1. That's probably a kid's double bass. The scale length is around 37''-38'', according to the seller's measurements. "Normal" 3/4 size DB usually are 42''-43'' in scale length. You can probably play it, but it will feel quite different from a regular grown person DB
2. First gig in 9 months for us, due to singer going on maternity leave, and tot he process of replacing our previous drummer. Post-wedding party at the Traquair village hall, in the Borders not far from Peebles. Lovely little venue, with a sizeable stage and good acoustics. The crowd was also very enthusiastic, danced all night to everything we played. Loved it with the electric bass, but the DB had sound problems of its own. Couldn't get it loud enough on stage, and never had enough time to sort the sound out properly before we had to start. Methinks it's time for a simpler solution - who needs faithful reproduction of the acoustic sound anyway?
3. Congratulations! Auguri e figli maschi, as we used to say back in the motherland
4. Yep, but not very often. I used to go to a newly open practice studio where the people who specced the kit had no idea that bass amps are different from guitar ones, so they bought bass and guitar amps with the same wattage. Didn't hear a thing all night. Never went again.
5. Phil Jones briefcase for quieter gigs or with good PA, or the suitcase with extension cab for louder ones. I just like the natural transparent tone so much I have sold practically all my other amps and use PJB for both electric and double bass
6.
That's what I'm planning , have it on top of the PA Sub facing myself , It's one of the few foot prints that will sit on the PA subs , I'll have the bass rolled off as only need it to hear top End that I can't clearly hear what is coming out of the PA .
Are you sure it won't fall off the sub? I have had plenty of bad experiences with stuff on top of speakers... The tone of the briefcase is not particularly bassy and definitely not boomy, especially not close to the amp. You should be fine with fairly plain eq settings.
7. Bump! Also, I'm happy to ship at buyer's expenses
8. Keep it raised off the floor, or somehow angle it towards your head and you'll get plenty monitoring. It is happy to be run at full or near full volume, so don;t be shy with it!
9. 34 inches scale, weighs exactly 8 lbs, or 3.6 kgs. There is some neck dive, as the body is quite light. It balances pretty comfortably when I play it with a normal strap.
10. SOLD Early 80s bass guitar, branded Kay (nice brass TRC), made in Korea by Cort, so nothing to do with the american Kay of the 60s. Neck thru construction, PJ pickup configuration, white pickups and skunk stripes for that far eastern look of the late 70s'/early 80s. Plays well, quite bright and slightly metallic sound. Good condition, no major scratches or dings or any other kind of damage. Not messed with, all original as far as I can tell. I have more pictures if anyone wants more detail. Straight sale or trade for something interesting. Based in Edinburgh. Will ship at cost. £120
11. I have used John Wilkinson, and so has my tutor. My needs were simple (general setup, string height adjustment, pin replacement), but he delivered and at a reasonable price. Phone: 01316643119 Mobile: 07751805914
12. Sold Sold Sold Barefaced compact, 2nd gen, with roqsolid cover. Black grille. Bought it off a fellow basschatter a couple of years ago, it rarely left the house apart from one gig and a couple of practice sessions. Very good conditions, lack of use dictates sale (i play more double bass these days, and bought a pjb rig). £300
13. SOLD Aguilar Tone Hammer 350 amp head for sale. Bought it less than two years ago from the bass shop in camden town, used it maybe 10 times, including one gig and maybe three practice sessions. Practically new, no scratches or marks of any kind. Still has the manuals and other papers, including the aguilar sticker! £300
14. You don't have to give up DB to play black sabbath: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC1TkAV7iNk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oudsVWj9TjY
15.
That's a pretty bass razze, lovely.
I think the lighting and the juxtaposition to floral shirts makes it look more interesting than it actually is. But thanks!
16. Cue the theme tune to hawaii five-o It was the Edinburgh Festival, so it's ok
17.
If the album mix is anything to go but there was no bass in this album
I was about to say that the tab book might as well be just blank pages... I heard live versions and other mixes where you could hear a lot of rather interesting bass lines.
18. somebody that i used to know - Gotye Never was a dancefloor emptied as quickly as the one in the venue we were playing when we started playing this. And it's utter sh!7e to play. What were we thinking...
19. Tickets to see Iron Maiden feature quite prominently in Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus. Have a good version of that:
20.
Sounds like our bands play similar stuff. When somebody asks you; "What sort of band are you?", what do you say?
I say that we play covers of modern songs in a jazz/swing sauce. And that we are not very loud and we have trumpet and double bass. Sold.
21. Seriously, my band started getting loads more gigs once we dropped the overall volume, I started playing double bass as well as electric, and started doing more jazzy/swingy/folky stuff. We don't call ourselves anything like acoustic, but I can say that we do jazzy/swingy/folky covers...
22. A band with a majority of acoustic instruments (including a stripped down drumkit), not exercising SPL worthy of Motorhead can call itself acoustic. Especially if at least two band members play while sitting down.
23. Try bringing a double bass to the gig, and suddenly you get more attention than you may want...
