The customshop' are a better pup than the USA's for sure..

A super low flat action on the TRB, glad you like it!!
  4. Not really a bass issue but here goes..I have an annoying buzz coming from my monitors when i play bass through them..Anyone know who might be able to look at them? There MAudio monitors and i dont want to send them back and all that hassle!! I play bass through them, so im not sure if this is the cause...i dont play loud at all, but im not sure if this can damage monitors?

This may be sacrlidge, but im thinking about (temporarily) swapping the neck from my 75 RI to the 62 RI...Im loving the Customshop pickups on the 62, but love the neck and FB on the 75.. My Q is, will the neck pocket fit..Also how will this affect the sound..the 62 being Rosewood and very trebbly.. and the 75 being maple...If the holes do not line up or(seeing as the 75 only has three holes) will i have to drill a pilot hole for the forth screw? Anything else to watch out for?? Thanks..

  8. Im thinking abput trying some EMG's i have in another bass, in my 75..Is there anything i should watch out for, putting Active pups in a passive bass..Im doing the soldering myself!!! Has anyone done this??

  10. Donalds 'Night Fly' Can anyone explain the bass notes in this song, in relation to the main chord progression.. I may be wrong but is Miller using Inversions alot...He seems to at the start of the song... Can anyone explain in simple talk?? I love Miller's playing in this by the way, its one of his best IMHO...... bloody awsome that guy is!!!!!!
  11. Three new additions to the collection..I can honestly say that all these basses are truelly greats... Stingray 5 I believe this to be the best mass produced 5 string on the market today..the best B string ive ever heard..Flawless construction..Solid..A real working pro's bass..I can see why Randy H Taylor plays one...I was lucky enough to buy this bass from Martthe Bass, who not only packed it well, but sent me a set of Slinkies and a kind letter. He was a pleasure to deal with!!! Everyone should try one of these basses.. Lakland 55-01 with Glockenklang pre, and Nordy PUPS I bought this bass from Platypus..Just awsome, it has wear on the upper finger b which i love, its been played this one..The tone is something special..just as good as the Sadowsky, but without the growl..I just LOVE playing it...a real quality active punch....im taking this to record with a funky house band in june..they love the tone.. Fender CIJ 62 RI withcustom shop PUPS.. This thing has the best unamplified tone ive ever heard...Just phenominal punch and growl..the funkiest, rudest bass i own...Very trebley, so i roll that off a tad and its perfect..I cant believe for the money you can buy a bass like this!!! In the right hands this bass could blow you away......To a funk gig, i would take this over the 75 MIA anytime... You know the rest...Fantastic basses..I can honestly say like my children (if i had any) i love them all the same..Apart from the Sadowsky,which stands out above everything..Roger and his team really do know how to make instruments..Im no luthier, but it seems they are so much further ahead then any other maker for the money of a Metro...Im sure Metros are in the reach of Alleva's, Celinders, Fodera's..for tone, build quality, and playability..Like the SR, everyone should try (even if you cant buy) a Sadowsky...I know why Chris likes them so much... The Ostinato is a strange one(in a good way).. Beautifull bass,i lovely tulip wood top,(it looks your looking at the wood through a magnifiying glass??) birdseye maple neck and head stock...Doesnt really sound like a jazz, (maybe a little) but is more precision like... But when you dig in, it has an awsome hifi growl. especially soloing on the higher frets... The one i always go to though is the 75,.. it seems to do everything..i really feel comfortable with taking it to any style music rehearsal..There is something about a jazz that just fits... i once couldnt afford new strings for my Vintage Bubinga 4 string, so I consider myself very lucky to own these basses..i will prob never sell any of them... I have got gass for a Modulus J4 or a FBass studio though...damn gas hey..
  12. I was wondering why bass players like either passive or active basses.. Two very different basses i own are a Lakland 55-01 with a Glock pre and Nordies and the other is a 62 RI,... i love the Lakland, its got such an amazing punchy powerfull tone, with a lovely hifi tone to it, but on the other hand the 62 has this raw Jazz growl with nothing but its wood and pick ups i suppose.. Im not i can decide what sounds better? What does every one prefer...Active or Passive??
  13. Not long ago i swapped my TRB6II for a CIJ 62 RI Jazz with Mr Russ..I played it in a funk outfit im dabbling with tonight and it is simply AWESOME!!!!!.. (for the money i really cant say that my USA 75 RI is that much better)...Its has the sweetest tone when i role off the treble, then when you dig in a little out comes this amazing growl.. Pure funk..I was laughing when i heard this thing through the Aguilar.. I will say it does have custom shop pickups in it so russ told me...how much of difference this makes i dont know??? Then comes the bridge pick up honk..full on Meshell on a Celinder!!! This is my go to bass from now on..Sooooo easy to play! The only thing that i would like is a satin finish to the neck, gloss can get a little sticky for me..Would it be wrong to sand the neck down??? Anyone got a CIJ/MIJ 62 RI..What do you think?? Thanks MR Russ!!!!

