Tobie Not sure where you are based but I would recommend a visit to a good specialist bass shop where you can try some of these out. Bass Direct in Warwick, Bass Gear in Twyford & The Bass Gallery in North London are all worth a visit. If you don't live near one of these, no doubt someone else on here can recommend an alternative. Personally, I use the same MarkBass 1x12 combo as Lozz with a 5 string & it handles it fine. I add a 1x12 cab for medium sized gigs and it's even better. If you go through the PA at larger venues, the combo alone will probably be enough as only you will be listening to it.

I'm a satisfied customer too. I'd rather have Mark's opinion, even if I don't always agree with it, than someone who didn't know the real world of bass playing.

I bought these from BC'er danengland back in November and they remain in the envelope they arrived in. It's time to sell my faithful MarkBass cab as it just isn't getting used. It's an older model without the yellow logo & cones that some love/hate. It sounds great but my smaller MarkBass rig covers all my current needs so I'd rather have the cash & space. It's a STD103HQ model with three 10" speakers and a tweeter which is adjustable on the top left hand side of the cab. It's rated at 600w and 6 ohms (actually 5.3 I believe) which almost every amp can handle. I'm not sure of the exact weight but I'd guess that it's less than 50lbs as I, a self-confessed weakling with a bad back, can lift it and carry it to the car. I bought it used 2 or 3 years back and it's in very good condition. It's from a smoke free house too. Collection from Croydon or possible delivery/meet-up or feel free to arrange a courier to collect from me once payment has cleared.

I have this rig too. I use it mostly with double bass but it sounds great with bass guitar too. For small, pubs and as a stage monitor with PA support, I think it's a very good rig. Adding the extension cab gives you more of everything and is well worthwhile IMO - I wish I'd done it sooner. An alternative to this would be to buy 2 of the cabs and a MarkBass head. The combo you refer to has an LM II or III in it. I think there may be 2 of these cabs for sale here on BC and MB amps & combos pop up fairly often. Unless you are in a rush, I would certainly go used.

I have lost a stone & a half since September so I've asked for a smaller belt. I can now fit into clothes I bought a couple of years ago so it already feels like I've got a new wardrobe. Will be trying very hard not to put it all back on over Xmas :-)

I suspect it's more likely to be the connection between the amp & speaker. Check the connection at both ends. I once had a similar thing with a cab and the cable had come away at the speaker end & just needed re attaching.

I am also a fan. I use the CMD121P combo & NY121 cab and, for me, it gets the right balance of tone, price & portability. I am sure there's plenty of stuff that excels in one or two of these but for me, MB works & has proven reliable after 300+ gigs in 5 years. It also sounds great with both double bass & bass guitar. I also own a LM II head & an old MB 3x10 cab but can't recall when I last used either.
