1. If you want it to sound like Martin Turner, get some Lull replacent pickups in there - or at least just one in the neck position. They're expensive but worth it, the current Tbird pickups sound very different. It's been on my project list for years. Just need to get a Tbird first...
2. I love mine. Goes wonderfully with a Spector.
3.
Basically the first six Black Sabbath albums!
Fixed.
4.
95p? Was that used?
Very much so.
5. I would cheerfully consider 5 of these to be among my own personal favourites. That man got good taste. Purely from that list, and Geddy's comments, I decided to take a plunge into the unknown and ordered that Fleet Foxes album. Can't go wrong for 95p on Amazon!
6. I want to know the band you played for Fumps! (PM me if you don't want to advertise )
7.
Had no idea, which tracks are fretless Pete?
Radio Ga Ga and I'm Going Slightly Mad were both fretless. Great little bass break in Ga Ga, I always thought it was a synth or something. He also played the fretless live in place of the double bass on '39 and My Melancholy Blues, I believe.
8. He's the ultimate endorsement whore!
9. I think there is a hole in the body under the scratchplate - something to bear in mind if you do consider switching to the clear one.
10. John Entwistle Geddy Lee Chris Squire Geezer Butler John Deacon Mark Bedford John Wetton Rex Brown Dave Hope Martin Turner
11. I was in the same boat. In the end I decided to just pay a bit extra and got the Neos - I didn't want to have to upgrade again in the near future, which was a potential issue with the MBEs. Didn't really fancy the whole bracing/dampening thing either.
12. I have one of these that probably needs to be sold to help fund some recent purchases. Threads like this aren't making things any easier for me.
13. I was, but respectfully 'resigned' last year. I'm still on their artists page though...
14. Beautiful bass, but it ain't a through-neck...
15. Agh! If you had put this up a month ago when I still had my Rick...
16. I had one for a while on loan. Fun to play around the house unplugged but sounded dreadful through an amp, weedy and thin. I was surprised to see Dave Pegg playing one with Jethro Tull on a DVD the other day, some time around the early 90s I think it was.
17. A couple of years ago I tried out a few P basses of various pedigrees... The Hoppus sounded the best. I could not own one however as it is the Mark Hoppus/Blink 182 bass. Shame really.
18. Foderas, Ken Smiths, Seis, ACGs... I would happily have a go on one though if the opportunity arose though. The looks just do nothing for me, and I imagine the sound to be very modern, clinical and sterile - probably totally incorrect an assumption. Despite this general aversion to this style of modern, silly money boutique instrument, I'm still fairly obsessed with Alembics, partly because they still have that 70s hippy ideal imae, but mainly because I know how awesome they can sound.
19. Amazing.
20. Supertzar by Black Sabbath. Or for the very ambitious, Queensryche's Suite Sister Mary.
21. Mine arrived yesterday - Won't get a chance to have a proper listen until the weekend though!
22.
Bummer. I suppose if you're not enjoying it then it's time to move on - do bear in m ind though that with keys you're routed to one place unless you've got an awful 'key-tar' or similar, Urgh.
Don't know what you're talking about, the Key-tar is the future.
23.
Thanks for the comments. Now been looking at the GK Neo210 - the wedge shaped one. That has a good spec, good reviews and quite light so might be a better choice as I can see other uses for it.
I just picked up two of these to use with my MB500, and they are excellent cabs. I think GK have discontinued them now though - give Mansions a shout, they may have some left.
24. Just bought another Spector Euro from Mark, I have a dangerous addiction that he understands only too well. Top bloke, very easy to deal with, and he knows his onions. A credit to Basschat.
25. When the strings get old on my Ovation acoustic bass they make my fingers smell like pickled onion Monster Munch.
