I think I could be tempted to go for a Status Graphite, either a Series II Classic or the Chris Wolstenholme model 😍 . I'm loving the early 90's SII that I recently bought and would be very interested to compare it against these newer models, different preamps etc.

Why does Ashdown MAG 300 combo sound so bloody good?
Deedee replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs
Totally agree with this. I personally can't get on with Ashdown amps, but that's down to me, my ears and my expectations. There are however plenty of people who love them to bits that probably wouldn't like the amps that I do favour. -
I'd start on a Precision copy to 'practice' on. That way you can add an additional pick up at the rear (P/J) or change the original split coil for whatever you fancied (a soapbar, MM etc). If it all goes a bit Pete Tong at the neck pickup, you can at least hide all the evidence under the scratchplate!

Peavey TNT 130 vs Ashdown electric Blue 180
Deedee replied to skidder652003's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had one with a Sheffield speaker too. All very decent as I recall. -
My newly acquired 1991 S2 (or S2 'Matrix' as I think it would have been termed at the time being headed). This is a bit of a timewarp bass - it really is in mint condition. It recently came into this country from the Netherlands (where the original owner resided). Maybe a member on here? I did initially think that I had a problem with a noisy preamp/buzzing at higher volumes. Turns out that the equation of this bass + my old Trace SMX's + the electrical interference in my man cave = buzzing at high volume. Tried it elsewhere in the house, at different times of the day and through a couple of more 'modern' amps and it's as quiet as a mouse. I'm really enjoying it and as @MB1 warned me, I may end up wanting more than one!

Bought an amp off Will and he very kindly offered to drop it off to me to save arranging a courier. Had a good natter about all things bass and life in general. Many thanks again Will, much appreciated. All the best

Definitely Peavey for me. Well built and easily achievable good, usable tones. -
Constant annoying hum/noise from (new) active ACG bass
Deedee replied to Aero71's topic in Repairs and Technical
Tried switching off and it doesn’t seem to make too much difference at ours. The power line ethernet on the other hand really does make a difference. I have a similar issue to the OP at the moment but I’ve given up trying to get to the bottom of it! In my house, certain basses through certain amps = buzz. -
We’re all guilty of it. Heart over head but sometimes it just has to be done.
-
That pretty much summed up my experience of them 🤣

Nice one 👍

Better now I’ve put some of my favoured ‘worn-in’ strings on. The strings that were on were really bright and made it almost uncontrollably zingy for my liking. As you know these things have got oodles of treble on tap so it’s a little more tame now and sounding lovely with the treble there to EQ in as and when necessary.

Don’t worry, I hope not to!

Will do Mart 👍

Here you go. It really is mint and that gloss finish is like glass.

But yours is new, with mid control.............. and lights!

Yes, arrived yesterday. I'll be taking some pics shortly

Ibanez BTB vs Ibanez SDGR - what’s the difference in brand philosophy here?
Deedee replied to haysy's topic in Bass Guitars
I tried a top end SR and loved the Norstrands. I’ve had a couple of BTB 4 strings and I agree, great quality basses. I was a little disappointed the last time I looked (possibly a couple of years back now) that the top end 4 String BTB wasn’t available with the Norstrand pickup as on the top end SR 4 strings. 😟 -
Exactly this. At one point I viewed music/the band as too great a draw on my time due to growing work pressures etc. I then realised that it was actually the one welcome distraction and outlet to allow all those pressures to be resolved. All the best to you Stew.

Packing a 410 for courier to NI - advice please!
Deedee replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I recently sold and shipped an Ashdown 4x10. As stated previously, protective cover then the usual suspects of bubble wrap and cardboard. However to avoid what was a very cumbersome weighty lump being mishandled and to help the drivers and guys at the various handling depots, I cut holes in the sides where the handles were and placed signs all over it instructing said people to use them. Seemed to do the trick. If you make it easier for them, you’ll reduce the risk of it being hurled around. -
