Didn't think much of the new Madness songs sadly... Nice to see Bedders playing a Bass Collection bass though! A Bruce Thomas sig I think.

A lot of the songs mentioned are tricky as hell, I'm not surprised they're a struggle!

I'va always thought they were pretty highly regarded. Guitar Guitar always seem to have a load hanging on the wall.

As for the strings, seriously, whack some flats on as soon as you can - it will bring the bass to life! Mine's got the Hofner flats with the dark green silks. Joyous thump.

I've only just got round to watching last week's episode. I find myself completely entranced by M83's keyboard player/singer.

I'd thought I'd lost my Anorak! [/quote] I've got that book. He's wrong. The sound of Argus cannot be replicated with a Rick - the pickups are in the wrong place. There's lots of clips on YT of recent MT Ash gigs, some with the Rick - it sounds totally different. re: foam mutes - these are troublesome things that cannot be switched on and off at will. MT's only palm mutes here and there on Argus and often quickly reverts to standard picking - the intro to 'Blowin' Free' and the verses of 'Time Was' for example. I have a Cataldo bass - essentially a Thunderbird with a maple bolt-on neck and repro 60s pickups - and on the front pickup only (as per MT) it's instant Argus.

I love Peter Steele's tone - massively distorted and drenched in howling feedback. It's so unique that anyone who gets even remotely close to sounding like it would be accused of ripping off his sound. Also, as mentioned above, it wouldn't really work for wedding gigs.

Blue [/quote] He probably would sound good on any bass, but your original point was, "I think he would have a similar tone and sound regardless of what bass he was playing, IMO", which is ridiculous - an Epiphone Rivoli with dead flats would not sound the same as the Alembic in the clip. The result would would probably still sound like the same player but the tone would be polar opposite.

The headstock suggests it isn't a standard MIM... Looks like a 60s reissue to me.
