yeah I've seen this video before, made me laugh
LOL like with all English / British companies, always as much with the comedy as the real hardware. I love how he walks in the test room and walks out with just the neck...Just does it so poncy it's well funny...haha this is what some folk do in thier spare time.
 2. If only it was 5-string I'd have bought all these parts already! Well...the body and Pre-amp anyways...OH SUIT YOU!!!
 3.
If you see your doctor/practice nurse, you could ask them to use some medical superglue to seal your finger up. Then cover it best you can to prevent the cut being ripped open by playing again. You might have to put something more substantial than liquid skin on though so how about a couple of band aids, some micropore tape or insulation tape?
Medical superglue all the way!
 4.
Fosters -> Screen on the anyone got the horn bit. Fantastic video. Think I'll be buying a Trace Elliot head then.
You seen how they tested the new head? They dropped it over 5 stories and it still worked...then they went higher, dropped it...the fan went dodge but other than that it STILL worked haha! Indeed, using Markbass myself until now (I still use the head for now) Trace Elliot weighs a TONNE but I love the tone! I think of it this way...it's heavy...but once it's down it's down...then I can play. Plus the 1048H cab is over 25kg (about 35KG)...to me that means 2 people, never carry alone! I'd certainly NOT want a combo though...they are heavy at the best of times without being green and mean adding more weight. *sigh* but such a little price to pay...I'll never go back.
 5. I do like them ATK's! In RH for me of course. Why did they ditch the 24 fret 2 pickup for the 22 fret single though? I'd like to find the 24 fret dual pickup model one day...be very useful.
 6.
Headstock looks very Ibanez. Nice looking bass tho. Bet in 5-10 years they may be 5X the price, if they make some rep that is.
LOL! Swap it for 2-over-3 config and it's almost EXACTLY the same as my BTB 5-string. OK now I got GAS...these looks so sweet...but like many I've tried they might have shoddy fretwork... I hope not, we need an English version of SX.
 7. I'm not sure...I'd be a bit standoffish...You could buy the very Laney model I started with for less than that and have a decent powered head and cab for that.
 8.
Yes, the neck is very love/hate I love the feel of it, but really gassing for a more vintage sounding bass
Seems to be a trend at the moment which is why P and J basses are selling so well. As I say to many, if you'd make it grow another string I'd have been interested...4's have little use to me these days. But like you I also GAS for the vintage models these days.
 9.
Resist - seems like a bargain - someone snap it up quick! Is this a custom paintjob?
Has to be. I've had the 5-string version for years now and they only came in Silver, black or red.
 10. Bought an AWESOME Trace Elliot new series 1048H 4x10" cab. Was exactly what I was after for less than half rrp...how could you argue? Went to view the cab, fully plugged in, no secrets and was shown every little ding right down to the last 1mm of the cab haha! We also had a chat about things Trace Elliot...haters be damned I'm using Markbass gear now and it's being replaced with Trace!!! My original and best tone houses here. No secrets held, it was a great sounding cab in excellent condish (it will have a few more dings in it's life...though I hope not too many ) and so money was exchanged and I walked away a VERY happy bassist. What great timing. Buy from lushuk with confidence. Sells it as it is, hides no secrets and is a down to earth guy...even lets you play his bass.
 11.
Brought my Trace cab from me, great no fuss deal and a great guy! Thanks
The amp worked, it was what I wanted BAD, you got the cash. Was a change from Leicester...although we went 1 mile too far missing the pub you were at and had to turn round...oh man...
 12. I read somewhere once that GP heads have a grounding issue that makes the amp shut down. Might be worth looking into. Failing that contact Trace Elliot. Despite what people say about them being "peavey" these days (which has hurt them none) they handle everything very well... The same guy is in charge of Trace Elliot development as was the day they were bought out so no doubt they can help even now.
 13. I did this on my old Yamaha RBX375 cause the bridge plate was like a 1/4 thick plus TALL SADDLES! I used a business card from my work exaclty as you did. Also may I add, a shim can be applied to change the action allong the neck. You can shim the other way to make the strings closer at the nut too. But at the possition you did you could also do this if you find the action past the 12 fret is a bit too high compared to the nut...in other words, it can even the action out. Great guide though...I hear so many ask about how to shim a neck on many forums, often cause they fitted a BadAss bridge (do these really raide the action that bad? mines fine). Now they may read here.
 14.
