  1. As I mentioned when I first got involved in this conversation, my comments are in the context of a hi-mass bridge having a positive effect on Mo Foster’s bass.
  2. Nah, not buying it. How bodies and necks interact is fundamental (if you excuse the pun). Hundreds of years of instrument luthiery will attest to this. Take wood out of the equation and replace it with either nothing, or something synthetic and consistent, and yes, you’re starting from a level playing field. Once wood is in there, stuff changes.
  3. Hang on - are you actually suggesting the resonant properties of wood has no effect on how the strings behave when plucked? Have you never played an acoustically dead bass before?
  4. Im not talking about adding to tone. I’m talking about taking away from it. Knots in wood, air pockets, grain… all these are variables that can cause a clash at specific frequencies and which can kill fundamentals and overtones.
  5. Re: Mo's bass. Another possibility - maybe it had a bit of dead area (we all know these things happen) and the hi-mass bridge fixed it? Of course wood makes a difference. Resonance (or lack of) is important.
  6. Just to clarify - I think it’s good subject matter for BC, but I’m not sure giving it its own forum has any benefit.
  7. Yep, it needs to go in Gear. ***EDIT*** That’s if there’s definitely a need for it in the first place. I can’t really see the point.
  8. I can’t be bothered to watch the video, So for quickness… is is necessary to learn music theory to do what, exactly? That might make it easier to answer the question. Apologies if this has already been asked / answered.
  9. HC's a deceptive one. It's such a looooong sequence, and if you land on a root instead of a 5th (or vice verse) it sounds so wrong.
  10. Add me to the 'Eh?' pile. Years ago, a pianist pal of mine insisted spending a few hours explaining it to me. He was completely baffled as to why, at the end of it, I didn't act like like radiant beams were descending from the sky accompanied by an angelic chorus. I'd think I forgot it all within ten minutes.
  11. I know - it was just a general observation.
  12. In that case, someone else gets the bass you're after. Unlucky.
  13. We're talking about picking up the phone, not riding on the back of a turtle to a witch's cavern on an island in the middle of the Forbidden Lake of Death.
  14. FWIW the phone number’s on the website. Probably worth a try.
  15. I'm going to make my lot sit through Supper's Ready and Awaken. And they'd better pretend to enjoy it.
  16. Might just be general interference. Are you near a router, or monitor? Presumably you have a bass in that clip - what happens if you walk away from the head? Face away from it, like you would at the gig? Or rotate on the spot? Not saying it's relevant in this case, but one thing Class D heads has done is made people forget how noisy environments can be. Class D heads - for all their sins (IMO) - don't really suffer from it. I always cringe when I crank my stuff up to gig volume in the house, with loads of stuff in close proximity, but it's never a problem at the actual gig.
  17. Ah, worth a shot. The video sounds exactly like when I fire up a non-Class D head in my house, and turn it to gig volume while the powerline extenders are plugged in.
  18. Do you have powerline internet in the house? If so, switch that off and see what happens.
  19. I’m fairly sure the price will drop significantly before then.
  20. Heads up, gang: https://www.amazon.co.uk/My-Effin-Life-Geddy-Lee/dp/0063159414/
