1. All of the above, also try the DreadnoughtRock in Bathgate
2. The more I read about it, the more I live the Krivo pickup. Now, to get one in the uk...
3. Excellent transaction with Mark - he inquired about my effect pedal, we agreed on price, he paid promptly and communicated safe arrival of the delivery. What more can one ask of a buyer!
4. I love to play live, in front of people. I love to see them dance and sing along to our tunes. I can't do that from the privacy of my own home. I've been in bands all my playing "career", and I have had to adjust to the other people in the band, or have them to adjust to me. I've been in bands with a clear and authoritative leader, i've been in bands with a perceived democratic leadership, i've been in bands where everybody argued and fought all the time, and in others where nothing was ever discussed. I loved them all.
5. I intend to keep my Headway band pickup on, and use the magnetic for gigs where the on stage volume and monitors placement makes life too difficult. I might consider blending them at some point, but I prefer simple solutions!
6. So a few with Schallers, a few with Kent Armstrong, any other ones to consider? There are about a million different piezo options, i'm surprised there's only two options for magnetic
7. I want to buy and install a magnetic pickup for my bass, but i've seen very little choice. Apart from the Schallers and Krivo, what else do people use and recommend? I've heard of Kent Armstrong, any further suggestions? Ease of installation is very important, I am not going to drill holes in my fingerboard, or have anyone do it for me! Looking forward to bask in the wisdom of the Hive Mind of Basschat
8. 4Sound is a fairly large guitar shop with a good selection of basses. Its main shop is in central Copenhagen, and they might do rentals. They're open until 6 i think.
9. I've found the Band pickup from Headway to be really good and simple to use. It is especially good for me since my bass doesn't have good bridge wing slots (the pointy ones instead of flat, slot ones)
10. Nobody in my family is significantly musical at all (myself included ). Luckily they were supportive of me taking up the bass as a hobby as a young teenager. My mom bought me my first bass and amp for my 16th birthday, followed by a better one for my 18th. She is surprised by quite happy that i'm still doing it in my 40s
11. It could be that some of the caps in the preamp has dried out, or otherwise expired. You might be able to get a replacement pre amp from a parts bass quite cheaply, and swaps the pres. I always used the pre on the thunder i used to have, mainly leaving a little bit counter-clockwise of the notch to give it a conrolled bass boost. In its last incarnation, I had it strung with think flats, and played raggae and dub with it. The pre really made a difference there
12. If you switch on the active preamp, and turn up all the way the bass boost, the signal may get too hot for your amp. It is a seriously powerful preamp
13.
Maybe you should come and guest vox for us
I don't think you want to be anywhere near a microphone
14. Of course, if any of you can sing in italian, I've got plenty suggestions that will please most fans
15. French and italians fans only really sing along to the respective anthems. No notable songs have been picked up as favourites, although Volare is not a bad shout. Whenever we did 6N gigs, we did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v98HEQvtpgo . It went down a storm with the visiting french fans
16. I've found a set of late 80s floral shirts in the back of my old wardrobe at my parents' house. Here they are in a pre-gig shot
17.
Yet another noob alert. I got myself one of these infernal contraptions on a total whim a couple of weeks ago. How long before I stop feeling like this?
When you stop trying to hold the bass steady with your left hand, and let the body extension bracket (the bit that sticks our of the side) take the strain. Hold the Stagg up at arm's length with your left arm, and then let it recline into you, until it rests against your lower belly/hip area. That should help relieve the stress on the arm.
18.
This sort of thing?
You're not wearing road leathers underneath that - you should!
19. I think it's a very viable option, and I do something like that when we play with the "good PA" (personal foldback monitor with individual mix for me). Half the time we play smaller venues where that doesn't work, or we have to go through the house PA. In these cases out comes one of my amps (almost invariably the PJB briefcase)
20. I use a Phil Jones briefcase, and it's great, especially for the money it costs 2nd hand. People also use stuff like AER, acoustic image, schertler and other super transparent amps, designed for acoustic instruments.
21.
We were recently shopping about fr a new car and noticed that most/many new cars do not have folding passenger seats. Assume H&S stuff. We have a saloon (A3) and the neck of my DB has to slide between the front seats. I got some funny looks fro salesmen when the first question concerned my DB but lets face it ...it is the most important thing about a car ...assuming that it moves
I picked a 1 series over a 2 series because of the DB fitting issue. And the neck slides between the front seats as well, makes a comfortable enough armrest in the nice padded case
22. I managed to fit my DB, a PJB briefcase amp, a large bag of leads, three mic stands, and two passengers in my 1 series BMW. Not recommended for a long trip.
23. Steve bought my K&K Bass Max double bass pickup, perfect transaction with no fuss and no hassle. True gentleman.
