1.
I've seen these things on the net that are a kind of halfway house. They are foam cases - with a shoulder strap. It looks like a hard case in shape but is made of lightweight but durable foam and has a nylon type bad that goes around it for carrying. Looks a bit of a faff to me.
I've got a foam case and its no more faff than a hardcase. Weirdly enough, this is the second time in minutes on this forum that I've mentioned it! http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/sea...query=1SKB-SC44 Its lighter than a hardcase, easier to carry (it has shoulderstraps), but protects it much better than a gig bag would. As someone who doesn't drive and regularly has to get public transport its perfect for me.
2. If its one of those two you want, I vote Hiscox. I do, however, use one of these for my jazz and its also ace: http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/sea...query=1SKB-SC44 The shoulder straps are extremely handy.
3. Bought this beauty off a fellow basschatter a few weeks ago. Its one of the newer reissues but I'm sure you won't mind Its really hard to photograph the finish. In person it has a bit of a green tinge to it, for some reason photos make it seem much more blue than it really is! I think the headstock photo is probably the most representative of what it really looks like
4.
No matter what musical solution you chose to bluff your way out NEVER start making accusatory faces or look sheepish and mouthing sorry to fellow band mates. Save it till after gig. IMO nothing looks worse and more amateurish that the "oh dear" faces when people are playing. The point being that audience will generally not notice the musical error even if its pretty bad - only your guilty face. I watched a band recently that I used to play in and so know their song pretty intimately was only able to tell they messed up a couple of things by the guilty/accusatory face syndrome. Sorry to go on a bit but it really gets my goat.
^^^^^^this. I normally just laugh if one of us screws up. If you all look like you're having fun and you all keep going then no one will notice any mistakes.
5.
Interested in anything in this thread for the dano?: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=148499
No, sorry.
6.
Fender 65R, one of the nice older ones, need to get it back off my brother and will check it over/send pics, I'll sort delivery.... for the Dano if you can drop it off at a friend's in Paisley?
Sorry, I had a rethink and have decided I don't really need another guitar amp at the moment. Thanks for the offer though.
7. Greetings! Up for sale/trade are two of my babies. I love both of these guitars to bits but I am more of a bass player than guitarist these days and I don't see the point in having guitars sitting in my cupboard not being used when they could be out there being loved! The first is a Schecter Corsair with bigsby. I bought this guitar new in September 2005. Its never been gigged (in my band I play bass) and has always lived in a smoke free, pet free enviroment. It has two coil-tappable Duncan designed humbuckers (believe they are based on the '59 model), a Bigsby tremolo, and some lovely cream binding. It is currently set up for 11s and I am including a Hiscox hard case in the sale. This is, as far as I can tell, the same guitar as the Porl Thompson signature guitar but with a different finish. Its in fantastic condition with the exception of a slight defect in the binding where the neck meets the body (there is a photo of this). I believe this to be purely cosmetic (its been there since I bought it and never got worse). The pin-up girl on the body is a waterslide decal, so I believe this can be removed easily if required. CONSTRUCTION/SCALE: Set-Neck / 24.75" BODY: Maple NECK/FINGERBOARD: 3-pc. Mahogany/Ebony FRETS: 22 Medium INLAYS: Dots PICKUPS: Duncan Designed HB-101 ELECTRONICS: 2-Vol/2-Tone (Tap)/3-Way switch BRIDGE: Roller TOM w/Bigsby B-70 vibrato BINDING: Creme Multi-ply TUNERS: Grover HARDWARE: Chrome More pictures are available here The cheapest I can find a new one of these in the UK is £850, and that is without a case. I am therefore looking for £500 for this, including Hiscox hard case. The second guitar is a Korean made Danelectro U2 56 reissue (from the 1990s, I believe). I bought this on eBay a while ago so whilst I am not entirely sure of its history it is in great condition and sounds fantastic. I genuinely believe that these guitars punch way above their price point. I actually bought this guitar after the guitarist in my band bought one (unfortunately he's a lefty so I can't sell him this!) and started gigging it in preference to his USA strat! It comes in a really nice Aqua finish and has independent vol/tone controls for each of the two lipstick pickups. The only "issue" with it is some discolouration around the tape/binding next to the strap-pin on the bottom of the guitar. I think this has probably come off the previous owner's strap. It is entirely cosmetic and you cannot see it when playing the guitar. There is a photo of this, along with more pics, here. I'll chuck a strap in with the sale as well as a (beaten up, but functional) Fender gigbag. I am asking £150 for the danelectro. In terms of trades I would only be interested in a Godin Fifth avenue (or similar), a giggable bass amp (head, not combo) a DHA DI-EQ, and a Pandora Mini/PX4D plus cash adjustment as necessary. I would prefer to deal locally. I live in Glasgow but am regularly in both Edinburgh and Fife (Dalgety Bay). I will deliver within a reasonable distance of these places, for a small contribution towards my petrol costs! If I receive no local interest then we can perhaps discuss a courier option at your cost, so please get in touch! Questions and enquiries welcomed.
