Here's some shots of the pearl white Sterling 5. As you can see it is mint and still has the bar code sticker on the rear - I'm louth to remove it The rear of the headstock isn't so mint but the lack of neck dive transforms it's playability: Peter

I've been waiting on fitting some chrome Hipshot Ultralites to my pearl white Sterling 5 before I put some images up on this thread. I fitted them this week and so long as you don't look at the rear of the headstock the bass is now perfect. The dive I experienced was probably down to the lightness of the body as much as the heaviness of the neck (which has the same dimensions as the Stingray 5). Anyhow I weighed it today. 8.2 lbs. Result!!

I owned one and sold it to someone on here. Beautiful Jazz and a bargain too.

I was chatting with our Rhythym guitarist about the difficulties we're having in getting a definite song list set up for our band. Months have passed and we feel no nearer to any definite direction.The lead guitarist (who is very good) is also a noted artist with a successful career of work behind him. My friend was saying that he considers himself more a technician than an artist, preferring to have a list of songs to learn and bring along to practice, not really enjoying improvisation, solos or 'on the spot' 'jams'. On reflection I realise I'm exactly the same. The lead guitarist is so very different and brings new songs/ditches songs you've spent hours learning at zero notice. So what sort of bass player are you? An artist or a technician or perhaps something else? Peter

Dave will probably be along in a bit but I think the 112's are working their way through the last of the prototype stages and I'm not sure if prices are up for them yet. I think he's going to do them is 3 'builds', 3 way, 2 way and single driver. Some prototypes will be at Bass day in manchester and London. The prices aren't 'economy' prices but when you factor in the build quality, finish, components (great crossovers) and of course, sound quality I think they're hard to beat. Dave's a mate and yes I'm biased but I'm also in a position to know what a talented and nice guy he is. Peter

I love basses made from beautiful woods. But, the aluminium bass showed pretty damn clearly what a lot of people, including some worthy luthiers have been saying for some time. That the 'woody' tone is little associated with wood and much more with a string and a pickup As for nut material?????? Peter

I was just reacting to the perceived whiff of slightly racist attitude. My stuff, mustn't bite. I'd have thought that EB would have been into well dodgy territory employing illegal immigrants? However good that may be (and prepared to work for lower wages).

Hang on a minute, are we saying that all 'real' Americans and English folk are white Anglo Saxons? The US and United Kingdom are multi cultural societies and US citizens include a fair few people who originated in Mexico I would imagine. I actually reckon that EBMM quality is higher and more consistent than Fender but they are also more expensive. Being American they are far less likely to respond to criticism in any constructive way. It reminds me of the now non existent British motorcycle industry who had the same attitude, and died in the face of Japanese competition.

Well, well, well. We do learn all the time don't we. ACG's are great basses but I acknowledge that not everyone likes the filter pre amp. It takes a whole new approach to creating a tone as you like it. Maybe get lag to put a John East U Retro in it? Peter

[/quote] If it's labelled as being made in that Taiwanese factory I'd be interested to know where the label is or how you got this information? TRB1006's and TRB1005's were made there I believe but they are a long way from a TRB6 and even further remote from a 6P. I'd really like a 34" scale TRB5, may place an ad in the wanted section hmmm...... Peter

Hmmm an early 90's 6P from Korea? Seems odd to my knowledge. I love my 6P and I'm fairly sure it's Japanese made and thought they all were. Mine's a 2EQ. I'd like to know more about these basses although I've owned 5 TRBs over the years including my 1st 'real' bass a new TRB4 Mk1 bought in 1995. Peter
