  1. He always amazes me with his playing, note choices and groove. There is no flash (slap aside) until he pulls out the most incredible fills and they are so beautifully played. . Its just done with the most finesse and so for the music. I applauded this guy. imo.
  2. Whoops thanks for the heads up. Maybe im just being a fussy derrière. I think i will carry on and see how it goes. Thanks for all the wise words
  3. Im in a band with a couple of guys. The keys guy has departed a short while ago. The songs are funky rocky etc. The original songs are ok ish but don't blow me away. The singer has a voice that has no control and he's an average guitarist but he does teach guitar. Hes a singer song writer who has (imo) no idea how to play funk. He just doesn't have that feel to his playing. I suggested we try Vulfpeck's running away. What a great record.! He came to my house and it sounded ok. Then came the rehearsal. He suggested we down tune a semi tone to accommodate his voice. I kid you not he murdered it. Properly bad. The most shocking thing to me is that he couldn't hear it when I said it didn't sound good. Im not sure what chords he was playing. I know when music sounds good and that was not sounding good. The awkward thing is I tried to like it generally and I've been quite enthusiastic thinking the songs might get better, tighter etc and have been with them for a while. So to let them down coming up to the summer when they are booking events I will probably come across like a total wombler. I was so looking forward to playing live in the summer, but I just dont believe in the music. Maybe ive just answered my own conundrum.
  4. Thanks Lee.!! Looks great but I'm looking for an Aguilar 212. 😎
  5. Love this. Sampled by GangStarr.
  6. I acquired this instrument over the weekend and ive had a good play. Ive wanted one of these for quite a while and it doesn't disappoint. A small review... The bass has a swamp ash body with a fancy cherry burst quilt top with an insane birdseye maple fretboard. Early Bartolini pickups. There are some really nice details like sunken Hipshot tuners. The control cavity screws have brass ferrules to screw them in too. The fit of the neck and pickup routing is just beautifully done.. Everything is in order when it comes to fit and finish. These basses are well known for there necks, I will say its a little different from 55-02/01. A little slimmer profile wise... Its a quarter sawn neck (I have no idea what this means tbh) so feels a little different to any other Lakland 5 string neck ive played. Its an unfinished neck with a little oil maybe.? Graphite rods for stability. Im not sure how they have shaped this neck but seriously its THE best neck of any 5 string ive ever played. All the hype about Lakland USA necks are very true . You just don't notice your playing a 35" scale 5 string bass. Its just so easy to play. They have even angled the string retainer as to accommodate the break angle of the B string. Lakland back then didn't use Plek technology. All the fret work was done by hand and it feels hand made, not a sharp edge anywhere. When playing it every note sings. The sound is great, with a pretty straight forward preamp. Ive always loved the MM Jazz pickup combo, it has real bite to it. When you dig in it has that nasty jazz bass growl. Its a really versatile bass. Amazing B string. It has been said before, blah blah this bass is amazing blah blah. But hands down this is the best bass I've ever played. Its difficult to explain what makes a bass great. But it just all round feels and sounds amazing. There is a reason why these early or current USA 55's are held in such high regard imo. Its a very well made/designed focussed instrument. Anyway enough of me talking stinky poo. Here is some porno.
  7. As some may know I love soul and groove. This is soooo good from these gods of soul/groove music imo. This is basically my getting up and cleaning the whole house song.
  8. Im after a 212 cab to go with my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 and Lakland 5594. I used to have a an Aguilar GS212 that was amazing. So may look for one of those. Any other alternatives.? Cheers.

  11. Who is to say that different human ears dont perceive sound differently. If not, how are you going to prove it. ?
  12. Its just sublime and Steely Dan always take me by surprise no matter how many times I hear there albums .. Denny Dias/Elliot Randall on solo guitar, Chuck Rainey on bass, Bernard Purdie on drums. What a groove they lay down. 😮 imo.
  13. Was with my sister just coming into London and she puts this classic soul funk on from Maze . What a soul funk record it is. Robin Duhe's bass playing is just fantastic from start to finish.
  14. I watched this all the way through. Its just superb. Music that makes you dance. Of course Joes playing is such a joy to listen to, and just perfect groove playing.
  15. Can anyone recommend a longer allen key?. The keys i have dont reach the truss rod without hitting the fretboard design on this GB. Cheers.

  18. Ive owned and played many Skyline 55-02,s 44-06 s 55-01 s. They have all been superb. Never a bad Lakland have i played. The best by far was an Indonesian made 5502 Deluxe. What a bass. USA lakland electronics and pickups..