But i think there are not many better than (depending on your taste of styles) Aretha.. For voice power and control.. she is awsome...No doubt IMHO,, she is the power house of female vocals who has ever lived.. Also my love of music altogether,, Chaka Khan..probably the most talented musician/singer of our time...She also plays bass...Have you seen her?? she rocks on a jazz bass fingerstyle!!! you got to love Chaka.. One thing i never understood, is why people thought Janis Joplin had a good voice..I guess im missing something...??

Does anyone else make one or am I looking at a custom bass?[/quote] Woah....... i would first say that the Fender Jazz 24 fret (ok i know they have quality issues) is a great bass..I love that bass,was my second bass, and it blew me away.... great looking, great pups, good hardwear, and has got an awesome bridge pick up honk, like i cant get from any of my other jazz basses..Stick a sadowsky preamp in that baby and im sure the tone would be supreme!!! That aside, i cant think of a stock 24 fretter 5 string Jazz that has a bound neck and blocks? If you decide to go the custom route, for me John Shuker seems to build basses that i have heard are awsome to a modest amount of cash.. I do think that a bound, blocked neck is going to add alot of squids to what you may pay out though, and im not sure if John has 24 fret jazz basses in his inventory..Any makers from the states like Mike Lull, Sadowsky, who do 24 fret basses will hammer you on the £.And you will have a long wait.. There is a maker from Europe who makes awsome Jazz basses at a very good price, the name is Maruszczyk.. A chap on here called AREA can point you in the right direction Whats your budget, if you dont mind me asking??

Not sure why really, I guess it's the rhythm...[/quote] I think i know why..With the guitar, you form your hand position and hold it there, then sing a part..With a bass you are moving around that chord all the time with single notes..so requires more concentration.. its more difficult to play the bass and sing than guitar IMHO....The guitar is very in tune rythmically to vocals ( unless your finger picking) so is easier..the Bass requires( not always) A different route through the song so is alot harder to sing against..
  20. Does anyone find this very difficult, or does it come naturally??...Was discussing this with a bass player recently..He said he cant sing and play.. I do believe that this is something that either comes naturally or doesnt....However!.. The mind is a muscle like any other, and in being that, it may take time to train that muscle to do things that dont come naturally..There are some fingerings on the bass that i hate doing and feel very awkward..But i force myself to master them..(avoiding injury of course) hopefully making me a more agile player.. My point is, i seem to hear alot of people who say they have tried to sing/play but cant, but dont seem to have spent a lot of time practising this technique... I dont find it easy, but if i get to know the bassline, then work out the singing parts, my mind slots them in to the appropriate parts..Im trying to practice soloing on the bass, then singing a different line and its bloody hard...I feel the burn with that one...Its like a mind dead lift, while im doing a mind bench press, coupled with a mind tricep press. Any thoughts on this??
