dv247 anyone bought an amp from them?
uncle psychosis replied to thebuckets's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've tried to buy stuff from DV247 on two occasions. Both times turned into "where's your order? well, erm, we're really sorry but we'll definitely be getting some tomorrow and it'll get out to you straight away. What? Someone told you that last week? And the week before that? And a fortnight previously? " etc. Once, I can forgive. Twice was unforgivable. If you can't get stock just say so. Making empty promises just pisses people off. -

I don't understand how they managed to make a surf green precision ugly -
Need help choosing a backup amp head please
uncle psychosis replied to Mudpup's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you have a PA system then don't bother with a backup amp. Just get a DI box/preamp instead. -
Got this 2007 Squier VM Precision for £50 on Monday, It's immaculate, there's not a mark on it. The neck had been given that much relief you coulda got a double decker under the action at the 12th fret After a few adjustments with the truss rod and a few days to let it settle, it's now looking and feeling great. The only downside is the Rosewood fingerboard, it woulda been better Maple, but for £50 I'll cope with that http://
£50? How'd you manage that? Looks very tasty, but I'd probably change the scratchplate myself.

What do you think of this band...
It's the girl with the pink guitar that kills it, the guy with the strat was doing OK, the lack of a drummer is never easy when you are young. Anyway the greatest cover is here
I've had the privilege of witnessing that man (and his musical partner) live and in person. Brilliantly mad. -
Thanks Mark, I'll give that a try. My mixer volume controls are knobs, not faders. I'll set them to the "unity" position and go from there.

Hey folks Can anyone help me out? I currently use a DHA preamp-DI and a mixer at home for practising. Thing is, I'm really confused as to the relationship between all the different gain/level/DI controls. I have about 7 ways of changing the volume and it makes my head hurt! The preamp has a gain, level, and DI level controls (amongst other things). The mixer has a gain and a volume on each channel, a well as a master volume and a separate volume for the controls. How do I work out where to set all the different levels for 'best practice'? Is there a "tried and tested" method? Yours in ignorance,

I normally like her but that performance did nothing for me. can't quite put my finger on it.
My bit of googling was unsuccessful. Any ideas anybody? It is a resource I would love to see and if I can find it I shall start one myself. Blending pedals is common enough among bass players.
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=796444

I use the large Dunlop Big Stubbies (3mm). Anything thinner just feels wrong on bass.
If I didn't play gigs with a band I probably wouldn't have an amp and speakers at all - I'd just use the Pod into my studio set up. I would hope that my live rig (Pod into a valve/digital hybrid amp) plus the range of basses I have at my disposal are versatile to cover pretty much any kind of music I want to play.
I don't use my amp at home at all. I just use a preamp into a mixer and play with headphones. I think I get a better sound than I would using a practice amp and it means I don't annoy my wife/baby. It also means that I can just take my preamp to gigs and DI it and get exactly the same results.

NEW or USED... discuss!
uncle psychosis replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
eBay doesn't give you the option of describing something as "as new", or "like new". I don't have an issue with this, we know what he means. If something is genuinly 'as new', it shouldn't be described as 'used', which is the only other choice, as it implies not 'as new', if that makes sense. Just read the whole description of any item, and bid accordingly. No-ones trying to dupe anyone. Life's too short i think to be giving this guy a hard time over that, especially when there's far easier targets on the bay.
I don't think "as new" and "used" are mutually exclusive. In this scenario I would always describe it as "used" and then make it clear in the description that it was as new. A "new" bass should come directly from a shop or a dealer and have warranty, etc. -
We should start a thread to indicate which pedals invert the phase.
I'm sure I have seen a thread or webpage about that somewhere. Maybe at The Gear Page. A bit of googling might find it for you?

Time wasters and window shoppers!!!
uncle psychosis replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I know. It's so difficult for me to post anything though. I don't have a box big enough to pack it in securely, and I'd have to take a day off work for collection.
Get it collected from your work? Or a mates/family members house? -

uncle psychosis replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I totally sympathise with you. People like that suck. If I negotiate a price with someone its because I intend to buy it. I guess, as well, this gives an insight into why so many guitar shops are crap when it comes to service---many of them will have a never ending stream of people who come in, try out loads of stuff, then piss off and buy it cheaper somewhere else (or not at all!) -
Hi folks I bought a bass from basschat last year and its time to change the (roundwound) strings. I am a total noob when it comes to strings and I'm really confused by the options. I really like the strings that are on it but the seller couldn't remember what they were. This is what he told me: "I remember the strings are DR but not very sure about the particular model, either LowRiders,Marcus Miller or Highbeams.Gauge I use is always middle,.45 on the G.Sorry I don't recall more..." Its a 5 string bass with 35" scale length, and I play everything from finger style motown to pretty hard punk with a pick. Looking at the DR website there are so many options I have no idea what to go for... Any suggestions? Do I need to buy specifically long strings for a 35" bass?
