Hello! Yes, you will indeed run into an impedance problem with that set up. Unfortunately the minimum impedance that they amp can take is 4R as you've said, so that means that [b]either[/b] your 2x10 or 4x10 would be just fine. Unfortunately, running them [b]both together[/b] will result in a load of 2R67 for the head, which is very bad news. Some points to think about: Are you sure that you have the cabinets impedance right? I can't think of an Ashdown 2x10" that's 4R..... Can you provide model numbers of the amp and both cabs for us please? Will one of the cabs (probably the 4x10") be loud enough on it's own? Do you really need a 6x10"? If it's really looking bleak then there are plenty of other amps and cabs out there, no need to run two amps if you don't want to.

It's a small (class D sized) head that puts out around 100W at 8R and 150W at 4R. Huge array of sounds with 4-band (2-band semi parametric) eq, boost, stereo chorus, low cut, contour. More IO than you would ever need too, with 2 DIs and effects loops, aux in, blah blah blah. The ultimate studio amp basically. -

A few factors at play I think. For one, not all cabinets are the same. A 1x10" can outperform a 2x10" if it has more than twice the sensitivity, or the excursion. Second is tone. I know when I play my stingray fingerstyle and aim for a fat, studio sound then I'm going to need more amp then when I'm playing grindy punk with a precision and a pick.

Two things I think here. Firstly, and mainly. Please, don't DIY something like this. In terms of disasters, you've got everything from it breaking on you mid song, through damaging your amp, right the way up to death and everything in between. Secondly, I think you may be confusing active and passive DI boxes with speaker and intrstrument level DI boxes. DI boxes can be instrument level, line level, speaker level or more than one of those. And any of these types of DI box can be active (requires electricity to work) or passive (doesn't).

There are a few DIs that offer that feature, my favourite (and tbh, the only one I'd trust to actually take a speaker load) is the [url="http://www.countryman.com/type-85-direct-box"]Countryman Type 85[/url]. With that being said, they range in price all the way from [url="https://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_die_dibox_passiv.htm"]Millenium[/url] to [url="https://www.thomann.de/gb/suhr_reactive_load.htm"]Suhr[/url]. Just be aware that most (all?) valve amps need a load to work, so if the DI box doesn't have a load then you will still need a cabinet. Some (the Suhr is one) present a dummy load, so you can run your amp without a cabinet.

May I recommend the [url="http://www.proel.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=1_8_42_164_538"]Proel ones[/url]? The Force ones which are a cool blue/grey twill finish. I have a 3U for my bass rig and we liked it so much we got another for our new mixer.

@SmoothHoundChris, are the antenna replaceable at all? I have the need to mount the receiver in the back of my rack, and the signal is rubbish back there. Is it possible to get any kind of antenna extender? -
Defintely check out the classifieds on here if you can. We're all an honest bunch and I'm sure any seller would answer your questions honestly. There's a TC combo for sale in the classifieds now, or there was that Genz rig (a 2x10" combo and 2x10" cab) from a while back that would see you through any gig. Thanks! Quite excited to get one of these actually, it'll be my first Sansamp. I know the unit is already done and I know it was done for Geddy not me, but I realyl can't help thinking that one (or two, if you wanted trs and xlr) more outputs on the back for a 'blend' output would have been such a useful feature. Or even a switch the does what the jumper will on the back of the unit. Edit- Just seen [url="https://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_sml_21.htm"]this[/url] which claims to combine 2 line level signals.

Thought as much. I'm looking at moving to a pedal board centred around the GK as my rig and then a FR800 for the odd time I need backline. Would be really curious to see how it works out for you.

I have been doing a lot of research into the GK Plex. The 1/4" on that is balanced and really hot for driving their powered cabinets. Might be worth a look? Is this for a FR800?

However I've recently been using my pedalboard to go straight to the desk as my band have stopped using backline. So I'm selling off some of my amp collection... to fund a GK Plex preamp! Both the MBF and the MBE are in mint condition, the MB500 has a shinier, flimsier coating though and so is showing some scratches. All of these amps work flawlessly though. I have the footswitch and cable for the MBF (I bought that one new) but not for the MB500 as I purchased it used and the seller didn't have them. Prices include UK postage, but if you want to collect or trial I'm about ten minutes north of Newcastle. I'm also happy to meet up or deliver within a reasonable distance. Cash is king, but I will accept trades, please feel free to PM me with offers. I am however particularly looking for a GK Plex, a nice powered wedge and an EUB.
