  1. I read it as ‘Guardy in the Geddian’.
  2. Geddy's book. And something else arriving later this week 😎
  3. Nonsense! They can’t be compartmentalised like that. It’s everything pre-Test for Echo, obviously:-)
  4. Just opened it and had a quick scan through.. DROOL. There's some insane stuff in there - I see he bought the too fretless Jazzes that are in the Fender Bass book, too.
  5. I didn't really love Clockwork Angels... like a lot of the more recent albums, it was too self-conscious, the production was dense and lifeless, and it sounded like Geddy had to shoehorn the lyrics into the track. I liked it when the used to write songs, with a bit of space and dynamic. Turn the Page would be on my list of overlooked Rush tunes. Also, another overlooked album, but the production on Counterparts sounds so alive. Better than the albums either side of it.
  6. I love his rhythm parts, but his lead.. not so much. Some nice bits, but he always sounds tentative to me.
  7. ..but he wrote 'Shadow of the Heirophant' off Hackett's debut solo album, so he's forgiven.
  8. IMO one of the (many) reasons We Can't Dance was a pretty bland album is that MR - for some reason - phoned all his bass parts in. They're unmemorable at best.
  9. Hmm... I think you're reading too much into it.
  10. Hmm.. I think of him as a bassist and writer who can play the guitar a bit.
  11. No, but I hear there's a new book out which might cover this kind-of stuff...?
  12. Yep, very sad news.
  13. Never seen this on my Mac.
  14. It's here! I can't open the bugger 'till Christmas day, though. FWIW, it's massive, and heavy - a proper coffee-table book. If I had paid the full 50 quid for it, it at least feels like it's worth it.
  15. Well, this is probably the only time I can say I'm above Queen in the music DVD chart. With apologies to John Deacon.. https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/music-video-chart/
  16. I can't remember the specifics, but I think the selector was chosen very deliberately to get the best out of the three combinations. it might have been to do with keeping the volumes constant.
  17. I had a TF and '71 fretless P for a while. The TF was lovely - custom-shop quality - but in reality I didn't need the J pickup so I kept the '71. If you need the Jaco honk, the TF is the only one out of the three that will give it to you.
  18. I can’t imagine the repair bill if you buy a grey import and it goes pop...
  19. A couple of rehearsals and one gig in, and so far it's exactly what I hoped it would be. I've run it flat, apart from dialling in a smidge of contour in at the gig. It's VERY quick, dynamic and responsive. There's a two-speed fan which works pretty hard when it's needed, but it's not intrusive, and switches off when it's done its job. I haven't tried it full-pelt yet, and I haven't tested the DI - that's still to come over the next couple of weeks, but I reckon it's going to be spot-on. Here's a photo from the gig...
  20. I believe it's mentioned above that the they're switchable voltage.
  21. FWIW I've just mentioned this to him - he's been having ongoing problems with his email. He says if you do Facebook, that's the best way to get hold of him at the moment (via the Hand Box page).
  22. To anyone communicating with Leszek - bear in mind he’s not a fluent speaker of English. Much can get lost in translation. but I understand the importance of having confidence in who you’re dealing with. i also wish there was a UK dealer for these - it’s a crime that they’re so overlooked.
  23. They are, and I've owned all three of 'em (and a Warwick Tubepath 10.1, as it happens). By default the R-400 is a lot tighter and present than the WA, but if you hit the input harder it'll go into WA territory. I liked the 600, but didn't love it. It was just too wide with a hole in the middle that I struggled to recover.
  24. If you can find a used Handbox R-400, you're in business.
  25. That's the original bridge. It's worth bearing in mind the 5's came first. The 4's followed a while afterwards, with some of the bugs that the 5 had (tricky intonation being one of them) all ironed out.
