  1. We did exactly this in late 2008. We disbanded in about 1991 for what we thought was the final time. Our guitarist put together an album from old demos that he rerecorded with his brother, some of his friends and our singer in 2002 and released it under our name. A few of these were pressed on CD and sold slowly. An American fan maintained a web presence for us by keeping sadloversandgiants.co.uk alive. In 2008 we got a message via the website from an Italian promoter wondering if we had considered gigging in Italy. There was also a message from a Greek promoter asking us to play there. We hadn't really spoken with each other for many years. The singer and the drummer had kept in touch, the guitarist had become a global superstar DJ and the keyboard player had moved to Santa Monica USA. Despite this we reformed the band with a different keyboard player and have been active ever since. It's so much better this time around - we only play a few gigs a year but get together many weekends - we spend most of our time together in restaurants, stuffing our faces. We have played all over Europe and in the USA and put out an album in 2018. We are recording another now. There's no pressure this time round and it's a lot of fun. Edit: I forgot to mention that in 2002 or was it 2003 the singer, guitarist and drummer got together without me but with another bass player from the band's history (both before and after my first time around) for a one off gig in Rome. Apparently the bass player got very drunk and pissed off the guitarist which put an end to that incarnation.
  2. Thanks for that info. My #1 bass is EBMM USA Sterling and of my 4 precisions, 3 of them have J necks....I suspect then I wouldn't get on with the Eastwood. Saved me making an expensive mistake.
  3. Airline Jetsons
  4. Eastwood EEB-1 ( Ampeg AEB-1 copy) I actually quite like it - anyone know what the neck feels like? I'm tempted.
  5. Still umming and aahing about a wireless system - current top of the list is the Shure GLXD16+ Price was £458 hence the umming and aahing - was waiting to see if anywhere discounted on 'Black Friday' - I notice Andertons had a big red sale banner on the item early last week and had reduced the price to £458! - now there is a black Black Friday 'sticker' on the item with the price reduced to £458! Such savings shouldn't be sniffed at.... Still umming and aahing
  6. Before the event we're discussing we were able to import goods from EU countries, irrespective of their ultimate country of origin, tariff free as we were in the same customs area. That is no longer the case.
  7. In practice it doesn't work like that. For example: My company imports some video switchers that are assembled in Romania and sold via a Belgian company. The built to order machines suffer import duties. If we import the components from Belgium and assemble the devices ourselves no import tarrifs are suffered. The 'free trade agreement' that was sold to the British public is far from a full free trade agreement.
  8. Not all new items.
  9. Nonsense. That very much depends on the commodity codes declared to customs.
  10. What free trade deal? We don't have free trade between UK and EU - I pay duties every day on imports from EU
  11. Before that there was no duty or tax liability when selling between EU countries and UK. It was as simple as buying within UK. That's all changed because of it.
  12. Only if he can prove it is to be immediately exported. If he collects from the factory expect to pay VAT and have to reclaim it when exporting.

  15. My home built PJ has 2 stacked knobs
  16. I was supposed to be going to see Cigarettes After Sex tomorrow at the O2 but I gave my tickets away to my 16yerar old son and his girlfriend. I've still got to be taxi driver.
  17. I stil haven't pulled the trigger on any wireless system yet.....my gut is telling me to go with the Shure but my head has been telling me I don't need to spend that much and should go with the Nux.....that said my main bass is a EBMM USA Sterling HH with the 3 band EBMM active circuit...probably very similar to your Stingray...this story about the Stingray possibly not working with the Nux is steering me back to the Shure... Decisions decisions.
  18. As do I. Mine currently has a green pearl scratchplate but is black Sterling 4HH with matching headstock. I will never part with mine. I am no longer interested in other basses - it's like a real marriage that actually means something.
  19. and then there's this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194368628626?itmmeta=01JAZAHC3SC2PJ9BFNSJM0B3CX&hash=item2d4145e792:g:9SoAAOSwkV1hQ11X Check out the tuners on that!!!
  20. A dongle plugged into the pedalboard input potentially works…not too keen on it needing to be charged - I have noticed though that 400-500mA power is required for the pedalboard solutions - I already use a current doubler for one of my other pedals so using the pedalboard psu might not be possible while keeping my other pedals. I also didn’t realise that pedalboard solutions have built in tuners - not necessary at all. I know the boss solution has no tuner but stipulates a boss psu only and also charges the Tx on a side which would be obstructed if mounted on my board, hence my interest in other solutions.
  21. Been hoping for that kind of situation for 40odd years LOL - closest I've come was last month's festival in Spain playing on the same (huge) stage as The Mission and The Charlatans - the amount of gear they had was impressive - towed in dedicated trailers behind their sleeper coaches..we had the relative luxury of a 4* hotel and Easyjet LOL
  22. I generally live by this rule these days - buy cheap, buy twice is very true in my experience.
  23. Our rehearsals are normally 12-6 with at least 90 minute break in the middle for lunch in the pub, so effectively a 90minute session followed by a 90minute break followed by a 3 hour session so that should be enough to keep it charged provided I remember to plug the charger in during the break - that's not guaranteed as I often forget to unplug my bass during the break (thus using battery).
  24. Do you chaps mean this system? https://www.thomann.co.uk/nux_c_5rc_wireless_system.htm That looks just the ticket and is a far smaller financial commitment than the Shure..... I didn't like the look of the Sennheiser XSW-D as there is no 1/4" input jack for use if Tx/Rx fails for some reason.