8.
Keep and eye on ebay, 6 strings don't seem to go for anywhere near as much as their 4 and 5 string cousins.
Whisper it...but......its because 6 strings are rubbish All opinions are my own, yadda yadda yadda...
9. I just bought a five string TRB and its ace. Suspect the 6 string version is equally good.
10. It might sound a bit morbid but that kind of thing is worth putting in your will---if your loved ones are going to have to "deal with" all your gear after you're gone then a "this is what this stuff is and this is what its worth" document could come in very handy, especially if you have anything odd/rare/valuable.
11. My wife made me a tshirt based on one I'd seen elsewhere. It has a picture of a graphic EQ on it, based on one off a Trace Elliot amp, and it says "Aim Low, Play Bass" on it
12. I'm always amazed that at a gig I can play a 40 minute set of our original material with next to no bother....but when sitting at home, can I manage to keep "Billie Jean" going for the duration of the whole song? Can I heck. Coming from other instruments I find the physical aspect of bass playing is possibly the hardest part of learning the instrument.
13. The trick is just to set the bar a *little* bit too high. If I try to learn something and find myself thinking "this is impossible" then I know its probably beyond my current level. If I find myself thinking "bah, nearly...next time...bah, so close....right try again....oooh, almost...." then its probably at an appropriate level.
14.
[*]Is it OK to do Jazz arrangements of Pop tunes (Kings of Leon, Killers, Gaga)?
I believe the answer is "hell yes", so long as you do it well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_4fiMIxO2E...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKllfSfgB4k...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xqwSCMF23o
15. Looks cool Personally I'd be really nervous about leaving anything valuable in my garage though!
16. Maybe its just me, but I don't really give a toss about what the other guys play, so long as it makes the band sound good. If someone wants to double "my" line then if it sounds cool, go ahead. If it sounds crap, then we have issues, but I don't need a moment of personal glory to enjoy a gig.
17.
there were more people in the other bands in the audience then the audience itself.
You say that like its unusual
18. I've seen a two-piece rock band do this with a guitar into a Marshall half stack and bass combo. Sounded immense. Not sure it would work with a bass though.
19. Personally, I think 6 strings are rubbish but if I wanted one, I'd get one. Lifes too short to worry about other people. So long as your playing suits the band you're playing in then its none of your bandmates business what the instrument you're playing is.
20. I would imagine that you'd need really strong magnets to hold the weight of your pedals. And really strong magnets in close proximity to expensive electronic equipment is a pretty bad idea.
21. Hi guys Took delivery of a deliciously lovely Yamaha bass yesterday---thanks Lucatus---but I'm just wondering if the case I have is snug enough (picture below). It fits pretty nicely around the neck, but there's a little bit of wiggle room around the upper/lower horn. I guess I'm slightly worried that the whole thing will slide up (towards the headstock) and end up putting too much pressure on the headstock...am I worrying over nothing? I guess there's less wiggle room than one of those cases where the inside isn't shaped, right?
22. ...For when the inevitable forum trading begins!
23. Bought a Yamaha TRB1005 from Pablo (lucatus). Excellent communication, friendly guy to deal with, posted the bass exactly when he said he would and packed it well. Couldn't have asked for much more from a seller really! Thanks
24. Hi guys I just acquired a new bass and I want to raise the action on it a bit---I play quite hard and I'm getting string buzz and quite a lot of extra string noise. I think raising the strings a little will help. The question is, how do I know whether or not to adjust the saddle height or the truss rod (or both?)? Thanks
