1. Hi all I'm toying with the idea of trading one of my HS210s for an HT112ER (with a few quid in my direction). Comes with a fitted Berg cover. Alternatively, I might consider trading both of 'em for a pair of Berg 112s. Just thinking about it at the mo... anyone interested?
2.
Hmmm - I wonder whether this may be the problem. I generally have my action set fairly high and over the past few weeks I've been gradually lowering the saddles bit by bit without touching the truss rod. One of my many bad habits is that I tend to strike downwards with my plucking hand (never use a pick) which means I have to set the action quite high to stop me bouncing the strings off the frets. I've put a new set of strings on. I've got the expected zingyness which slightly confuses the issue, but the good news is that the barky mids have been reduced noticeably. Still missing the rich, full bottom-end P-sound however.
Good stuff :-)
3. Oooh... I haven't chipped in...yet: Words can only begin to describe how good this lot sounds...
4. I went through a phase a while ago of chipping away at the action on one of my Ps, making it lower and lower over a period of time. At one gig, I realised it sounded terrible - not clanky as such. just loads of barky mids, and no authority. The notes weren't very big acoustically either. I raised the action back so something sensible, and it sounded fab again... IME, of course..
5. Action too low, maybe? How does it sound acoustically?
6. Part of the reason I ain't going this time is that, for the last few tours, they've been mixed by deaf people.
7.
And if that's a Jazz, it is very much played on the neck pickup I would say...
Deffo. He's said in interviews that he did this a lot (and I believe him on that one!)
8. Flats or rounds? Let's decide... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ANwQW8aspI
9. When are the HD's back in stock, Barrie?
10. It's his Jazz, I think. And, although I'm reluctant to question the recollections of a musical legend, I'd put money on it being strung with flats, not rounds like he's been quoted as saying.
11. Hmm.. I do have a lovely 1971 Jazz that might like a new home...?
12. I'm all for companies protecting their copyright to a reasonable degree, but this whole thing reeks. JH should be ashamed.
13. Alex used to have a great tone. Now it's a drop-tuned slab of sludge. IMO, of course. :-)
14.
I have not missed Rush in the UK since the Signals tour and have been an avid fan since 1980.....but something strange has come over me with regard to them, and after some (considerable) deliberation have decided not to fork out my hard earned on this tour for the first time. At the time machine tour a couple of years ago I had a moment of clarity and suddenly realized, about mid way through, that I was really bored hearing the same old stuff yet again...and that the new material just is not my cup of tea at all. I also found the video footage featuring the band throughout to be only "mildly amusing" at best whereas others around me were splitting their sides. It's probably just me!. Anyway, that aside, good luck to Rush on the tour and I hope all of the basschatters that will be attending a great gig.
^^ this is broadly my experience. The new stuff is just pretty dull, generic and unmelodic. I wish they'd be themselves and stop trying to sound like other bands. And I know NP isn't a groover, but he used to swing a bit. Now he just sounds leaden.
15.
Too expensive. And Geddy has lost all the top end in his voice if the dvd of Time machine is anything too go by. An WOT, are you serious re the highlight bit of your post????
Serious as 'it is it really happening?', or serious as in 'do you really not like it?'... ...I really don't like it.
16. *rolls out stock answer* I'm giving it a miss too. IMO, CA was a non-event, musically speaking. The tickets are too expensive. The spoiler alert - highlight to read: addition of the string section is pure cheese. The animations are getting tedious. I find myself watching them more than the band. Alex's guitar tone is hopeless. Despite all this, I still love 'em. That's the power of Rush for ya.
17.
is that supposed to be helpful? If it sold i'd gladly make a contribution to BC, but given the current constraints it's unlikely to sell quickly.
It wasn't supposed to be unhelpful. Sorry if it came across that way. What's your preferred outcome? That they lift the charging structure?
18.
Dear BC. If I had the money to pay £7 for a listing, I wouldn't be in the position of having to sell my bass. No PayPal, no current account = necessary sale of bass. Ta
Sell it locally, then...?
19.
One more of many reasons to prefer BC to TC; BC leaves TC in the shade.
I hear this a lot. I think people have some sort of selective blindness towards some of the threads posted on BC. We have our fair share of nonsense.
20. Windows 8, by any chance? The 'metro' version of IE? I had the same problem. Windows 8 is junk.
21.
Not for tone
You can't judge something you ain't heard yet. Just saying :-)
22.
The Bergs could be seriously challenged if Alex brings out a new 112 cab
Yes. Yes, they could.
23. I'm one of the non-bass T-shirt-wearing minority, too... People buy me them, and they go straight to the back of the wardrobe. I should have a clear out, really.
24. A great era for P-basses.
