I'm gonna mention Lee Pomeroy.
He's a weirdo - plays left handed on a right hand strung left handed bass,,,, I suppose that's what happens when a lefty learns on a righty,,,, I bet he has trouble moving on his basses given the nut's the wrong way round.

Fender Japan Jazz Bass Experts Required to spot potential fake
Twigman replied to FatFingersFlynn's topic in Bass Guitars
I've had MIJ 62 reissues and Japanese Squiers. The truss rod adjuster on the 62 reissue, is at the body end of the neck. On the Squiers it's at the headstock end.
My Japanese Squier has truss rod adjustment at the heel. I didn't think any Japanese reissues had it at the headstock. -
Can't stop looking at this thread...i ordered a Sterling USA 4HH black cw matching headstock & RW board yesterday...(at a very good proce considering what's happened to the exchange rate),,,and I was quoted a SIX MONTH wait - perhaps to discourage me from placing the order? It's going to be such a long painful wait........I need a time machine going to feel like the longest 6 months of my life - 3months was bad enough for my 1st barefaced

I find glossy necks feel horribly sticky. I have a satin nitro finish on 2 of my wood necks which feel far smoother and never feel sticky. That said lately I've prefered playing my Status neck...that's just painted isn't it? I really don't know.

Why don't any of the terminus stations have names? -
the slap sound is just fabulous so you're in for a real treat there!
I'm not really that much of a slapper - perhaps this will change my ways?
I guess the six months shows just how busy they are.
I blame all those 6 strings getting in the way of bass production

I scratched an itch that I've had for years today. I've always wanted an EBMM bass.... but Stingrays always seemed to have too wide fingerboards and seemed a little bulky...so I went and ordered a Sterling. I managed to get a very obliging retailer (it wouldn't be fair to name them - wouldn't want them inundated with requests for profit-free deals...perhaps I will in due course) to order in at a pre price rise price!! Only downside is a SIX month wait!! So I have coming an EBMM USA Sterling 4HH in black with a rosewood board and matching headstock - sometime mid next year. tick tock tick tock Christmas is cancelled but will come again when the sun comes out....

Do you have your board before the amp input or on an effect loop? What are the advantages of each? I generally use mine before the amp input...the problem with this is if there's a failure then the sound will cut. It also can make the input to the amp a little hot. I have been debating whether to get myself a couple of long leads and use the effect loop. What differences would I experience? I run a TecAmp Puma900 head. At what stage in the signal chain is the line out/return ? Would a failure in the pedalboard mean the loop is bypassed? Educamate me.
Should we try and set up oriented across the room and just "play to the room" and effectively ignore the rest of the pub - not even try to be heard out there?
This There's nothing I hate more as a punter than not being able to find a place to chat when there's a live band on. Do the punters who aren't there for you a favour.

A black Musicman Sterling - a proper one - like this: http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=160620298850008 but I don't have £1700 burning a hole in my pocket

Squier(Japan) is Fender though........the early Squier JVs were even badged as Fender (large logo) with Squier only on a small logo. The Japanese Squiers really were Fenders (IMO) - I'm sure they randomly decided whether to stick Fender or Squier badges on them. Once Squier production moved to Korea (?) and then to China or Indonesia then perhaps you have a point.

I liked my Fender 'original' hookedup to a East P-retro but these days I play a custom shop 62 passive...it does me.

Am sorely tempted to get me one of these...just the quirky looks I like....so what's the nut width?
Hello FinnDave, I've got short fingers, so my Fender Custom Shop Jazz is easier (than a Precision) to play 'cos it has a thinner (1.5 inches at the nut) neck. I've also got a MusicMan Sterling (same size) for the same reason. I've found that if I keep the nails of my right hand (I'm right handed) very short, especially the index finger, so that the nails do not make contact with the strings (just the skin of my fingers) the sound is transformed. I also use compression. There's always the option to use flats rather than round wounds too. So, in my case, I play a Jazz, or Sterling for practical reasons. I also believe that the sound of a Jazz can be customised to what you want. Frankly, If anyone in my band even hinted that I should be playing a Precision, I'd tell them to f..k o.f.
I stick Jazz necks on Ps because of Trump hands....
6/8 by far....I naturally seem to count in 3s...
I've changed my mind...a bit 9/8 is the greatest time signature since Claude Debussy's 'Clair de Lune' is the greatest piece of music ever written. There I've said it.

How many times have you broken a string?

I currently have 5 1/2 basses A black Warmoth 'dinky-P' body with a Status Jazz neck A yellow Warmoth P body with a Warmoth Jazz neck and JohnEast pre A green Warmoth PJ body with a Warmoth fretless jazz neck A fiesta red 83 Squier 62RI JV P A trans red burst Fender TBucket 300CE acoustic and a Warmoth fretted jazz neck (unattached to a body)... I currently only gig the Status necked dinkyP = why? Because my band needs fretted electric bass and of the fretted electrics that one is the newest and the lightest.
I've had a neck from Warmth and it was great, not had their bodies, but imagine everything is made to 'Fender' specs so necks/bodies will fit perfectly fine, but not as bespoke as having a Luthier make it Si
I've had 3 bodies from Warmoth All 3 have been perfect. I'm a believer in you get what you pay for but given the exchange rate at the moment Warmoth prices have become sky high compared with when i bought. Factor in VAT, shipping and import duty and Warmoth is really expensive compared with a couple of years ago.
