1.
I've experienced DPD and they are the best courier out there. I only get things like ASOS clothing delivered but they are the first courier to go properly 'modern'. You get a one hour window by email/text, you can trace the van on a map, and you can even see what number yor delivery is and if its getting closer. If you know you aren't in, you just change it online. No additional charges. It's the way the ALL should be by now.
I've had to pay additional charges with DPD. I particularly hate them.
 2.
Anyone used DPD for sending stuff? Having stuff delivered by them is marvelous. Best tracking system out of any courier by far. As far a restricted items, musical instruments aren't on their list.
I've never had a good experience with DPD and I've had several bad ones.
 3.
The Coronado has more possibilities then the Starfire with having two pups. I've not noticed the Coronado being low output, but given the Bisonic probably has more oomph. The Starfire may only have one tone, but it was very good.. woody with bite. Between the maple Coronado and the Mahogany Starfire you could maybe compare a TBird to a P bass.. of course don't hold me to that!
OK, thank you.
...I could've easily got the action down on the one in Wunjos, apart from the strings might be banging off the pup....
OK, but with semi-acoustic basses (IMHO) it's best not to have the action too low as it can strangle the tone and output. I've no idea if there is any science to this but it is my experience.
... When I ditched the useless factory strings for La Bellas on the Coronado it transformed the bass, and a set of La B's on the Starfire would make a formidable combination.
I used to have a Dearmond Starfire with Hammon Dark Stars and it was especially good with TI Jazz Flats.
 4.
I know this was aimed at someone else but I tried a Coronado and a Starcaster at the same time. I found the Coronado to be very dull and uninspiring, with quite a low output. The Starcaster was the loudest and most aggressive if the trio, but quite heavy with it. Of course, all three basses were wearing factory rounds which didn't do them any favours whatsoever...
Thanks, and agreed on the rounds.
 5.
...I went to Andertons a with the cash in hand but was sadly disappointed with the bass. The sound was lovely but the QC was shoddy. They had another in the stock room which I had requested to see but after nearly an hour of waiting I left.
I tried to arrange a part exchange deal with Anderton's by email. If they had been able to give a straight answer to my emails I would have been down the shop spending money but they just stopped answering. So I'll go elsewhere. Which colours did Anderton's have and which did you try?
 6.
Yes. Played one in Wunjo the other day. Bloody lovely I thought
How did it compare with the Coronado?
 7. I'm still using a Boss TU12 which I bought second hand for £8 in I think it was 1990.
 8. My 20-fret bass has 36 different notes (plus some bonus harmonics) and 48 repetitions (excluding harmonics) of notes. There are ten notes that are available in only one place on the fingerboard. I think I counted all that correctly.
 9.
I've gone from years of using steel roundwounds to now only wanting nickel rounds and I won't go back... however, when it comes to flats, steel is just fine (I've yet to see nickel flatwounds anyway).
Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats and Pyramid Gold Flatwounds are both nickel.
 10.
http://janartsguitar...y/tonewood.html Not sure if this has been posted already but it's fascinating reading.
That link doesn't work.
 11.
I just wish manufacturers/makers would just try and come up with something new. It's always Jazz or Precision bass derivatives and it's not just about shape or pickup configurations. The last truly original bass I've seen was the Deimel Firestar (below) and to be honest most comments were directed at the makers choice of haircut rather than what the bass actually delivered. P
Very nice, it looks like a Gibson non-reverse Thunderbird.
 12.
Nice, I had one of these. Never seen one that colour - suits it. Might be worth pointing out that this is a medium scale, with Tri-Sound. Cheers.
Yes 32" scale and Tri-sound sometimes called Thor-sound as in the headstock pic.
 13. These are very nice. I had an early one with four-a-side headstock.
 14. Have you tried 41"?
 15.
... the latest trend of using ... flats ...
Hardly a 'latest trend' when almost all music shops don't even stock them. The trend has been rounds since about 1970 and remains so. There is a minority bucking the trend and using flats; some of us for a long time.
 16. Music is not a competition.
 17. I am in a band that plays the B-side: Three Time Loser.
 18. Dan Lakin's website says 'choose any colour' so that would be popular.
 19. Some say it makes a difference and some say it makes no difference. I say about a hundred things make more difference. You'll have to decide yourself. There are many threads on this topic already if you search.
 20. Old Grey Whistle Test version - interview with Kevin Ayers then song at 1.40: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXZw9JF_3j8
 21.
... Why do so many basschatters delete all the info from their sale thread when it's gone, I think the threads are invaluable when deciding on a fair price for buyers and sellers.
Yes, deleting is stupid.
 22. Look at the sold prices on Basschat, on eBay, on Gumtree, etc.
 23.
Good point about the strings. Unfortunately I'm a bit fussy. I want an unlined fb and passive elects. Also I'm looking for a something a bit different to that which Gak seem to carry in stock. Thanks all the same.
Yes, I wasn't suggesting you go to GAK. It was merely one example of 4-strings being much more common than any other number of strings - in any case.
 24.
If I can throw a question in here please. If going for fretless, is it better to go 5 string? I ask because I'm much more at home on a 4 but 4 strings seem hard to find. Is there a reason for this?
If you play 4 fretted then go same make and model 4 fretless and your muscle memory is in the right place on the fingerboard. I'm surprised anyway that you say fretless 4 strings are hard to find. At GAK for example almost all the fretlesses are 4 string.
