1.
I can't vouch for the Marleaux, but get the right builder and the right wood and a light 6 string is all good. I only play 6's now really and weight has been a big factor in finding the right bass. My Roscoe Fretless 6 is 9.1lbs and my RIM Marseer 6 is 8.6lbs. Both very light for 35" scale pro instruments (both lighter than an average Fender jazz 4). When Robbie built the RIM I had the option of having it chambered as well which would of made it even lighter!! Since I've been using a Comfort Strapp as well all basses feel about 1lb lighter than they really are! Shep
Thanks Shep! Someone recommended Roscoe to me recently, I'm not so keen on the shape but they have a spec that suits me well. I'll have to look up RIM I've never heard of those!! Does chambering bring up balance issues? I've gotta get me one of those comfort Strapp's just got to work out the length I need lol
2. I've just come into possession of a pearwood/sutkina bodied Marleaux consat custom 5 and its 7.7lbs (by the bathroom scales!). I don't even notice its there, i haven't had this much comfort playability-wise since I owned a Kubicki!! 6 strings have been a write off for me after my experience of a solid thru neck maple Cort A6, I also injured my back in a tyre factory a while back making it difficult for me to play anything heavy. I enjoyed playing a six and liked the C string for chords even if I did use it rarely, ultimate versatility is my goal! Does anyone own a Marleaux Consat Custom 6 on BC? What does it weigh??
3. If anyones worried about the B string theres plenty of reviews on their website from various magazines etc http://www.marleaux-bass.de/testbericht_co..._custom_50.html Think Musicman Stingray 5 or better.
4. I bet Hellborg finds Stevens (a male whoopie goldberg) really irritating but keeps getting forced by Warwick to play with him. Whats this about new Warwicks having massive necks?? The streamers i've played are well comfy and have thin necks - they have been only 4 strings though. EDIT: Oh yeah I like the chrome finish too! lol, I wanted one years back for a Judas Priest tribute band, solar angels! etc
5.
MB1. ...Stealth Mode on this? Turns into a Six string semi acoustic at the flick of a switch? Cool! BUMP!
Stealth Mode at the flick of a light switch. I've got a semi acoustic! probably why I haven't hunted down that setting so far...it'll be there though
6. Interesting bridge, what does it do? Added tension/string height?
7. Story of my life as a bassist: I was content with a Cort A4 after I got it defretted by overwater but it lacked aggression, I owned a fretted A6 for the B (also fab but lacking aggression). Now I love my Marleaux Fretless, flawless... but its not a guitar . I no longer play bass in a band so although fretless makes it much more fun, I enjoy playing guitars alone. I also loved my Bravewood '56 Precision being a rocker but as I can only afford one bass at a time - it really required that bridge jazz pickup at times.
8. I prefer fours but I can't deny when its drop d tuning and I can rest my thumb on a 5th string, its a pretty damn good feeling! 34" scales only though
9. Best finish IMO
10.
I owned this for a while and can confirm it really is an amazing intrument. I always liked the 'Egyptian eye' in the grain at the top of the body too Good luck with the sale, whoever gets this won't be diappointed Graham
Thanks for the post Graham, its got a lovely vintage jazz punch to it. Sadly its getting more difficult to find a decent high end fretless on BC there was a lovely Sadowsky metro a while back I was hunting for until this. I really like the markings on the lower horn - the facings a beaut but i've never heard of Pearwood before!!
11. Always wanted one in that finish with a rosewood board
12.
Ok ive had a couple of festive bevvies, but oli, if you fancy a straight swap with my 78 jazz id be up for it. As i have said to you before, i will always take the jazz back if things dont work out. Merry christmas
Merry Christmas to you too Chris! Its a brilliant offer, but for medical reasons I can only play basses 9lbs or under and this is a gem for that. I'm not really keen on trades as I need the money and I don't think anything could top the Marleaux - I'd consider big part exchanges for modern Musicman/Fender/Squier gear however. Thanks again though
13. My Last Bass. I part-exchanged up for this recently with my Genz Benz Rig to play and also, so I could post it should I be in financial trouble and I am, so... Here's an Excellent Condition Marleaux Consat Custom Fretless 5. I played one of these against the Overwaters at Penrith Guitar Fayre a couple of years back and they've always stuck in my mind: Made in 2007 No.995 Milk Chocolate Pearwood Facing Sutkina Body Five Piece, Maple/Ebony Six Bolt Neck Lined Ebony Slab Fingerboard with Zero Fret 34" Scale 45mm Nut 18.5mm String Spacing over a flattened 'C' neck profile 7.7lbs/3.5kg Weight Schaller Manchineheads Marleaux custom bridge Bartolini Soapboar Pickups Custom Glockenlang Marleaux 3 Band Preamp Active/Passive Bypass Switch Professional Setup with Elixir 40-125 Gauge Strings High Quality Roktek Warwick Rockbag Pics: http://s1031.photobucket.com/albums/y373/S...e/Music%20Gear/ Soundclips: http://www.marleaux-bass.de/marleaux_soundsample.html Plays anything and most importantly nails Jaco. Its also possible to get that precision tone with cuts out the nasally 'mwah' which gets tiresome when playing root notes. Slaps nice n crisp too with the ebony board. An easy stretch for someone with small hands like myself, ultra defined B string as to be expected from something of this custom quality - £2600 NEW IN THE UK!! Zero Fret too, so theres no unwanted rattling and vibrations from the strings against the wood near the nut - had problems with this on other fretless' i've owned. Flawless. 14. Love the side shot of the back!
15. I'll never get over how good those Tronic VM's looks. Saw one last year, still the best looking bass around for me.
16. Kubicki, best slap bass - check Vail Johnson
17. The only thing about this bass you could possibly fault is the marmite finish. I'm not a graphite colour fan but I know this is a very good deal and would easily beat a fender (even though I love them). I like the colour in the Avatar however, looks awesome under the lights!
18.
Hi,Are you looking for a guitar or amp,i have loads of gear here i need to clear. Cheers Harv
PM'd
19. I like dingwalls, just bugs me they couldn't make a pickup with was diagonal and in line with the bridge (if you know what i mean). Really wanna try one.
20. I want this bass, only trade fodder though.
