  1. (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay.
  2. Cheers all! Here's a clip from my NYE gig. It LOVES flats, and really growls when you dig in.
  3. Cheers, all! A couple of gigs in, and it's a keeper 🙂
  4. Cheers all! I've just returned from a trip to see The Bass Doc, who ran his eye over it as a sanity check. As I expected / hoped, it's all good. ...both of these will happen 🙂
  5. Hey gang! I've finally joined the pre-CBS club. Never thought it would happen... Not original: refin, replaced jack, and a couple of wires. The rest is as-is. Weighs 9lbs-ish, it's resonant and has that midrange. Gigged it last night, and it's lovely.
  6. He says here that he records direct. That said, the post is 3 years old, so he might have changed his approach since then.
  7. I guess they were.
  8. Lovely! I suspect this one I tried recently was by the same builder...
  9. I read it as ‘Guardy in the Geddian’.
  10. Geddy's book. And something else arriving later this week 😎
  11. Nonsense! They can’t be compartmentalised like that. It’s everything pre-Test for Echo, obviously:-)
  12. Just opened it and had a quick scan through.. DROOL. There's some insane stuff in there - I see he bought the too fretless Jazzes that are in the Fender Bass book, too.
  13. I didn't really love Clockwork Angels... like a lot of the more recent albums, it was too self-conscious, the production was dense and lifeless, and it sounded like Geddy had to shoehorn the lyrics into the track. I liked it when the used to write songs, with a bit of space and dynamic. Turn the Page would be on my list of overlooked Rush tunes. Also, another overlooked album, but the production on Counterparts sounds so alive. Better than the albums either side of it.
  14. I love his rhythm parts, but his lead.. not so much. Some nice bits, but he always sounds tentative to me.
  15. ..but he wrote 'Shadow of the Heirophant' off Hackett's debut solo album, so he's forgiven.
  16. IMO one of the (many) reasons We Can't Dance was a pretty bland album is that MR - for some reason - phoned all his bass parts in. They're unmemorable at best.
  17. Hmm... I think you're reading too much into it.
  18. Hmm.. I think of him as a bassist and writer who can play the guitar a bit.
  19. No, but I hear there's a new book out which might cover this kind-of stuff...?
  20. Yep, very sad news.
  21. Never seen this on my Mac.
  22. It's here! I can't open the bugger 'till Christmas day, though. FWIW, it's massive, and heavy - a proper coffee-table book. If I had paid the full 50 quid for it, it at least feels like it's worth it.
  23. Well, this is probably the only time I can say I'm above Queen in the music DVD chart. With apologies to John Deacon.. https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/music-video-chart/
  24. I can't remember the specifics, but I think the selector was chosen very deliberately to get the best out of the three combinations. it might have been to do with keeping the volumes constant.
  25. I had a TF and '71 fretless P for a while. The TF was lovely - custom-shop quality - but in reality I didn't need the J pickup so I kept the '71. If you need the Jaco honk, the TF is the only one out of the three that will give it to you.
