  1. It’s a very big ‘if’ though. But assume it’s real, you’d still have to be mad, buy from a vintage dealer you have expertise that build your trust. You also have written assurances re provenance and legally enforceable comeback if those prove to be incorrect (the former helps your resale value considerably). But even given this, folks here who’ve dabbled in the vintage market will know how murky it is even among reputable dealers. But buy a 50’s Fender from Cash Converters?
  2. Still very much a fan, but don’t need musicians to be perfect to like their music. His early trajectory was selfish in the extreme, there’s arguments either way as to how that can be justified, and he’s not alone by any means. For me, having seen him as the archetypal hippy it was interesting to read the book and to see the other side, and from there to see the 60s and 70s in better perspective. Love Zuma also
  3. Friend who loves NY got really whizzed off with me for suggesting he read the book when, having started it, he realised who NY really was. Hardly my fault really
  4. I got the first time what you got the second. A guy prepared to flip everyone to get what he wants. The trail of damage he left in the late 60s and early 70s was pretty sad. I think the book makes clear how much he believes karma got him, and how
  5. If I didn’t know better I’d think some of this was Klaus Nomi
  6. This made me smile https://magazine.vinylmeplease.com/magazine/trans-album-so-controversial-label-sued-neil-young-over-it/
  7. Yep, I’ve ready Shaky, hell of a read. Album’s way ahead of its time, hints of Air, nod to Kraftwerk. Hard to believe it’s the same guy who did Harvest?
  8. Had it been released 25 years later by a pair of Frenchmen it might have been a hit
  9. Or Fairlight perhaps?
  10. Yep, there now, didn’t see the vocoder coming, sounds like early Trevor Horn production
  11. Ha ha, just listening to Trans for the first time and from the first harmonies thought ‘This sounds like Yes’
  12. Not to annoy Dad, but because it's a truly great vocal performance of a truly great song
  13. An improvement on 'rank'
  14. Objective discussion welcome, given the breadth of styles he’s recorded, I defy anyone to say there’s none of his music that they like, or at least appreciate in musical/historic terms. His lyrics in songs like Alabama and Ohio still resonate with current US politics, perhaps less so after yesterday however
  15. Virtuoso 5-string DB clip that has nought to do with the thread alert
  16. You’ve always got something positive to add
  17. Bashdown....? Asfaced....? Baredown....? Bareas.....? The world awaits with baited breath
  18. Amazingly No, Kent. And Mrs Beedster has hoofed it for the day also, which means me, the kids and the dog are going to be listening to a lot of Neil Young - After the Goldrush up next, then I'm going to explore some of the stuff on the Guardian's upper echelon that I'm not yet familiar with
  19. On The Beach currently on rotation loudly chez Beedster, glorious day, all the doors open, warm sunshine flooding in, kids calm, dog snoozing in the sun. Life could be worse
  20. That classic from Steve Coogan "What's your favourite Beatles album?" "Best of the Beatles"
  21. Great idea. Anything that stops the ‘bad courier experience’ threads here gets my vote Good luck
  22. Agreed, perhaps more a provocation than legitimate ranking?
  23. Yep, totally agree re On The Beach. I think the rankings are for no other reason than to start threads like this
  24. Should clarify that those are their ages, not their names
  25. My girls, seven and nine, voted for them without any prompting from me, which I take as a good sign. They’re still a bit confused as to what a Rickenbacker is however
