I've been trying to sell my friends Tokai acoustic for him, I did some calculations. the £1.30 listing fee is reasonable enough. Then I started looking at final value fees. £2 and then 4.5%, doesn't seem so bad on paper does it? Then I get out the calculator and it comes out to close to £20, F***!!!!!! I know the new fees are old news, but this is the first time I've tried to sell something since then. And now they want to ramp up the fees even more?!?!? I hate to imagine what Paypal will charge nowadays, last time I checked it was 3.5% or something. (Good thing it's cash on collection only though) I get the impression now that my friend might get more money trading it into a guitar shop or something! /rant

Would it be possible to rewire it so the pickups are blended before they go into the preamp, so you only use one pickup input on the preamp, and then the volume for that would become the master volume, and you just disconnect the other volume knob, and replace it with that blend knob?
Haha! Well given that I've not played live anywhere for over a year I think any sort of "rig" is overkill - just going down to an Ashdown 50W valve geetar amp, which (braces for abuse) handles my bassing needs very well!
Is it a Fallen Angel? I've got one of them, and I use it for recording quite a lot actually, since my full rig doesn't fit into my room.
We would like to invite everyone who has posted a comment here to a real conversation regarding the issues they have raised. Our opening hours are 10am - 7pm monday to saturday and 11am - 5pm on sunday. We will be happy to dicuss these matters with you all and explain in detail the reasoning behind each of our policies. We are sorry to see a small proportion of our 200,000 plus customers each year feel they have received bad customer service, we welcome all feedback both negative and positive. Yours sincerely, The Bass Cellar.
This is a little late, but I can't resist (Before you read this, please note that I do not mean to offend anybody while I am voicing my opinion. If you feel offended, you have misunderstood my post.) How is a "real conversation" different to an online one for this purpose? I don't know the figures, but I suspect a very large proportion of guitar/bass sales take place over the internet. I think it would be far more practical for everyone to voice their varied opinions all in one place, if ease-of-interaction is important to you. Also, everyone who is interested, but is perhaps too far away, can then find out the reasoning behind your policies. I also find that news (especially bad new) spreads fast on the internet, faster than through word-of-mouth or even guitar magazines. So this "Small proportion" of customers could quite possibly have a huge effect.
are any of the Rebops 5 strings?
Yes, it's at the Birmingham one. (I think) I can't quite remember actually, but I know the two Euro LX4s are at Preston.
-
dilemma no. 2: I've managed to track down some more "Reverb" Spectors, a few LX4s and a few Rebops. To further compound this, I've also come into possession of a rather large amount of money, basically exactly enough for a LX4. must......resist........
If there was a place in the Czech Republic that was already producing graphite composite parts for automotive manufacturers then it might be worth looking at.
I wonder what Peavey did with their graphite necked basses, didn't they just do one model? I wonder if they subcontracted as well, I can't imagine they'd add special equipment to their factory just for one line of basses.
Thanks! ^_^ Took ages to paint but I think it was worth it!
Paint what? It's all white isn't it? Your room is far neater than mine will ever be though.
+1 Wizard Guitars had a shop near Electro in Doncaster (I think it might have closed down - f*cking hope so) - what a bunch of tossers! Many years ago, I asked one of the greaseball ponytailed brothers if he ever took in any interesting stuff in part ex (to me anyway!) such as Wals, JayDees etc. He said `I would'nt even consider it - waste of time'. Fine! At the time, they had around 4 basses in stock! I should have known better!
The Welsh guy is at the Sheffield store now. He seems to dislike various brands, such as Peavey and Ashdown and refuse to stock them, or even talk about them. Supposedly he doesn't like the owners, but I think it's probably the distributors that don't like him!

The worse experience(s) I've ever had with a guitar shop is Wizard Guitars in Sheffield, the worst guitar shop I've ever been to, and it's not even on Denmark Street! #1 So I was calling up guitar shops In my area to see if they sold the Ibanez S series guitars. I call up Wizard Guitars After a lengthy conversation about how they can order stuff in, I ask for a price, he says this: " we don't gives quotes to people who have looked at prices on the internet. because they just want to try our guitars and order them for £50 cheaper off the internet because they are not set up." I can understand his frustration, as they are a small shop, but I don't think being rude to your potential customers is a great start. #2 And the one I visited a while back wouldn't let me try out a pedal for more than 5 mins. I assumed that he was just busy at that particular time. So I asked politely if/when it would be possible to try it out for longer, maybe when they were less busy. And the guy just said "were always busy". Though I doubt that's true seeing as I was the only person in the shop at that time. So I tried out the pedal, told him I didn't like it(since he said it only takes 5 mins to decided if you like a pedal or not) and then he suddenly changes his tone and starts trying to advertise all the other pedals in the shop to me. #3 The guy wouldn't let me try out their overpriced 70s Thunderbird, because I said I was only considering it and not set on buying it. So I go to some other shops and play various Guitars, basses and amps worth over twice as much as the T-bird without a problem. #4 They make ridiculous amounts off accessories, a pack of D'addario guitar strings for £7.50!??! The owner also tried to explain to me how a set of chrome pickup covers are worth £60 Strangely enough, one of the best experiences I've had with a guitar shop is Sound Control. They don't mind what you want to try, and I've had pretty lengthy conversations with them about gear. They're not all particularly knowledgeable, but I usually know the specs of stuff I want to buy.
My old laney combo was very nice. But it was an SS.
Yeah, I have a little 30w practise combo too, It's holding up pretty well to all the abuse. I've never played anything from Laney bigger than a 60w Linebacker though.

I watched the video that Ed Friedland did, sounded very impressive. I still can't get past the strange colour names. Why have Black and Grey when you can have "Thumper", "Domino" and "XXX"?

I played a 4 string H-H Bongo a few days ago, Great playing, looking and sounding bass. The only thing I don't really like about them is the painted necks.
It's not excessive.... it's called Spector GAS and I'm its biggest victim! lol! Join me won't you?! No Schaller pins on my ReBop?! Ah well, I'm sure at the price I paid for it my budget can stretch to a pack of new Schallers...
It's got some big standard pins, they may the Schaller hardware but they don't look like the locks I've got on my Euro or my Fender. Like the one in this picture: If I can find a job, I will own at least one Spector LX4 in Natural, and possibly another LX5, I'd have to buy a guitar rack stand so all my basses and guitars fit against one wall.
-
I think you're supposed to get the bit of the Schaller locks that attach to the strap too. I got them. He did say that they didn't keep them on the basses because people steal them thoigh. However, I don't think you get them on Rebops. I noticed that Cetera's Rebop 4 (when I was repacking it) that it just has ordinary strap buttons. I want a LX4 or Rebop, but 2 Spectors within 2 weeks is a little excessive for me

This reminds me of a drummer joke. What does a drum solo and premature ejaculation have in common? You can tell it's coming but you can't do anything about it!
-
Yeah, it's a "Wilkinson 4+1" The D string is secured at the string tree and tunes from the bridge. That bass should be getting converted back to a 4 string soon though, since I've got the Spector 5 now.

You can use leather dye. There are some tutorials here http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/sevenstri...board-care.html

I didn't know he was still doing this. I saw an ad for it a while back in Bassplayer, but I thought he'd give up after some disgruntled former Hartke employee or customer signs his number up to a gay dating service or something, or repeatedly called him when he was sleeping I think it's a genuinely good idea though, I was just skeptical that it would ever work.

Is that a signed picture of Lucy Pinder?
