... I just don't get tribute bands, why anyone would want to be in one or why anyone would want to see one.
Because of excellent songs, excellently played in an excellent performance ... and so an excellent night out. I think that's usually why.
The best courier is the one that gets your item there safely and on time and the worst courier is the one that delivers your item damaged or it goes missing. They are all much about the same and i've used them all. I have had great and appalling results with Interparcel for example where they have delivered on time and also where the item went 'missing' only for it to turn up SEVENTEEN days later! They are all as good and bad as each other. All you can do is keep your fingers crossed and hope.
But aren't Interparcel merely a broker. They send your parcel with one of the following couriers as shown on their website: UPS TNT FedEx Express Parcelforce DPD Post NL City Link Hermes Collect Plus ETS CitySprint -

'66 Slab Precision...Anyone seen one/got one?
EssentialTension replied to Rick's Fine '52's topic in Bass Guitars
Okay! firstly its not a P Bass! Its a 1966 'Telecaster Bass'! It just happens to look like a P Bass. I have played an original 66 that was owned by John Entwistle. It was quite heavy with ash body not swamp ash. I've had the pleasure of chatting with Barrie Midford-Millership who was the creator of the slab. It was his 'baby'! You need to read is book. Its all in there.
I am confused by the words 'Precision Bass' in your avatar of a Slab66 headstock. -
Depends on your choice of gauge surely? The 'standard' offerings e.g. 45/65/85/105 definitely have this, but if you go for the balanced tensions sets (or just buy the right gauge singles) then this can be engineered out. There is of course then the compliance issue
Yes, that's why I said 'usually' and 'commonly'.
How heavy are we talking here? I've never had a problem using .110s with standard tuning on any bass including a Rick, In fact thinking about it, I briefly tried stringing the Rick with .130s (I think) and tuning to B, like the bottom 4 strings of a 5 string. No problems there either, although obviously it need setting up for the extra tension.
Tuning BEAD usually means less tension than EADG because a B string is commonly less tense than a G string.
-
What do you mean by 'heavy' strings? Do you mean high tension? What 'heavy' strings did the Rickenbacker and the MM not like? What do you mean by those basses not liking the 'heavy' strings? A Precision bass can cope with high tension strings but generally speaking so should any bass with a working truss rod.

And CityLink once put a 'you were not at home and we could not deliver' card through my letterbox while I was standing in my hall. By the time I had opened the door the guy was speeding off down the road. -
I've experienced DPD and they are the best courier out there. I only get things like ASOS clothing delivered but they are the first courier to go properly 'modern'. You get a one hour window by email/text, you can trace the van on a map, and you can even see what number yor delivery is and if its getting closer. If you know you aren't in, you just change it online. No additional charges. It's the way the ALL should be by now.
I've had to pay additional charges with DPD. I particularly hate them. -

As far a restricted items, musical instruments aren't on their list.
I've never had a good experience with DPD and I've had several bad ones. -
Guild Starfire Bass announced at NAMM
The Coronado has more possibilities then the Starfire with having two pups. I've not noticed the Coronado being low output, but given the Bisonic probably has more oomph. The Starfire may only have one tone, but it was very good.. woody with bite. Between the maple Coronado and the Mahogany Starfire you could maybe compare a TBird to a P bass.. of course don't hold me to that!
OK, thank you.
...I could've easily got the action down on the one in Wunjos, apart from the strings might be banging off the pup....
OK, but with semi-acoustic basses (IMHO) it's best not to have the action too low as it can strangle the tone and output. I've no idea if there is any science to this but it is my experience.
... When I ditched the useless factory strings for La Bellas on the Coronado it transformed the bass, and a set of La B's on the Starfire would make a formidable combination.
I used to have a Dearmond Starfire with Hammon Dark Stars and it was especially good with TI Jazz Flats. -
I know this was aimed at someone else but I tried a Coronado and a Starcaster at the same time. I found the Coronado to be very dull and uninspiring, with quite a low output. The Starcaster was the loudest and most aggressive if the trio, but quite heavy with it. Of course, all three basses were wearing factory rounds which didn't do them any favours whatsoever...
Thanks, and agreed on the rounds. -
...I went to Andertons a with the cash in hand but was sadly disappointed with the bass. The sound was lovely but the QC was shoddy. They had another in the stock room which I had requested to see but after nearly an hour of waiting I left.
I tried to arrange a part exchange deal with Anderton's by email. If they had been able to give a straight answer to my emails I would have been down the shop spending money but they just stopped answering. So I'll go elsewhere. Which colours did Anderton's have and which did you try? -
I've gone from years of using steel roundwounds to now only wanting nickel rounds and I won't go back... however, when it comes to flats, steel is just fine (I've yet to see nickel flatwounds anyway).
Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats and Pyramid Gold Flatwounds are both nickel. -
I just wish manufacturers/makers would just try and come up with something new. It's always Jazz or Precision bass derivatives and it's not just about shape or pickup configurations. The last truly original bass I've seen was the Deimel Firestar (below) and to be honest most comments were directed at the makers choice of haircut rather than what the bass actually delivered. P
Very nice, it looks like a Gibson non-reverse Thunderbird.
