1. I don't own a "giggable" bass amp---just a 20W Warwick practice amp. This probably makes me a bad person in the eyes of many---but we've never done a gig where there wasn't an amp provided or a DI to the PA available. I'm not particularly precious about my bass sound and for noisy punky rock n roll as long as its loud enough and I can hear it then I'm usually happy to let the sound guy do whatever he wants with the FOH sound. I've thought long and hard about buying a bass amp but I could go out and spend a grand on an amp tomorrow and probably only get an opportunity to use it once a year---seems pointless to me, I'd rather just borrow one as necessary!
2.
Still waiting for an item dispatched on Thursday with Parcelforce 48 hour delivery......! The tracking number does not work and no-one knows where it is.
Silly questions: 1. Could the person who sent it to you have made a typo when sending the tracking info? 2. Do you trust the sender (giving false tracking numbers is a common tactic for scammers to delay people from realising whats happening)? Having said that, a friend of mine bought a 4x12 on eBay and parcelforce somehow managed to lose it. I suspect that someone worked out what it was and stole it. There was also a thread on musicradar a while back by a guy who had a custom pedal go "missing" at a depot and then a few weeks later his pedal turned up on eBay (the serial numbers matched).
3. At the company I work for we manufacture delicate (but large) scientific equipment. When packaging our equipment we've discovered that making things easy to lift/move is a bad ideca- the general rule is that it it *can* be thrown around then it will!
4.
Thanks for your responses so far. I'm hopefully going to try a few SR's this week. My current bass is a G&L L2000 which i am having to sell due to weight & back problems Sad times
I'm in the market for a new bass and, weirdly enough, my current two favoured options are either an SR600 or a G&L L2000...
5.
It won't fit if the case is too rigidly Jazz shaped - the L-2000 body is much more like a Precision than a Jazz (no offset waist). It's not a good enough reason not to get an L-2000 though - if it doesn't fit then just get another case
Hmm. I only ask because as a birthday present my wife bought me a nice case for my jazz bass, but now I fancy an L-2000 and would rather not have to buy *another* nice one...
6. Apologies for bumping an old thread but I have an L2000 question that isn't worth starting a new thread for. Will an L2000 fit in a case which is designed specifically for a Fender Jazz (ie moulded to the body shape etc)? Thanks
7. Beautiful bass. Probably as well I didn't know about it last week when I was at Gatwick...
8.
You seem to be dismissing the fact that the shimmer mode isn't the only mode
I know its not the only mode, I just wasn't very clear I don't have any practical need for *any* kind of reverb pedal at the moment. If I bought one it would be purely for the shimmer mode, hence my comments. If I *was* a reverb kind of person, I'd love to buy one of these. But I would still think it was expensive. Especially when compared to something like the EHX Cathedral.
9. It faffs about with your signal impedance and simulates the effect of a longer cable? Its £140 ffs (for the cheapest one!)---just buy a longer cable and/or a buffer/true bypass box. To be frank, it looks like a total waste of money.
10. Howdy folks Fairly new here, and relatively new to bass playing. Currently play a Jazz copy (that I bought from McNach of this here parish!) in this band: http://www.supermarionation.co.uk Our EP is available for listening on the website and via spotify and the usual online retailers... I started playing bass as a sideline to guitar, but I've recently decided to take the bass playing more seriously, so we'll see what happens...music wise I'm into most things. Not a big fan of slap bass and overly showy stuff though---I'd rather be Robbie Shakespeare than Victor Wooten!
11. The shimmer mode on the reverb is one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard an effects pedal make---but I don't think I could find much use of it in a band and its a lot of money for something that would sit in my bedroom and every so often I'd turn it on and go "oooh, puuuuurrrrrrrty"
12. I've never wanted to play fretless bass. I'd rather learn to play upright bass than a fretless bass guitar.
13.
Just wondering how this is usually resolved.
Depends on the band and what arrangement they have with each other. REM have an agreement that all songwriting credits get split equally regardless of how much work each member does on individual songs. One of the reasons for the demise of The Smiths was a disagreement over finances. If you're asking from the point of view of your own band---basically you need to decide amongst you who gets the credit for writing.

big muff

I've got one and use it on bass. Here's my thoughts: 1. On its own it sounded good, but all my bottom end disappeared in the mix so it wasn't very practical for using with a band. 2. Using a Boss LS-2 to mix in some clean signal and keep the bottom end makes it sound awesome.
15.
For a bit more, you can get the SR5005E (not mine!) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=142778
Thats awesome. Bit more than I want to spend (and definitely more than I can afford to spend right this second!)
16.
Mine has the Omni-Adjust bridge, I believe they later replaced it with one called the Accu-cast. Not sure how it compares with the SR5xx bridges that appear to be having issues.
That bass looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
17. Thanks for all the info guys. Lots to go on! As for "anything else that you need to know?" the only thing that springs to mind is "which models come in natural finishes?" but thats just being lazy Thanks again Sam
18. Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like I could be on to a winner (eventually). Does anyone know if the necks are much the same size/shape across the range? I'm not against buying online but I'd be reluctant to do so without being confident that the neck would suit me (I find some basses almost unplayable...). Trying a cheaper one locally and then looking online for a high-end second hand bargain is very appealing!
19.
I also like Yamaha instruments a lot, so these might be worth checking out too.
Yamaha make some great instruments (I've owned several) but I don't get on with the aesthetics of their basses. It may be shallow to dismiss a bass based on looks---but when there are so many great playing/sounding basses that I *do* like the look of theres not much point settling for something I'm not aesthetically pleased with!
20. Hey folks Currently I play a Jazz bass by Vintage which I really like and which plays great, but longer term I'm thinking about getting something better/different. I quite like the look of the Ibanez SR range--specifically the higher end ones like the SR600, SR700. Anyone got any comments on Ibanez basses? Are there better things available for similar cash? My requirements are a bit vague (I'm very early on in my research...). I need a slim/small neck because I have small hands. I don't like things with lots of bling. Lightweight is good. Soundwise we're talking as versatile as possible (I'm into pretty much everything except metal) for both recording and gigging. I don't like musicman styles. I want a "keeper". I probably only want 4 strings. I don't have unlimited funds, so lets say less than £1000 (preferably a lot less!!). Anyone care to point me in the direction of anything specific?
21. Hi guys I'm in a similar position...I don't have a bass amp at home (no space/too lazy to cart one back and forth) but I'd like to be able to practice all the same. I already have a small mixer that I use for recording and so on. I'm kind of tempted by the BDI21 just so that I can plug bass into behringer then into my mixer, use headphones, and get a fairly decent bass tone for practising. What do you think? Also, I've heard some people say that the ADI21 (the acoustic guitar version) is "better" because it has a mid EQ control. Since I play guitar as well I'm kind of tempted by one of these, since it would be more versatile. Anyone got any comments on using the ADI21 with bass? Thanks
22. I immediately thought of one of these http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64899
23. Thanks for the thoughts guys. I think, on reflection, that it won't really work. I'll just need to find another justification to buy one!!!
24. If I were you I'd start by replacing all of the electronics except the pickups. Putting decent quality electronics in certainly won't do any harm. Once you get it working again you can decide if you want to mess around with the pickups. You might also want to do some basic electronic mods like shielding the controls (this is really cheap and easy to do).
25. Hi guys I play in a 3 piece rock band and every so often I think it would be pretty cool to play baritone instead of a more traditional bass. My reasoning is that it would be possible to cover most bass lines using the baritone but also play full chords every so often, which could help flesh out the sound of a 3 piece a bit. Anyone ever tried it, or have any thoughts?
