1.
but if you're trying to match, say, a recording of a rock song from the 70's to a drum machine, you're probably going to have a hard time.
In a modern DAW you can make a 'groove map' from a varying tempo track and trigger drum samples from it - it's not really a problem anymore with modern software and confusers
2. In the analogue tape days it happened all the time. Often songs would be slowed down or sped up slightly at mix down thus rendering them 'out of tune'.....I know we've done it more than once back in the 80s It was often done for various reasons: 1) it sounded better that way 2) It covered up a timing error 3) It was easier for the vocalist to sing 'in tune' etc etc
3. We do it all the time. It's part of the writing process. if we didn't we'd never know what was played last time!
4. My 2017 USA Sterling 4HH
5. I picked up a brand new USA Sterling a few months ago. I ordered it unseen from USA as I wanted a 4HH MH and there were none in Europe. It is perfect
6.
Headcrusher by Megadeth. proper gives the wrist a workout
IS that what people do along to Megadeth? I must say I had my suspicions.
7.
I've just listened to the box set that Twigman posted about. Sad Lovers and Giants' five disc compilation; http://basschat.co.u...-a-box-set-out/ I have no regrets on this purchase.
WOW! Thanks
8. I'm on the guest list for Kraftwerk tomorrow!! Not sure how 'live' it is but should be an experience.
9.
I never really think about which fingers go where, I just play. My little finger does have a good hard patch, so I must be using it quite a bit.
This applies to me too... Sat in the office miles from my basses, the callouses are all i have to go by...all 4 fingers on my left hand have hard patches....never thought about which finger does what.
10. A friend of mine's husband is rhythm deaf - he can't tell the difference between 4 on the floor and a waltz!
11.
Ever tried a Stingray-on-steroids AKA Sterling? That one can sometimes have a bit too much of a good sting thing...
My Sterling HH has even more!!
12. I'd never come across him before....and I can't remember the last time I gawped open mouthed at someone playing bass on telly....
13.
Where have you been?
Stuck in the 80s me....so what was he using?
14. OK so what pedals is that front man for Royal Blood using with his bass to make THAT sound...wtf? Not often am i amazed at the noises made by a bass player but that was off the wall!
15.
Have fun!
nope....I don't think I'll ever 'get' metal......
16. I know of a bass player who tuned his G string a semitone out, just the G string...he played a song which used the 4th and 2nd frets of the G string a lot (as well as the other strings) and didn't even realise it was out of tune...got this story from his guitarist
17. Been there Done that Often mistaking the 7th fret for the 5th fret or vice versa
18. I've had Reason since ver 2.5.......stopped upgrading a few years ago due to their refusal to support VST/VSTI......wondering if it's worth revisiting?
19. Am I the only person here who has never played MS?
20. This little montage sums up our trip to Spain last weekend: Being in a band involves lots of sitting around....

22.
Well done and thanks for the heads up.
No Thank you for being so gracious!
PS; Great bass sound on the studio mixes. Not so great on the live ones but that's quite normal and nothing to be ashamed of.
tbh we were never properly happy with the studio mixes - hence the redux version of the 3rd album.... We've just come back from a couple of gigs in Spain last weekend and took a multitrack from one of the shows - I played my new EBMM for the first time and the bass tone is incredible - there may be more live mixes on future releases (with an awesome bass sound)....
23. Get SSDs for everything = my i7 boots in just a few seconds and I managed to write 95minutes of audio on 32 tracks at 24/96000 with absolutely no problem whatsoever. The days of the mechanical HDD are over,
