1. There's very rarely enough of any interest to me in either publication to make me hand over the cash for them. I can go for long periods of time, sometimes years, without seeing a copy I think is worth buying.
2. I didn't realise that Julius was the drummer - I just saw the guy that is the spitting image of Jaco on bass & assumed it must be him. To be playing in a band with a guy that is obviously trying very hard to be your late father must be really weird.
3. That's spooky.
4. Try sending a PM to Ped. He's had Basschat T-shirts made before so he could maybe give you details of who did them.
5.
A good amp should give you a useable basic tone without having to crank the sh!t out of all the EQ knobs, sliders, buttons, whatever.
I'd agree with that. I never even use the EQ circuit on my ABM & all I've ever had are very positive comments about my bass sound when I've gigged with it. Never had a single problem with it either, unlike my Trace Elliot (one of the very old ones with the black painted wooden case) which was a total nightmare.
6. It will undoubtedly play like sh*t too. The worst bass I've ever played is a Hofner. Absolute complete and utter crap.
7.
Andrew Bodnar played bass on that track.
Did he really? I always thought it was Nick Lowe himself playing bass on that.
8. What are you going to be wearing? Choose a bass that'll stand out from your outfit, ie not a black bass with an all black outfit. (That sonic blue jazz is pretty lovely. I'm not a huge fan of Fenders but I LOVE their custom colours).
9.
Geddy Lee pretty much has the tone nailed for me. Rickenbacker, Wal, Steinberger or Fender Jazz makes little difference. You all know what he sounds like... P
As much as I love Geddy Lee I've always thought his Wal tone was bloody awful.
10. It is impossible to give a definitive answer to your highly subjective question. It was your own idea of what a "good bass sound" is that made you not like the basses. That's all there is to it.
11. If you're worried about it you could always stick some fabric tape around the part of the lead that touches the body. Not all guitar stands will react with a nitro finish (some of them actually use this as a selling point) - it tends to be the cheaper one that do.
12. Burman amps, both guitar and bass, are absolutely superb!
13. It's made from compressed weasels & there's a live frog under the scratchplate. Apart from that it's a stock 4001s.
14.
So in short - Gene Simmons, Paul Gardiner and Peter Hook inspired me to get a bass, but it was Jon Fielder who got me to actually play it - I owe that man a huge thank you.
Paul Gardiner was a HUGE influence on me. The reason I started playing bass was that I couldn't afford a MiniMoog.
15.
What is the difference between this and a normal Rik.
It's modelled on Chris Squires unique old 4001s. It's incredibly sought after & highly collectable, and they tend to change hands for daft money.
16. That's really nice.
17. I would think a more correct name for a piccolo bass would be "long scale tenor guitar". (But then it becomes a guitar, not a bass, so people stop thinking what you play on it is really clever & awesome).
18.
He had a really short Fender period didn't he?
No, they were normal 34" scale......
19. Your link doesn't work.
20.
I think theory is much more important than reading for me.
Same here. I've actually started learning to read (again) and getting stuck into some theory & I'm enjoying it, though I'm not able to give it the time I'd like to at the moment. The series of lessons that rslaing posted a while back really inspired me to give it another bash.
21. This is going to be too painful......
22. Gary Willis' "Ultimate ear training for bass & guitar" is the book you want to get.
23. Avoid them. You'll save yourself loads of money & countless hours of misery...... Flangers are nice though.
