1. Hi, Decided I need to move down to a single amp with the demise of my gigging band, and doesn't look like I'll be out gigging again anytime soon so both will be making way for a single small head. I've been so impressed with the tone of this amp that it's likely to be a Little Mark 3 or similar. I bought this about a year ago on the basschat market place and have barely used it. I think 1 rehearsal and 1 gig and that's about it. It sounds great, the VPF and VLF filters really do add some rich quality to the tone and a nice dose of valvey punch. The amp has a nice 'heft' to the sound that can be missing in Class D amps, especially when utilising these filters. It good cosmetic condition, couple of marks on the top that are visible in the pics. Asking £140 posted to UK address, or will consider some kind of trade for this and my flightcased Orange Bass Terror 500 against a small class D such as a LM3, GB streamliner, something of that nature. I'm in Cornwall if you wanted to try out. 2.
Hard to believe this is still here!
Considering later MIJ reissue Fenders are being advertised around £700, absolutely.
 3. Great video! http://youtu.be/ycvJHQUqU1M
 4. I heard the JV's were based on 50's/60's and the SQ's more on 70's, so that would back up your thinking ted. Certainly the tuners are more 70's than the elephant-ears on the JV's, and the bridge on the JV's is 50's/60's style threaded. The SQ's always seem to have much stronger grain pattern thanks to the Sen Ash bodies. I know JV's did use Sen Ash but I think this may have been earlier on, with the Fender badged JV's. Certainly my JV '57 has nowhere near this grain and I think the body is alder. The SQ's also seem to have the most delicious three tone coloring too, plenty of red in there. I'd love to try one, I'd love to buy this if I could justify it!

 6. I'd always choose a good gig over a good pay day. I know exactly what the OP means and we have had some very loyal venues payout when they have been quite sparse. Always makes you feel bad. If it's a chance to earn mega-bucks then it's a more difficult decision, but generally I do this because I enjoy it. If it's sh*t, then I don't, and £40 in my pocket doesn't change that.
 7.
There's good and bad Squiers though. There's good and bad Fenders too....but overall, there's more good ones than bad. I guess there's a little bit of overlap in today's range; and if you take into account secondhand too, the early Japanese Squier stuff was/is better than certain Fenders. I've limited experience with them but I've always been able to tell from playability, but not put my finger on why it should be so, that the Fender was the better instrument.
Are we talking about differentiating the two just in terms of pricing and quality though? Squier has changed in recent years from essentially a couple of budget copies of US Fender models to a range all in itself. There are cheap and nasty Squiers kicking around today, but the Classic Vibe series are pretty much as good as any mid-price Fender. Which leads me on to my point, isn't a Chinese 'Fender' still just a copy in itself? Yes ok they build them to a slightly higher price point and they've used a Fender logo on the headstock, but essentially it's still just a cheaper copy of what is coming out of Corona.
 8.
Squier(Japan) is Fender though........ The Japanese Squiers really were Fenders (IMO) - I'm sure they randomly decided whether to stick Fender or Squier badges on them
For a time I think this was pretty much correct. I know the JV domestic series had different price points with the domestic range badged as Fender and the exports marked as Squier. I've played both Fender and Squier badged MIJ E-Series (1984-89 ish) and they were almost exactly the same spec and almost identical to play, with the Squier slightly edging it. I guess it depends how authentic you really want to be- are the MIJ's strictly Fenders? MIM? Chinese? Strictly speaking there's no reason a Chinese Fender should be any more 'a Fender' than a Chinese Squier.
 9. Pestie bought my awesome Silver Series P bass, the lucky man, and the whole transaction was very pleasant from start to finish! Easy to deal with, prompt payment, no hassle. Cheers Mike!
 10. My brother in law has just finished his first year Marine Biology degree. He didn't attend a single lecture in the first year because he didn't need to- lectures were all published on-line and a lot of his contact with tutors was via email. He was pretty annoyed about it, as on average it was costing 9k a year to attend, he couldn't see where the money was going.
 11. I like a low action and I always prefer a 7.25" radius and vintage frets. However, vintage frets can be quite tall unless they are well played in. Obviously the taller the fret the higher the string has to be from the fretboard. Ask a decent luthier to take a bit off the top of the frets and set the nut height. With vintage frets it can help if they don't try and crown the frets to a point- just flatten the profile a bit and level them out. You'll likely be able to get the strings a bit lower after that, with less relief too. With a decent fret job you can set the neck much straighter. I've had it done on a couple basses including my Road Worn P, which can get a crazy-low action. Too low!
