1. My '63 is on its way to its new owner. It had 'it' in shedloads, and I'm a fool for selling it. I'll see what's around, and if nothing rings my bell, an order will be going in for a Limelight P...
2.
Nice version. The Walkabout sits in the mix very well, despite the attempts of those overenthusiastic guitars and drums.
Cheers. To be fair, it's unbalanced - there's no backline for the guitars. They're all direct and the camera mic was directly in front of the PA. The bass is pretty much backline-only so it makes much more sense out in the room. Here's a clip I've quickly made: https://soundcloud.com/wateroftyne/grindy-mesa-walkabout It's not as sparkly as the tone you posted earlier but bear in mind:

My strings are ancient
My recording set-up beyond basic (DI into Adobe Audition through a cheap Pre)
I don't usually play with a pick
I'm not by any means a connoisseur of grind
Hope it helps...
3. Oh, and that's not a pick - it's just my fingernail.
4.
Something like this maybe .... https://soundcloud.c...paw-black-sheep
OK - I'll try and have a look today. Here's me & my Walkabout playing that tune, albeit not so grindy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Th8rvu2X3S0
5.
I think a lot of people are well and truly living in the past, as is quite often the case on this site.
It's easy to dismiss it as nostalgia, but it's just a taste thing. Some people like mixes that are dynamic and have space. Some don't.
6. What kind of grind are you after? Post up a clip or two and if I have time I'll try and put something together...
7. You've said your bit, and it's a reasonable request, so.. just let the thread roll.
8.
I have read so much good stuff about the Mesa Walkabout. However, having never had access to one myself, it's difficult to get an idea of what it can do. All the videos etc that I've been able to access online have been appalling in sound quality. Can anyone link to anything online that shows what the Walkabout can really do. I'm especially interested in the quality of it's overdrive. Cheers.
Ha ha... Some of the 'appalling' ones would have been mine, so I'll bow out at this point :-D
9. I think that shot of Freddie at the piano with JD standing behind him, stripped P in hand, in the Bohemian Rhapsody video probably places it into 'iconic' territory.
10.
The cloth is glued on a metal grille, so it is strong AND good looking...
Interestingly, pre-TKS, was in discussions with a well-known UK-based cab builder a little while ago about putting cloth over a grille. He old me this couldn't be done effectively - it was strictly a choice between one or the other.
11. These have been around for ages.
12. The promoters are going to love it when they book you based on your FB likes, and no-one shows up at the gig.
13. Any ol' Precision. Cabs with no tweeters. Bump the mids. Done.
14. Just out of interest... What are you hoping to achieve by getting likes from people just for the sake of it? (genuine question - not sarcasm!)
15. Glorious.
16.
How were you told that you will have to pay? I've not been told. I'm the admin on our band page.
https://www.facebook.com/business/news/update-to-facebook-news-feed
17. re: The change in January - you'll probably have to be a bit creative around how you pitch your posts. If they're straight ads, you'll have to pay. If they're 'Hey everyone.. have you seen...?' you might get away with it. Time will tell.
18. Happy Christmas to me... NCD thread here.
19. Thread from the dead... I'm about halfway through Jerry's book, and I really like it. TBH, if you're expecting loads of stuff about basses, go and buy a book about basses. But if you're interested in reading about one guy's journey through music, and how exciting it must have been to be a musician in 50s and 60s America, it's well worth a read.
20. Victor Wooten endorses these? Err.. whatever, Vic.
21. Hey gang Mr. UPS dropped by today with my lovely new TKS S112. As you'd expect from Tommy, it's a stunner. I'm a huge fan of the old version of the 112. My hope is that this is the same, albeit even cooler-looking and rear-ported. I'll not be able to give it a proper run out for a few days, but as soon as I do I'll report back. The package also contained covers for the S112 and my S212. They're excellent quality - very thick, very well made, a great fit and very reasonably priced. Fab.
22. The brown truck has arrived* More later.... * Note: this isn't a euphemism for constipation relief
23. As far as I'm aware - and I'm happy to be corrected - Mighty Mite are a lot cheaper and have truss access at the headstock: non-authentic and ugly IMO.
24.
All good points, I was just putting an opinion across that he's valuing his time at over (assuming he buys in bulk) £465 - I have no idea how many man hours it takes to do a relic, but I'd be interested to know... Especially as I'd be up for buying a mighty mite neck P neck that he's reliced to put on my jazz!
Allparts, not Mighty Mite, I believe.
