1. Argh, just perfect but I need my 'ray 5 gone first. :-(
2. All PMs replied to. Thanks for all the messages and interest. I've also edited the main post to better reflect trade options.
3. Hello everyone, It is with great regret that I am listing my EBMM Stingray 5 for sale. 4 years ago I moved house, and temporarily stored all my belongings in my old room in my parents house. I never did move the Ray 5 back out, it's sat in it's case since then which I think says a lot about how much I play it. I just never got around the whole 5-string thing. My 4-string still gets played every day. When I first got it I played it a lot and tried to bond, so it has a few small marks. One on the b string side of the heel just along from the bridge and one tiny scratch on the headstock. Both of these are shown in the photos in this first post but I will get better photos of the imperfections when I go back to my mother's on Saturday. Apart from the one or two minor cosmetic marks mentioned it's a superb bass. It plays great with the sound, build quality, feel and consistency that MM are famous for. There's no hunting for a good one with MM like you do with Fender and there are no duds either, they're all amazing. It comes in its' original EBMM hardcase and has some of the case candy. It's currently strung with ancient EBMM Slinkys, I'd be happy to restring and get it set up professionally before you buy. I am the original owner and I distinctly remember picking it up on Valentine's Day 2004. It is serial number E01197, made 12/01/2004 and was notarized by EBMM in 2011 here. Sound Control in Newcastle ordered it via Strings and Things from EB themselves, this bass was literally built for me as at the time the maple board without the painted headstock was a difficult combo to find. I don't think the configurator on the EBMM site is still there, shame really. I live in Newcastle but I travel a lot with work. I can likely meet up in most major towns in the North East or Yorkshire and I travel to London a lot too. I would theoretically post it, but the onus would be on the buyer. I would be after the cash or there are a few items I would accept in trade or partial trade depending. EBMM Bongo 4 HH Ibanez Prestige or similar coffee table bass Warwick/Schecter type basses, big and growly Lakland DJ GK MB200 Tiny cab like a Crazy 8 or something 1RU Power amp 1RU Preamp The bass is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to withdraw.
4. Isn't there a chance that it's just the mids being more prominent making it sound as though there's less bass?
5. Newcastle/Durham here and very interested.
6. As is my answer to most DI questions, Countryman Type 85. It's perhaps not the planet's best, but it's the standard for good reason.
7. Although it wouldn't be appropriate/necessary with full range cabs like these, we've been successfully using the aux-fed subs method for some time now. The main advantage of aux fed is that it keeps 99.99% of LF content out of the tops. You don't need that by all accounts with these barefaced cabs, but all those of you wondering why or how you'd only use sub, the answer is you'd use an aux output. With regards to sub placemnt, we always have one top on a stand and then the other one stacked on top of both subs. Less power alley that way, and it keeps cabling neater. Granted, the LF output is unnoticeably higher on the sub side, but we just make sure to put them furthest from the bar!
8. I, too, use a mixer. A soundcraft compact to be exact. Bass in Ch1. PC in Ch2 (mp3s, youtube etc) ->Mixer -> Headphones out to listen and pc out to record.
9. I swapped a RB1001ii for a Fusion 500, not quite the MB500 but very similar. Sometimes I still miss the big old 1001 but the Fusion is so, so good that most of the time I'm happy I swapped. The 1001 was a little bigger and hefiter, it always sounded effortless, headroom for days. The lightweights are just as loud but IME this particular amp is not quite as full sounding and not quite as big in lows. Many people reckon this is a fault of lightweights generally but I'm not so sure, I've played plenty of full size amps that are nowhere near as full as the fusion.
10. I've got a nice Accucase bag from Thomann. Shoulder strap, carrying handles, tought and waterproof. Mine's a DJ type bag so there are a ton of pockets and I keep my micro head in the section meant for a laptop. I only have that bag and my basses and cabs so it's got my head, cables, picks, ear plugs, spare tuner, guitar stand, strap, wireless stuff, everything. A quick google says mine is discontinued, but there will be a replacement.
11. I assume that by bass bins you mean subwoofers? If so, then yes it would be fine, but it'll more than likely not be a usable sound. No mid range or top end to speak of, I'd imagine. Most subs stop being useful at a few hundred Hz, most bass players are producing stuff that's 3-5KHz or more. Try it though, you won't hurt anything as long as you don't go below 4 ohms total load.
12.
it always gets a similar rap to Behringer bass gear but, I've had my eyes opened.
Pfft, does it? It shouldn't like, Laney make some good stuff and they make some brilliant guitar stuff.

8 x 10's

I'm 25, fit as an ox and the land rover has more than enough room. I even have the prerequisite p-bass. But you won't catch me with one, far too heavy and rather crass. I know some styles of music calls for the wall-o-doom, but I'd feel silly playing in a tiny bar with a huge rig.
14. I may also be interested depending on colour and price. :-)
15. How grippt are the backs of these things? My pet hate are straps that get my shirt all in a bunch. I've currently got a leather one that is shiny, slick leather on both sides and all the ones I can find for a replacement have high-grip suede or whatever on the underside.
16. I know it's standard and not very helpful to recommend one's own amp, but have you heard the GK MBF? Now that I've mentioned it I believe that every major micro has been mentioned in this thread, so you're no closer. But seriously, the 'proper' tube preamp in the GK is the bee's knees. :-)
17. Another compact and midget user here, no plans on changing any time soon.
18. Bassist Answer: Leave it, the music is in the space. Bass Player Answer: An overdrive, octave or volume boost pedal.
19. Like many I had assumed it was tube. Whilst I'm sure it's still a fantastic product, I would be more tempted to plump for an Epi Valve Junior. I suppose the advantages to the Hoe-Tone / Hot-One are the extra features and the bass-specific voicing.
20. I own a 6.5", a 10", a 12" and a 15". Just one of each but that's plenty. And they all sound good, of course they do otherwise I wouldn't own them any more.
21. I've been after one of these for a while, someone commissioned a small class-D amp on this board a while back and it looked great. I think it may have been build by alienaudio? I didn't like the SWR and as much as I could use the power section of my GK I sometimes need a seperate amp. Ended up with a powered wedge, but I'd quite like the ability to have a separate amp and cab at some point.
22. I have no idea, if they end up around the £99 price point like the guitar heads then I think I'll be finding out.