 12. I've agonised over this, as essentially this is one of the most playable Precisions I've ever owned. However, I'm no longer playing as much as I used to, and I get incredibly guilty seeing basses sat in the rack, not being played. Therefore, it's still a bit of a 'feeler' thread at the moment. If there is not much interest i may well hang on to it. This is a wonderful example of the 1991-92 Made In Japan Squier 'Silver Series'. It's 3 tone sunburst, I think the body is Basswood, with Rosewood board and an easy-playing, 40mm wide neck. This is my second Silver Series- the first being a Jazz- and the reason I bought this is because the Silver Series have 40mm nut width. Having always felt that Precision necks are a touch too wide, and Jazz basses a touch too slim, these are perfect for me. It is in very good condition for it's age- there are very minor chips to the lacquer finish on the back, with the worst being by the neck pocket which has chipped a bit of paint away. See pics. Other than that, it's in great nick for a 25 year old bass. It's very lightweight- my bathroom scales bring it up at 7lb 6oz on it's own, I'm not sure how accurate they are, but using the weigh-myself-with-and-without-the-bass-method, it comes in around 7lb 8oz. Either way, it's comfortably under 8lbs and it balances well. It has been mildly upgraded- the Silver Series basses originally came with ceramic pickups, which actually suit the Jazz version quite well but they were lacking on the P. These have been upgraded with a set of USA pickups from an American Deluxe P bass from the Basschat market place. The wiring loom has been upgraded with a new KiOgon loom. The pickguard is a Bravewood item. It originally came with quite a bad Tort plate, and as I was having a bass commissioned by John at the time, I asked if he'd do me a non-relic pickguard for this bass. He obliged! As far as I'm aware, he buys the sheets of Cellulose tort from a supplier and cuts them and bevels them himself. This is why the pick guard has the vintage correct 30-degree bevel angle, to show more of the layers. Softens it all and makes it a bit more vintagey. It cost me IIRC £70, and is well worth it. See pics! I still have the original pickups and wiring, and I am happy to include these in the sale, or I can refit them if you rather it stayed original, and I'll reduce the price a touch (as I can then sell the USA pickup and KiOgon loom). Given these instruments usually ago for £200-£300 on the bass chat market place I'm going to ask £300. This is in part due to it's condition, but also because of the small upgrades which I do feel have added value, unlike some mods. UK postage will be included in the sale, it will not come with a case but will be well protected. For an additional £20 I can also include a Black Rat hard case which is in fairly good condition. The only thing I'm interested in trading (with cash either way) is a decent quality Precision bass neck. Paypal is ok. 13.
For me there finest record. Bass playing from Mr X. which I believe is Ernie Mckowne from various later Incognito fame. It's just fantastic playing. http://youtu.be/y9DHDTu0jT0
Although Emergency on Planet Earth is my personal fave Jamiroquai album, the playing by Mr. X on this song is unreal. Ever since you posted this last year I've listened to it more and more. Zender's version is good, and it grooves, but this is just effortless in comparison.
 14. From my comment on another thread... Call this a guilty pleasure if you will, but it's a brilliant song. And a one-hit wonder from my youth! Well, they had another couple songs, but they don't count in my head. http://youtu.be/nhaURq_g6Jw Has anyone mentioned Ray Parker Jr. yet?
 15. Bought a set of gotoh's from Chris, nice easy transaction!
 16.
Just been re-listed and gone up by £100?!
Interesting sales tactic.
 17.
Females can be fickle. If they don't like certain songs they're not going to sing it. Blue
Casual sexism thrown in for good measure. How about; Crazy in love-Beyoncé Fancy- Iggy Azelea Bang Bang- Jessie J Bleeding Love- Leona Lewis Where love lives-Alison Limerick Chandelier-Sia Something kinda ooh-Girls Aloud That one Bastille covered... Rhythm of the night-Corona. Or go for the fun angle.... Boys boys boys-Sabrina. I always wanted to do a cover of China Black's 'Searching'. Not a female-fronted song, but it's a proper tune. (One for the one-hit wonder thread!)

 19. Bit of a long shot... I have a 2010 Fender Jazz bass neck from a 'Classic '60's' series MIM bass, the non-roadworn series! Here's a link to the model: https://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-60s-jazz-bass-olympic-white/15782?gclid=CNn2rNKWntACFRAz0wodT5kP0g Basically I find Jazz necks a bit too thin for me, so I'm looking to trade for a P bass neck, Maple or rosewood, of equal quality. The neck is currently on a Jazz build, so has been tastefully 'relic'd' to match the style of the bass. See build thread here, with pictures of the neck: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/271091-stack-knob-jazz-build/page__pid__2884371#entry2884371 The neck has also recently had a full fret job and nut height cut at my luthier, which is making it play very smooth. I'm torn between selling the instrument whole, splitting parts, or keeping it with an alternative neck, hence the trade offer in the first instance. Pic below! Cheers
