2. Thanks To Ian (Rushbo) I am now in posession of the baton. The gig will be at the Golden Eagle in Chester city centre this Thursday 28th March , I know there are a fair few local BCers, so who wants to take it on . shout up , and hopefully we can do the swap on the evening .
3.
Stick with it Lurks...! I'd personally make a decision as to which is strongest - the vocal or the instrumentation, then re-write/re-work the other to fit. These monthly challenges have certainly helped me to keep things simple and avoid doing too much at once - which I used to be very guilty of in the past, resulting in music that was often too 'busy' with everything fighting for space. The 'mute' button is always your friend in such instances! Trying muting a few tracks and see if helps breathe some life into it.
Cheers Skol I WILL have something up by the end of the day , I have recored some strings and aahs to guide the melody and I will print the lyrics , so it may end up a self build song in your own heads , with a deconstructed presentation I will alter the melody a touch to see if it helps Emmas vocal fit in and give it another go this afternoon , but I have had a listen to the other entries and they are top again , It kind of determined that my vocal wasn't up to it , anyway, onwards and upwards .
4.
Yay! Come and get it! Drop me a PM and I'll get the kettle on.
PM sent , just a weather issue that might cause an inconvenience , but will wait and see ,
5. In my band 3 of the guys write songs and I am learning , The call appears to be a combination of commmitment , it is great fun to try new (covered ) songs to see what works but we have a reference to relate to , original written songs need a whole new level of input that falls down if 1 can't commit to it , we play covers the term 'original' has also been covered , as a player does it really matter ? if you didn't write it does it it matter who did ? How many of Kit's songs did you write Nige ? or how many of your songs does Kit sing ? does it matter and is there a difference? at what point is a song original and who gets to claim that ? as Dr Dave said earlier, they play an arrangement of a song , the differential is very minimal to me, and is a purely an arbitrary definition
6. I bought a 'violin' type bass recently. mainly cos a) a hohner violin was my first bass it is really light weight and short scale that my 11 year old daughter could use it C) with a hollow body she could play it and hear it without amplification . she prefers my Spector legend 4 though I hope you get sorted soon .
7. I have fallen into a bad trap that I have made for myself , I have written and mostly recorded................ a song , the daughters vocal doesn't really fit , and mine is totally sh1te , so I am trying some last ditch salvage solutions. I am really struck by how much is involved in doing this sort of stuff , it has given me a whole new appreciation of composition, recording and musical presentation .
8. I cant see this sitting still , if there is no-one picking it up , I will come and get it on Sunday morning , I have a gig next Thursday that will be a craic , I will wait till Saturday to see if anyone else dibs in
9. That sounds like a blast , and it would appear you have knocked a bit of confidence into the first lot , well done
10. I really feel for you on this one , you are stressing over the order in which you play the stuff your band can play , and you have the rug pulled from under you by members of the band not having the confidence of playing it . really bad, performing is ALL about getting up and doing it , your standard is irelevant , you will improve you have to start somewhere, and if members of the band are not prepared to start , its finished. you however, have had a learning curve to be proud of , share it with people who appreciate it and aren't afraid to stand up and be counted .
11. Dive Kildorf * * My mate is called Dave Kilduff but our drummer was a londoner and when he said his name it sounded as above
12. To be honest I tend to take the praise or critique from most punters with a pinch of salt , but how I see it is that while they often say that the band were great , what they actually mean is that the band provided a great atmosphere for them to enjoy the evening, there are some who genuinely enjoy listening and there are some who are just arses.
13.
That sounds really cool! Look forward to seeing some pics of that.
Sure will , though we are having 'discussions' at the minute with regard the aesthetics v functionality arguement . I am sure that while a minimalist tidy and trendy look to the room will be superb , I don't think that it will lend itself to great room acoustics for accurate monitoring and neutral recording , but still , I might have to have a couple of boxes of trick foam in the garage to bring out when backs are turned
14. I like reverb so big roomy drums are ok by me
15. I am also lucky enough to have a music room , we are in the process of refurbishing it , we have bought a lot of brick faces and are 'tiling' a couple of walls to give it a blues club , cavern type feel , I will post some picks up when I get some work done
16. I stopped gigging when the band I was in lacked the collective enthusiasm to do so , I left that band , and found another , I need to go back to the other thread now
17. PARTY TIME we were booked by my best mates Mrs for his 50th and it was fantastic , his family are all big muso's and some play/gig and record so the pressure was on , but the night was superb , and with the promise of more parties it was a great night , an early finish of 11.15 meant that a bit of socialising after worked out well . we hope to organise a jam night for the next big birthday in the family , that will be the craic
18.
Heh, uploaded in around 15 mins on 40mb fibre - gave me just enough time to do the joint...
40mb fibre , I got my own advice wrong anyway , after roasting the joint , I turned to veg, fondled my spuds , and made a mess with the gravy
19.
As the mixes are going to be transcoded by soundcloud I have rendered at 48/24... the file size is 98meg- is that too big?
Mine was that sort of size , so just peel the spuds , do the veg, roast a joint ( a cut of meat of your choice ) serve with gravy , consume , and your upload should be done , or just sit and watch the rugby in slow motion , either is good
20. Weighed in, weighed in I used soundcloud set to private with an access list set up , it took a while to upload , but it seemed to work ok .
21. I hope to be in , I have the track laid down , lyrics ready ,melody close, just waiting on the daughter to fine tune and sing them , then put a few twiddly bits , and hey ho , send me the prize I have been spending FFFAAAAAAARRRRRR to much time reading books and working , Oh, and faffing around on the Mix comp entry I have the Reaper bug and am gonna wear the thing out
22. There must be someone in the W. midlands who can use it ?
23. Brilliant Si , I will get started on it as soon as I can .
24.
Well I feel better now! I do love to admire kit and also play daily - I think it was Gary Moore who said 'if you walk into a room where you keep your guitars and don't pick one up to play, then maybe it's not for you' - or something like that!
I am very lucky as I have a room that has space for my music stuff, we even had the lads double bass drummed pearl power kit at one point , good , but very noisey, times . I even played them (badly) for a while, but sh*t , we had a full band set up in the back room. you just have to enjoy it while you have the opportunity.
25. My old man would 'go off, pop' but he was an east end boy , and my rig is small and loud , and my neon bling has gone now , but it is ready to play with a flick of a couple of switches .
