I've just spent half an hour working out if I can afford this, and I probably can...if I don't want to eat next month it's a real toss up between eating and buying this bass, seriously...
Eating is overrated, stock up on pasta and deal with it
The only way you will be able to sort this is by removing the frets and having the finger board planed straight, then refretted and levelled. Sorry.
I guess that is made a lot easier by the fact that it's fretless.

I know it's not my place to tell you want to do, but it seems a bit radical to no longer play a bass because of whatever happened between you and the builder. I understand that you don't want to be associated with Ken Smith anymore for whatever reasons. But if the basses are as nice as you say they are, then I reckon neither of you are really benefiting from you selling them. He's losing an endorsement, and you're losing out on two very nice basses right? /opinion (I don't know what happened on the Ken smith forums, so my opinion could be totally wrong) Good luck with the sale!

I did a gig last night with my Spector Euro. It was a pretty short set, 6 songs: Holy Diver, Nothing Else Matters, 2 originals, Down with the sickness and Take the Power back. There were 3 other bands playing with us, and I can safely say that the Spector killed all the other basses in terms of tone (The other guys had some nice gear too, a USA jazz and a Warwick $$) We didn't get too long to soundcheck and couldn't get a very mellow tone to do our acoustic original and Nothing else Matters, but it cut through 2 heavy distorted guitars amazingly. It was a fun gig, my first gig at a real venue actually. (Carling Academy 2 Sheffield) We even managed to get circle pits going during our set, and a mosh going though one of the other band's songs (An indie band!)

Reason for selling: It's a bit too big for me as a combo, I'm moving to a more portable combo or a smaller and lighter head/cab configuration. It was recently repaired for a heater power supply fault, now fully functioning obviously (Probably a psychological thing, but I reckon it sounds slightly better than before) It's a great sounding amp, both for cleans and hi-gain metal stuff. I've done a few practises and gigs with this amp with no problems, it's very loud even through one 12" speaker Some specs ripped off the Ashdown site: * Power Output (RMS) 40W into 4, 8 or 16 Ohms * Speaker Configuration 1 x 12" * Effects Send Impedance 4.7k Ohms, Level Nominal 0dBu * Effects Return Impedance 50k Ohms, Level 0dBu adjustable * Speaker Emulated Line Output * Power Requirement Impedance 4.7k Ohms, Level Nominal 0dBu * 4 x 12AX7 with DC heaters for low noise * 4 x EL84 fixed bias * 80 Watts at rated supply voltage * A few DSP effects - delays, chorus, flange It comes with the 4 way footswitch (Channel select, Channel 2 boost, Volume 1/2, and Effects on/off) Looking for around £200 collected from Sheffield (Open to offers obviously) References, iTrader on sevenstring.org, joseph_walker on Ebay. Thanks for reading guys.

Rex Brown has, IMHO, one of the best metal bass tones ever. Spector 4tw!
Thought it was about time I added some pics of the beast I acquired in the Reverb sale 2 months ago....it's not possible to have too much Spector porn anyway.
Did that come stock with the gold knobs? Mine has those cheap plastic ones.

I bet that rig puts the 60w Ashdown guitar amp next to it to shame
In YOUR opinion I think it ain't bad for a year 2008 thrash album!
I didn't mean the actual music and songwriting, I agree with you there - I like the songs. I am referring to the way the album sounds itself - the ridiculous compression and the clipping on a lot of parts.

A wide and thick leather strap is good.

Check out the new Metallica album Made with millions or dollars of gear, and it still sounds like sh*t. (I love Metallica, but the production on Death Magnetic is terrible)

Doug at Blackmachine uses (the non stripy variety)ebony tops on his guitars: No paint/stain and only oil finishes I think Or African Blackwood maybe?

This is a great deal, someone needs to buy this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spector-Euro-LX-EX-B...id=p3286.c0.m14

"Popla Burl" is clearly the gangsta version of Poplar......
-
The one on here is dontcarebear's his has a lot of figuring on the upper horn, the one on the bay doesn't. And it's Burl anyway, not Spalted Maple

I can't remember who the manufacturer was, but a guy on TB did a blind AB test with a cheap kettle lead and a $100+ specially designed audio power lead, and apparently there was some difference.
-
I vote you drill some holes in the back and put some very bright LEDs in. I know a guy with the same bass actually, he even gigs with it. doesn't sound too bad actually.
-
It's not really my type of music, but I can imagine people will like it. The basslines are also pretty cool, not just hammering root notes. Stupid question: How do I vote? Even stupider question: Is that one of those cool model lightsabres you have in your display picture? (You know, the full sized ones that even light up and make noises)

We did our demos with EZdrummer and the DFH expansion, But that was pretty easy since our guitarist (who writes all the songs) does it in Guitar Pro, so we had all the drums on midi anyway. Have a listen here if you want, they could do with a little tweaking, since some of the fills sounds a little robotic. We play metal though, and I know for a fact that sampled drums (at least the bass drum) is used in metal double bass, for consistency. Meshuggah did a whole album using the DFH samples, and it sounds real enough.
