1. yowza!! judging by the volume that my 1210 pumped out these thing are probably capable of destroying foundations!
2. ok, Portrait and Lullabay now up to listen to!
3. yeah i checked out the original files i uploaded and there's nothing on them either.... strange. will re-do them and get them uploaded ASAP while i'm doing that, what do you think of Calomindia? it's a piece i wrote around 5 years ago for my GCSE's.
4. lurvly, and your right, thats a tasty bit of ash! another Shuker shaping up
5. looking great!
6. Lydia is a great vocalist and a damn fine bassist to boot. regularly pop her video's on when i'm having a surf. oh, and i've never noticed any of the other threads about her either. must pay more attention.
7. thanks! glad you like them. BTW are the last 2 songs working for you?
8.
I got mine brand new for £200. I always feel a bit satisfied when I see people paying £300+ for a used one .
i got mine brand new for £75, i'd probably feel pretty satified to if i hadn't sold it for £75. i kick myself on an almost daily basis
9.
This is definitely 'The One'
i'll remember you said that i found my 'One' 4 years ago. barely GAS'd for another bass since for those who don't know what it is.... nah, i'm sure you all do...
10. wow. there's not a lot of basses i'd consider to be 'ugly'. but that makes me feel sick! and to top it off, look at the price!!!
11. for solo stuff, i'm very messy, i know i certainly have the skills to play pieces cleanly. but the bottom line is i don't practice the stuff enough (one of the things i'll be working on this year), there's a few pieces that i can't play even half as good as i could a few years ago, even though my overall playing has improved. for band stuff, in a rehersal or recording setting i think i'm very clean, i've been focusing on my technique here for the last couple of years, and have achieved a level that i'm very happy with. very soft picking, excelent damping, good punctuation and pretty much flawless left hand technique for the pieces we play in the band (this is no doubt helped by my simpling down of basslines i write). but take it into a live setting and it usually goes out the window as i'm often (but not always) very active when i play. so the soft right hand goes out the window as does the accuracy of the left. it's not bad by any means, just not on the same level as in the rehearsal room. but i'm not bothered as the difference is small enough as makes no difference to anyone in the audience (who's not a bassist ).
12.
What is "better gear"?
i'd hazzard a guess that he means, better than gear that doesn't sound as good? it doesn't have to be more expensive to sound better. but when companies know there stuff generally sounds better than the competition they tend to charge more. doesn't make it a rule though
I sound good through what some people would describe as "crap gear"!
so do i. but i sound even better through better equipment
13. lovely collection, dig 'em all!
14.
that's one thing that proper annoys me about a lot of gigs is the vocals are loads louder then the instruments and it takes a lot away from the song imo.
wow, where are these gigs and can my band play them?? we have the exact opposite problem at gigs.
15. wow, it's already happening, and in a 'love' thread? bye bye *waves goodbye to thread*
16. i can't comment properly as i haven't heard his recent stuff. but he's spent a lot of time being a melodic, upfront player. maby he's just decided to try his hand at being a laid back, sit on the groove type player?
17.
Jazz's deformed cousin?
ha ha! no, Howards reply to that. something like "the serebral musicality of jazz, mixed with the visceral groove of funk" (forgive the guessed words, and the obviously guessed spellings of said words)
18. now this is more like it i love jazz too! in particular, the double whammy of JAZZ FUNK! (there's a lovely Mighty Boosh quote on the genre that i'd put in here, if i could remember (and spell!) it properly)
19.
The Man.
uh.... i don't see a bass....
20. i think an audience really can appreciate a quality sound. one of the compliments we often get (when we get it right!) is how they really like the fact that our sound is clean and clear, and they really seem to like it! though wether or not this is down to good equipment or just being able to use what you've got is the ultimate debate
21. there's been a few Shukers up on the bay in the years. never recal seeing one sell on there though... :/
22. i use the neck pickup almost exclusivly when i play. and i'm pretty weird. dunno if it applies to you though... :/
23. i agree too, which is why i designed my own
24. http://www.myspace.com/bigtombass just made a new myspace to put up some recording i've been doing today on the Shuker. All examples are in passive mode, front pickup solo'd, straight into desk with no eq or compression. (so it's a little on the quiet side) please add me and let me know what you think!
