1. yep, thats tony levin
2. i used to own one. you can get a great variety of warm, tighty, punchy, dirty and hard sounds etc etc. as far as i'm aware the only difference to the pedal is the addition of a mid control. it's an item i really regret selling. it was part of my first forray into decent amps and i just didn't realise what i had, top piece of kit!
3. lovely stuff! i really like the lamitate lines from the back, like an optical illusion!
4. it's been over half an hour. now i know you must be enjoying playing it, but come on!!
5. my akai deep impact. not only because i really REALLY want it back. but because i sold it for £75 literally weeks before the price skyrocketed...
6. same as, EA were extremely helpfull. and mines 2nd hand too
7. a club contacted us saying 'if you and 2 other bands of your choice can pull a crowd, you can play here' we asked them what they pay and they said 'depending on the crowd you pull, anything from nothing to 50 quid' £50 between three bands for a sellout night?? no thankyou sir!
8. don't really know if they're right for the sound, but i use schroeder and glock cabs with very good results in my funk band. and yeah, cracking price on the glock stuff on ebay, if i had made it home in time.... but anyway..
9. lovely setup there!
10. bootyfull! welcome to the forum
11. i still don't see where anyones claimed its a new technique??
12. "Still looking at this and I just noticed it's not a new technique" "This thread has been confusing me a little, because this "new technique" look a lot like the way I've been playing for 20 years now." must have missed something, who says it's a new technique?
13. i'd love to try one of those
14. i don't think there's any shops in Wales that stock a range of high-end, or or little known bass amps makes. and i live in the far left hand corner. so like you i've never had the ability to try-before-buy, and all my amp purchases have been blind* on every occasion i've tried to build up as big a picture as possible on the properties. and to be honest, every single time the cab or amp has performed and sounded exactly as i have expected them. i think the trick is; ignore the 'i think (insert name) is the best around' and the like. focus on people who say things like 'i like (insert name) because' make yourself a checklist (punch, mid scoop, sparkle, clean, rich, deep etc.) and keep an eye out for when people mention these things in relation to a particular brand/model. soon enough you'll see that there are a few options that seem to tick all the boxes (as you've already noticed with the epi) once you've got down to a handfull of choices, start searching for any direct comparisons between cabs (this shouldn't be too hard if the equipment is similar as there will bound to be a gear nut somewhere whos had both), and talk to people directly who own the equipment, ie pm them asking a couple of specific question. in my experience as long as your polite and don't go on for too long, people are more than happy to talk about the equipment they own! as long as you put time, thought and effort into it. and don't just talk to 2 people who say 'i think (insert name) are the mutts nutts' and go on that. you should be happy with the choice you come to. *which so have have included Trace, Peavey, Sansamp, Glockenklang, Schroeder and Euphonic Audio.
15. i think the RIM headstocks look great, but not so keen on ones without the middle stripe. to much space for my taste.
16.
just for clarity, ring finger on top of little finger does not represent double bass fingering, ring and little finger together on the string does. I would support the latter, and don't think placing fingers on top of one another is a very healthy habit. I do try to say each to his own but I have been teaching for 15 years so I do have a bit of experience to speak from.
yes sorry, should have been clearer. i didn't mean literally ring finger on top of pinky, just running behind (but slightly higher) for support. which is the way i was shown when i had 2 or 3 double bass lessons around 6/7 years ago.
17. looking great!
18. yep, just release pressure slightly when you was the note to die.
19. fret with index and pinky, use your ring finger on top of the pinky to help stop it getting tired (double bass style). if this is still knackering your hand it might be worth doing some fretting excercises to build strengh
20. long shot, but do you still have that dented Schroeder 10" driver kicking about? if you do, i can probably afford it now
21. your build diaries are really interesting! and very very different to everything else out there. keep it up, and i look forward to seeing this finished!
22. luvleh
23. funny, i stopped using my iamp350 around a year ago because it developed the same problem! i don't have a bass xciter btw