Hi Frank! I think what happens is that your ears (or in my case, ear!) gets used to hearing a certain sound - I call it the `trace syndrome'. Reason is, you get accustomed to what appears to be a regular, `normal' bass amp sound; then something new comes onto the market (back in 86 it was a Trace rig for me) which suddenly `ups' the standard - it makes everything else sound dull or whatever. I got used to the Trace sound, then a mate of mine bought an SWR which then made the Trace sound dull! Went SWR!!! Subsequently, I heard an EBS rig which made the SWR sound old hat, (went EBS!) then Markbass came along which has, for me (note that!) given me the closest thing in terms of the sound I'd always searched for. I've tried other high end gear which is comparable in tone terms but there's something about the Mark stuff which just does it for me. Having suffered a major ear op this year, it does make you realise how delicate your hearing is and that everyone's hearing will be different - the clean, pure sound of the Mark gear does help me now that I'm much more aware of the effects of volume can have on one's hearing (even though my ear problem was nothing to do with high pressure levels, so my consultant says) - I find the onstage volume can be much lower without any compromise on clarity.
LOL! In my case it was from Markbass to Trace Elliot. Although I DO love the SD800 head...but the cabs don't do it for me.
 15.
Thanks for the bump MB1! Not getting much interest in this, which is surprising as its an awful lot of bass - especially compared to the price of a new Status. Just to stress - don't get hung up on the amp / combo p/ex thing, I'm happy to take reasonable offers on the bass outright. I've a couple of months before the theatre gigs and if push comes to shove I can get a cheap combo option or squeeze my GK / EPI set up in if I have to. I think this will be my last bump for a while. If nowt doing I'll probably keep it and maybe try again later in the year. Cheers John
A lot of high end basses seem to not be shifting at the mo...I think it's just times are getting harsher right now.
 16. Not the Warwick I'm after but at this price who could complain!!! I like that rest BTW.
 17.
I want to replace me gear with Trace Elliot.
Go for it! I am finally that step closer to my 8 year long dream of having a Trace Elliot rig ever since I found that they deliver a sound unlike any other...And through those years every time, again and again, I'd come accross a Trace Elliot rig...plug in...there it is AGAIN! That sound! Now I have an awesome cab thanks to Lushuk here for less than half rrp price...and a head soon to follow. So yeah, go for it. Even with this Markbass craze that's going on (and I use an SD800 head at the mo), Trace Elliot still kicks ass...and your back if you lift it too much!
 18.
It's a diffusion range - most usually produced under license by a third-party manufacturer. The most common reason for the arrangement is financial exploitation of copyrights, designs and patents. So it's exactly what Squier is to Fender, what OLP is to MusicMan, what Tribute is to G&L, etc. It's got nothing to do with end-user price point per se.
More like Tribute to G&L than those others as Rockbass's are not cheap in comparison to Squier and OLP. They are more middle of the road than beginner.
 19. My dad = 80's Metal and Rock My mum = 60's music, Soul, Funk etc. My friends and band members (well my friends ARE my band members but...)... We all find new music from Modern Metal to music from Europe / Asia etc... So many people do...Even computer games! Listen to the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion soundtrack...Now that's some quality music. I'm a bassist with so many inspirations my playing style is hard to say...I play metal a lot these days but not metal bass if you get me... I have only my parents and friends to thank.
 20. I've got so many I cannot think of one!
 21.
If its all about a certain sound that a certain bass player had on a certain album then forget about it. Personally Rickenbackers sound hee haw like Chris Squire, Stingrays sound nothing like stingrays and so on. I can get my Wamoth bass to sound more like a Rick than I could get my Rick to sound like a Rick. I've been everywhere from A to Z (excluding Alembic and Zon ) and its all about trying different stuff. Nothing is as it seems.
+1 I've use a bass the same as a certain artist and even got thier EQ settings on a similar amp and it didn't sound the same. The tone is in yourself as well and, if replying on a recording, it could be engineered to sound that way. Now if they played in front of you...That would be interesting. But that's what I like about Stu Hamm...his sound is so natural when he plays with just him, his bass and an amp for an interview. Still can't get that tone though! I wanna do a Project Stringray build so I got an OLP to try so I can see if it works with me beofre even thinking about the real deal.
 22.
The best flst tone i can get is to plug it direct into the miing desk on a flat channel (of course if youhave the PA to cope with the bass) and have a small combo jutto monitor throgh. Of course thats not ideal for everyone. I have been doing this for years and to be honest paying £1000 on a 200w combo seems a huge wast of money to me when you can have up to 1000w of real clout. I really dont hear a massive difference in a £350 warwick or old 2nd hand combo or a 1000 pound one, Yesterday i plugged into a £300 ashdown and i thought it was great to monitor with, with a great compressor as well.MArk bass to this tiny combo for like £500 and its terrible! how can they justify it! Cheaper combos lack that tiny bit more high/low end clarity, but out front i dont think the punters would really notice. I buy a bass for its natural tone, and anything that will change that is a no no for me. Anyways just my view on this take. GP.
I was talking about the head, the cabs ain;t worth it to me. Plus combo's? Yetch! Markbass SD800 has more than enough power for the money. It almost has 1000watts of clout @ 800 watts and if that's not enough, the SD1200 has 1200watts...and it's a mono head! I picture the tone I like and get it. At the mo my Jazz gets me there better with the Markbass. I've seen many players use extensive EQ and I don't see why not.
