1. this is turning into a (who do i like best) thread, which i guess is the point of the term genius..each has there own.. there is a defining term though..
2. Thought i might post this awsome woman....Ani DiFranco... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MnYyBGnznU live version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya8zuiIU-4E
3. sorry to do the Wiki Pete..there are so many ways to describe someone as a genius.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genius im baffled as to why (apart from HJ) know one has mentioned the classics..IMHO..know one alive today can come close to Beethoven, Holst, Wagner, Mozart..they will prob never be touched today in musical ability.. apart from those i would say Stevie Wonder Donald Fagan and co Prince Shakin Stevens Micheal Jackson John Coltrane Elton John and co Pink Floyd bass wise for me, there is only one really that falls into this catagory and its Victor Wooten..i cant think of anyone who takes it further..who is a true pioneer.. the word genius is so over used...theres immense talent and then there is genius...
4. bump for a world class bass and a top bloke..
5.
Yawn.
whats the point in posting if its negative? its only my opinion and i know this is yours, but i wonder if you could entertain us with your bass playing like Marcus Miller can.i doubt it....sorry im having a bad day..
6. no tapping here..ok a bit of slapping...fingerstyle magic
7. Im sure some have seen this before but this is why i love Marcus soooo much...wonderful playing from the master of soulful bass playing...i defy anyone not to love the sound of his jazz bass...his solo at the start is wonderful..then he hits you with that killer slap hook.... tis a very young MM with Sanborn IMHO the best track/clip ive ever seen of this magician of the electric bass..i love it just before he comes in with the slap he adjusts his basses tone....his slap bass is something to behold at 3.10 onwards.... whoops.. 16. Hi people...im maybe looking to wire my pickups on my jazz bass into series, as im looking for a bit more lowend...has anyone done this..if so could they give explain what i need to do...for a dummy.. what will i lose in tonal options by doing this? thanks
17. There has always been a time i thought i needed lessons.... there is always something to learn no matter how good you are..finding a good teacher is the pain..im a big believer that through the mine field that is teaching yourself, you find your own style, (bad habits and all).. more than you might be, being taught..BUT...getting a balance between that and getting knowledge from a source of more experience is the key... i agree with Velvet, like i said there is always something to learn..depending on your aspirations..IMHO there are no boundries when it comes to music..a bit like maths but its from your soul.. you only need lessons if you feel you want to...having lessons are only one avenue..i started learning piano a while ago and its opened up my musical mind no end...im a better player for it...IMO its way better than having lessons on one instrument... Chordal knowledge unlocks everything else..and i bet it will make you a better all round bassist
18.
I like that a lot - nice gig. Weren't you on here getting all despondent a few days back? If so, nice to see it's all panned out for you.
Yes bro i was that bassist...i cant go to any rehearsals if im not really into the music..which i have done and its tedious and unfair on them and me....although i love the feel, even straight up funk i find lacking in harmonic and melodic presence...... there is something about the mix of jazz/funk/soul i dig..prob why i love Disco so much....i could never be a session guy... thanks for the kind word's
19. there are hand configurations that (your) hands dont feel comfortable doing...its the brain hand coordination thing..these are the lines that if you master, will give your paws more dexterity and give you more ideas...thats the great thing about learning from CD's of your fav band.. why am i telling you guys?? try Groove Collective's 'Sneaky'...Thats fairly hard to get around..at that speed...i got it but dont come natural..check it out at 5.10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vSz7GRyujw Rhythm Stick is awsome...wonderfull bass line..i could listen to it all day...fairly simple really, those 16th's over changes are the bugger...awsome bass player...
20. Im suprised there has been no interest in this...I had one, awsome awsome tone! have a bump on me..
21. Jam guitars have had the same Mike Lull's for an age!!
22. looks like i have a rehearsal soon for, (at last) music i love!! They seem like a great mix of styles from groove to soul to acoustic funk.... Then its Gone and Ocean Eyes stand out for me.. would like to see what you guys think...this is what i play and what i play best... http://www.myspace.com/bonetomclean
23. I agree with Tim's comments on these...i played one at Dawson's and it was soo much better than a US Fender...Loads more punch, growl, etc...good luck with the sale...
24. Yeah i would so buy two Fender's for the price of a Metro...
25.
I don't see the point in live albums, generally. Primus' "Suck On This" is pretty cool, but it wasn't a vanity live record, it was one of the only recordings of Primus you could get. I like studio albums, they show what a band can do in a studio. I like live performances, you get a one-night-only version. I'd rather live stays live and it's for the people who were there.
im presuming you are giving a comparison...if not i like your later...they do both...
