question is, at a pinch should I look into one? The fact that they are rack is good as I can case it with my compressor...that's a bonus the Trace doesn't have. Plus, as clarity is a must over tone in a head at the moment, even if it will do "for now" that's fine by me. I can't wait to get gigging again...it's gonna be crazy! Kinda ironic that my Trace cab may be paired with a Peavey head Thoughts?
  19.
The idea is that nothing is really stopping you from doing it already so what would be the point of Alex printing out iron-on logos and selling them to customers ? I agree with S.P, proper t-shirt made with high quality prints.
By the looks on stock take these cabs sell like hot cakes so some T-shirts to spread the name more can't hurt.
  20.
I've ended up being disappointed by the two pickup variants. The neck pickup lacks authority and it feels like its just not translating all of what the string is doing (presumably this would change with the addition of a healthy dollop of low-mids). I'd place money on the same spec pickup being used in both bridge and neck positions. I think the colouring of the Markbass combo would help the stingray sound a lot fatter that it might though other set ups.
A Markbass head can make anything gold in my short exp. with em...even plugged into crap cabs!
  21. I have used BTB's constantly for over a year now...different model but still, one of them is natural...no problems as of yet. Built well... in fact I pulled it appart when I was re-stringing as I wanted to oil the neck but work on cleaning the body as well...even the neck join was properly sanded! You usually find bits of wood crap there...not with Ibanez. I'd imagine the SR, which has been going on a lot longer, will stand up to anything. ALthough it has a much thinner neck that your Warwicks.
  22.
Hi as any 1 hered of this bass? it s/hand at a online shop, they say its a 450 but I have tried google etc & no rbx 450? Have they got the wrong model etc Thanks http://www.musicswopshop.com.au/SwoppyCate...me=new+arrivals
No that is correct. The 450 was discontinued though I'm sure...Looks good though! Nowerdays there's the RBX470...although I think that went too...
  23.
GAS! I think there's a huge variety of options available to bass players and we're always thinking "what if..." e.g. what if it had 5/6/7 strings, what if the pickups were different, what if it had a 35" scale, what if it had fanned frets, what if it had lightwave pickups etc etc.
+1! Hell yeah on that! Most of my gear I love but have always be a "What if..." guy...like a band member said, I've bought so many now I have too many options for "What if...!"......Even now I'm enjoying my Jazz and chasing a Fender but I always get the "What if..." on a Stingray or G&L...Sucks..... Guitarists just think: Single coil or humbucker Tremelo or hardtail Floating, non floating or floyd Rose / Edge etc... We have too much: Scale Pickups Strings String spacing Frets Headstock Balance Weight Active Passive Fretted Fretless Fanned frets Fret Groove Bridge Ramp Finger / thumb rest Mute ...the list goes on
  24.
My Jazz
LOL! Do all your basses come with checkerboard as standard? That's some rig though.
