1. Yep as others have said that's a highway one. Never played one, but I understand they were a bit of a Mexican/USA hybrid and at £600 second hand that's a bit steep in my opinion considering the new price when they came out. As a poster above mentioned, you would expect to pay £600 for an Am Std, so good of the seller to return you the cash. Saw one in my local music shop before Xmas last year for £350 second hand.
2. Cue Blue going apeshit.... Talk about click-bait 😄
3. Who was the famous bassist who when asked about playing a 5-string, said something along the lines of 'you shouldn't play a 5-string until you've mastered a 4-string' how long does that take? 'About 30 years'. Just wondering how old you'd have to be to play this beast.
4. Check in the neck pocket and under the pickups. Is the colour the same? It should be a poly finish, which would be very thick. If it had been refinished, it would be in a thinner coat which should be easier to spot. Try giving it a good going over with t-cut or autoglym and see if it's just a case of needing a bit of TLC?
5.
We usually start slow songs slowly, then bring them up to the tempo of the rest of the set by the end of the song
Drummers, eh!
6.
I've got one of these and they are excellent!
Me too, and me too!
7. I had the neck reprofiled on my RW Precision, again at great cost! Well worth it though.
8. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Went through a phase of listening to them and aside from one folky acoustic album, every album sounded the same. Still liked 'em though.
9. I've owned a Trace combo and currently use a AH350smx head and trace 4x10 at rehearsal room. Very punchy, very loud, but unfortunately has an issue somewhere with either a cone or the amp in that it sounds distorted very easily. I can get the punch and volume with my gigging orange bass terror but there is something about that richness... Wouldn't Ashdown doing Class D stuff be the natural Trace successor?

40hz Feedback

Bought a Markbass head off Simon, a true gent! Very quick and easy deal, great communication all the way, it arrived when he said it would and its faultless. Looking forward to gigging the bad boy! Cheers Simon 😀
11.
I have bought and traded basses with David. He is a top bloke and very easy to deal with. His prices and trade-in deals are also very fair.
I'll second that, I think his trade in prices are very good.
12.
'You're in a class all to yourself' = Yer sh*te
Yes! Can I add: "You guys were really tight" = I was bored and barely listened.
13. Slightly different to the thread subject, but I find its always fun being accosted by a fellow bass player at a gig, much as I love you all!! "You had a really good tone" = You're an average player. "I play bass..." = Please stand here and listen to me talk about my gear when you should really be helping to pack up. "Ah a P bass... I actually play a Jazz..." = I think I'm Jaco. 😊
14.
Synthwave is so cool even the Hoff is in on it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTidn2dBYbY
Lamborghini Diablo lurking menacingly in the background!
15. David is a great guy, and only stocks quality gear. First-class customer service too. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another bass from him. Plus he loves Fenders!
16.
^^^ Pics? I can't see 'em!
Internet has been dropping out all day, bloody storm! Should be up now. Also-Flickr, least friendly upload site ever, apart from photobucket. Why don't they make this stuff user friendly?
17.
Chienmortbb's post has reminded me...any further pics, cameltoe?
Yes! Well, it's been a busy old time at Cameltoe HQ. Last update was the bass getting stuck in the rayburn after I tried to induce some lacquer checking. Well, i managed to get the worst creases out, and have been able to cover up the worst of the damage with some pinpointed relicing. The only downside, is I was hoping to go for a light relic finish, and now I'm having to go down the heavy relic route. Ah well. Some areas have had to be slightly overdone to make it all tie together, which isn't ideal, but I'm fairly happy with the result. So, here is the body, post relic'ing. This is the 4th or 5th loom I've bought from John, and they are consistently excellent. Now, another problem reared it's ugly head. I don't know who was in charge when they routed this thing, but along with the wonky neck holes, they also routed the bridge pickup all to c*ck. A standard J bridge pickup cover won't fit in there, as the 'ears' are too wide for the routing hole. After much deliberation, and a 'can't be assed to fill and re-route' attitude, I figured the easiest way round this was to cut off the 'ears', and glue them back in a slightly narrower position to allow fitment to the body. I also heated up the plastic with a soldering iron to melt the joint a bit, to make it look a tad neater. Well, it's worked. I just need to remember to keep the cover if I decide to swap pickups in the future! I've relic'ed my own hardware, using the one night in vinegar, one night in salt method. The bridge (everything aside from the saddle screws, that is) I relic'ed using the 9v battery method. Turned it all a nice black hue. The bridge cover gained a slight pink hue around the edges, and has actually been eaten away a little bit by the acid just by the F logo. Relic'ed the mint guard by baking in a tray of coffee for 20 mins (it goes floppy and shrinks!) and attacking with a bit of sandpaper to take the shine off the front. Couldn't resist a mock-up! The neck now needs all the tuner holes filling and re-drilling, as they are well out of line for the tuners I'm planning to use. I think it originally had a set of the big-plate 50's and early 60's style tuners, the hexagonal shaped ones. I did try and acquire some from the marketplace but on reflection I think I'll redrill and fit the spare ones I have from an old 1984 MIJ P bass, which are the later 60's style with the big back plate. I'm also going it continue to try and get some lacquer checking going on! I've left the body overnight in the freezer, then put it right by the fireplace, then back in the freezer. Still nothing! I'm going to resort to the air duster method. Watch this space!
18. Hi All, Pair of each for sale. Fairly little use, both were fitted in my Orange Bass terror for a couple of weeks before I reverted back to ECC81's. Tung Sols had quite a dark sound, EHX quite gritty and driven sounding, to my ears anyway! Both a huge improvement over the cheap, woolly Chinese valves that come as standard in the OTB. These seem to be around £10 per valve for both the EHX and Tung Sol, IIRC I paid around £25 for each pair delivered, so I'll offer them up at £10 +2.50 p&p, half the new price. If you want all 4, I'll do it for £20 delivered. Still in the original small boxes. Pics! Hi All, Decent enough little EQ pedal. Built like a tank. Supposedly Boss clones, someone else might be able to shed more light. Not been used for a few years, the metal plate has worked itself loose so just needs sticking back, I haven't had the time. Other than that, it is what it is! Free smiley-face EQ setting too! With box and instructions £17 delivered to UK.
