1.
... there was a Green Lane Music in Brum ...
I remember that.
 2. Mesa Walkabout Scout 1x12 Combo which sounds fine. Before that I was using Markbass with Ampeg cab and before that Ashdown, which all also sounded fine. I've got a Phil Jones Bass Briefcase too, which also sounds fine.
 3. Excellent - why can't I get a gig like that? Er ... don't answer that.
 4. I've have used them and do use them and never had a problem.
 5. Some Epiphones, such as the Casino, never have had Gibson on them as they were never Gibson copies but Epiphone originals. Epiphone SGs are Gibson copies and did, at one time, have Gibson on the TRC. Epiphone Casino headstock: Epiphone SG headstock:
 6.
The ultimate 'keep it in the mix' instrument. Few instruments sound quite as bad soloed as a banjo
I love the banjo!
 7.
I don't think I'm that interested in bass players so I don't know who is rated highly and who isn't. I generally like bass players who play interesting parts in good bands, and dislike bass players who play at trade shows.
Ah good, I'd nearly forgotten why I don't go to trade shows. Thanks for the reminder.
 8.
Fender Precision / Ford Escort of yesteryear - millions of 'em!

I thought they were more of a Ford Transit myself

With you on that. Squier Precisions are Fiestas.
Fender Precision = Ford Cortina Mk2
 9. If my memory serves, which it may not, I started the 1970s with Selmer amp and Laney cab and, via Hiwatt, Marshall, Fender, finished the 1970s with HH amps and Electrovoice cabs.
 10.
The 5 String set of these has a "136" low-B. How are these big hummers fitting in the nut, is everyone having to file a huge slot or you getting by without nut surgery? "that sounds bad don't it?"
When I had a G&L 2500 the TI .136 fitted fine without filing.
 11.
Why not...it'll be new to someone!
OK: http://liutaiomottola.com/myth/perception.htm
 12.
I feel a discussion on the difference between tension and compliance coming on.
Surely not again?
 13.
BTW you are wearing your bass too high... ;-)
Perhaps his body is too long?
 14. Olympic white - but I can live with most colours as long as it doesn't look like a coffee table and isn't blue.
 15.
Don't think he was asking about the rights and wrongs of doing it. Just some advice on how to do it.
That's never stopped us in the past.
 16. Some Youtube clips of the tugbar in action in this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165990-thumb-rest-above-or-below/page__p__1510136__hl__thumb%20rest%20above%20or%20below__fromsearch__1#entry1510136
 17. I have trouble with the singing, never mind playing at the same time.
 18.
Pre-CBS plectrums are definitely the ones to go for - if you can afford them. I believe they have extra sustain. You could buy a dozen for sixpence in the old days. But now you have to sell your granny.
I have an original pre-ErnieBall Music Man strap and it can't be beaten for comfort or tone. Make me an offer if you like.
 19.
My strap is set so the bass is consistantly in the same position/place whether I am seated with it on my lap or standing.
This.
 20.
And with the awesome Jeff Hamilton on drums you'll not go far wrong
Gene Harris wasn't too bad either.
 21.
"Sea Form" ha.
Must be a very rare custom colour.
 22.
... On the other hand, I do wonder if for some people it is a question of semantics and that "cutting through" means the same as "sitting in the mix" ...
That's me ... if it 'sits well' in the mix then it has it's own sonic space and will be well heard amongst the other instrumenst and will not overpower or be overpowered by the other instruments, and that is to say it will 'cut through'.
 23. While I share the dubiousness about tabs and how inaccurate they are, I've come across proper notation that was incorrect as well.
