1. I've lost count of how many gigs I've done using just my bass, MXR M80 and the PA. Even if I take an amp, we take a feed from my pedalboard into the PA. There are problems in the system (broken equipment, user error, mismatched levels) somewhere if you can't get a great sound from just the sansamp into the desk. The same goes for you spinynorman, the DI on your portaflex is specifically made to do just what you asked it to, it should work and if it doesn't it's broken.
2. Yeah my tired old mixer at home can't give my countryman enough phantom power to give it huge headroom. It works flawlessly with our proper full band pa mixer though. My point is that a 'better quality box' may not actually solve your problem. A cheaper alternative to a new interface or a new di box is a phantom power supply, but an even cheaper solution than that is to just use a battery.
3. I would be all over this but it's too far away! Gah I was just down in Hemel Hempstead a few weeks ago!
4. Countryman on my pedalboard. I don't take a back up head, so I wouldn't dream of gigging without a DI box. Of course, if the band just had speakers on sticks for vocals and no 'proper' pa then I'd be stuck. Curious to hear what happens with your Behringer. My guitarist has the guitar version and other than the fact that it HATES phantom power, it gets used quite regularly when he doesn't have his amp or can't be bothered to mic it.
5. Oh I know, I know. You're talking to someone who owns a b7k amongst others but it does seem like a lot still. No offence meant if you build them Sibob.
6.
Like old girlfriends however

It's hard to decide what you really like without trying a few things, and even then, you can never be sure the next thing isnt going yo be better.
7. I know all pedals are the same, but the idea of charging £90 for a few pence worth of resistors and caps is crazy. You see those circuit diagrams and wonder why we bother don't you?
8. Or, I could buy an MXR M89 from the for sale forum here. I pick it up tomorrow! Thanks folks, but if that dod is worth keeping original then that'swhat I'll do. :-)
9. The Fafner is damned special and justifies it's price the same way an Aston Martin does. My point was that the Orange will have to sublime too.
10.
If that's at all true (I'm sure it's on their website) then looks like they are trying to justify, weight and price. For that money I'll just buy an EBS Fafner
Or a pre/power rack with more power than the Orange and any preamp you want. The Orange sounds great but these days it's about more than that. Loads of amps sound just as good and are smaller and cheaper. Screw the Fafner, for the same price as the sleeved version you can have an OTB 1000, a GK MB Fusion AND an Ampeg 350.
11. A tiny head and two small cabinets would cover pretty much anything.
12. If you're at all handy with a power tool or two then try any of the DIY designs from Greenboy or Bill Fitzmaurice.
13. My original was £20 on eBay though! Hmmmm, this requires some thought and some used pedal hunting.
14. Just check those speaker jacks mate. I know they were advertised before release as having combi jacks but they shipped with just speakons. Mine certainly just has standard speakon outputs and no jack facility. Having said that, mine isn't going anywhere. They are fantastic amps and whomever buys yours will love it.
15. Wow, here I has all set to take your advice, but the reissues are £90!! I'd considered putting it in a loop actually, but I am already really short of pedalboard space. Thanks for your help guys, I might just have to hold out for a used one.
16. I haven't met a cab yet that could handle everything my 1001 threw at it. You'll never find one that could take the 2001 at full pelt so good job you don't use the headroom. Have you tried the GK Neo 2x12 or 4x10 yet?
17. I have the Artec in mine and it sound great. I bought mine broken though, so I cant compare it tot the stock sound.
18. Hey folks. I'm very clumsy and I keep hitting my DOD 250 accidentally when going for my tuner. Because there's no led, the only way to tell if it's on is to play, not ideal at a gig. I'd like a light putting in so that I can tell when it's on the same as any other pedal. Can you recommend anyone to do this in the UK please? Just in case there are any problems violating the commercial user's policy: if you are able to do it for me, by all means please put your own name forward. Thanks, Jack
19. In 9 years of GK ownership I once blew a fuse on my 1001-II. Mr Gallien sent me a box of new fuses from the states. All running well here.
20.
Phil jones bass does some headphones , I have no experience of them but going off the quality of their amps and cabs I'd definitely want to try a pair if I was looking to replace my headphones.
They're bloody brilliant. They're what I came in here to recommend but for stage use I'd go in-ear.
21. I've had the Neo series, a 1x12" and a 2x12", they were both really good cabs and if I did it all again I'd just have 2 1x12"s. Moved to Barefaced the same time that I swapped the 1001-II for a MBF.
22. I'd go from the Ampeg in to the Hartke's effects return.
23. Ease of reach to the buttons?
