    It is impossible to give a definitive answer to your highly subjective question. It was your own idea of what a "good bass sound" is that made you not like the basses. That's all there is to it.

    If you're worried about it you could always stick some fabric tape around the part of the lead that touches the body. Not all guitar stands will react with a nitro finish (some of them actually use this as a selling point) - it tends to be the cheaper one that do.

    Burman amps, both guitar and bass, are absolutely superb!

    It's made from compressed weasels & there's a live frog under the scratchplate. Apart from that it's a stock 4001s.

    I would think a more correct name for a piccolo bass would be "long scale tenor guitar". (But then it becomes a guitar, not a bass, so people stop thinking what you play on it is really clever & awesome).

I've actually started learning to read (again) and getting stuck into some theory & I'm enjoying it, though I'm not able to give it the time I'd like to at the moment. The series of lessons that rslaing posted a while back really inspired me to give it another bash.

BB[/quote] If it was modelled on Squires bass as accurately as it was meant to have been it will indeed be smaller. Chris has mentioned several times in interviews how he went through a period of having his Rickenbacker regularly refinished in different things (Foil, floral wallpaper etc. - this WAS the 60's!) so it was stripped and sanded quite a few times before he finally settled on the cream colour it's been for ages. He attributes the instruments unique toppy sound to the smaller mass of the body, and having owned several Ricks & not even gotten close to that sound I'd tend to agree with him. If I had one of those Chris Squire Ricks I'd definately hang on to it - they'll only appreciate in value. They already change hands for silly money. Wish I had one......

With regard to the Staccato bass - I played one when they first came out at the London music trade fair (when it was trade only before they let the great unwashed spoil it.). Pat & Chris had a small stand in a room that was chock full of fantastic basses. They had serious problems with the basses; because magnesium is such a soft metal the bridge & string retainers on the headstock began to rip out of the body under string tension over time.

If they did I'm pretty certain you'd be screwed if you needed to make an insurance claim.

I've seen infinitely worse posted by "natives" What started the jokes was simply the fact that the OP left the "R" off "Glover" - any one of us could have easily made the same mistake & the comments would have been the same. I apologise to the OP if he's been offended in any way, it certainly was not my intention to cause offence & I doubt if it was the intention of any of the other posters too.
