  3. Ha ha, that serves him right. I bid on a bass a few years back and every time I placed a bid, another few small bids went on until it exceeded mine and then stopped. This carried on for a few hours on an otherwise quiet Sunday afternoon during which I became increasingly confident that I was bidding against the seller. Of course, he put in a pretty big bid with about 3 minutes to go expecting me to go higher but I didn't, just sat there waiting for the inevitable 2nd Chance Offer. Amazingly, that landed about 4 minutes after the auction finished, and was at the price the seller had pushed it up to. He said the 'bidder' had emailed him immediately informing him that 'he had put in a bid by accident and didn't have any money'. So lucky me could have it at the sale price Mr No Money had bid it up to (allegedly). I said I would take it at the value of the bid I had on the bass when Mr No Money started bidding earlier that day, about £200 lower, at which point seller started to get really angry with me and said I shouldn't bid on things if I'm not prepared to buy them, and furthermore that I was morally obliged to buy it at the level of my final bid or what's the point in eBay? Made my evening, and I enjoyed the Sunday roast so much more as the result
  4. I now own four Fender-alike bitsas that collectively cost me less than £1500 to put together over a few years (1xP, 1xP/J FL, 1xJ, 1xJ FL) They are very high quality instruments and I'd rate them all at good Fender MIA standard or above (especially when you consider that they have Warmoth and Musikraft necks). I would like to still have my old 4001c64, I would like to still have my old Modulus Flea, but having sold so many basses, I'm now quite happy with what I have. Moreover, I can't sell any of them really (I'm kinda trying with one) because their value on paper is way way way lower than their value to me as instruments. So, in short, I have no seller's remorse at all. Surprisingly.
  5. Nice one! All as it should be Steve
  6. No conspiracy, the answer’s a lot more straight forward
  7. So not unlike most politicians? In music I like the human voice as an often extraordinarily expressive and evocative lead instrument as opposed to a conveyor of language or meaning, so Jon’s approach works for me. I think it’s been mentioned previously in this thread or elsewhere, but if you write down the lyrics to most songs you quickly realise that they’re nothing but complete bollocks anyway
  8. Once you’ve played guts........
  9. Why? It’s quite a high price for what it is at a time when folks are not inclined to take financial risks. Basses priced correctly here sell quickly, always have.
  10. Ah, I see tube pres are OK Gotta be Mesa Walkabout, and M-Pulse 600, and BB750, and Titan V12
  11. Don’t they have tube pres?

  16. I’m gonna buy the CD and give it a go through my tube hifi and ‘big’ speakers, that’s a ritual usually reserved for Nina Simone, Miles Davis, The Band and early Tom Waits (and Tribe Called Quest if the mood takes me). I’m mostly headphones these days So what have I learned? Don’t trust Apple playlists Thanks for your help Micheal
  17. Absolutely! Considering that this time last week I couldn’t find a track by Yes that I liked the whole way through, finding a whole album - almost - that does the trick is progress for sure! Perpetual Change seemed a weakfish song at first listen, might just be the stand out track now, the changes are pretty special
  18. Now’s possibly the time to get creative with that mono overhead
  19. Slight revision, the whole album except The Clap, WTF is it doing there? Version if album I’m listening to has it twice also. Rest of album is sublime
  20. I’d go with the courier with 95% rather than that with 40% though
  21. No, most couriers have good systems that occasionally go wrong. These guys have stinky poo systems that occasionally go right.

  23. So I've found an album by Yes that I like pretty much the whole way through, appropriately enough The Yes Album. Funny thing is that while I find JA's voice a bit flowery in later albums, there are times on this album when it could almost be Sting (and did I impose my perception onto the music, or are some of the drums and guitars even a little Police-ish.....). There's also hints of early Plant in there as well. It's a bit 60's flower power at times, but that's no bad thing. As per the post above, Yours in no Disgrace and Starship Trooper stand out, I've Seen All The Good People is pretty decent, the almost southern boogie from 3.30ish was certainly not signalled by the rest of the song. One thing about this album is that whilst I prefer the songs and arrangements musically, the bass appears nothing like as prominent a part of the Yes thing; it's high in the mix and very well played of course, it's just not the key instrument it became later. It's been worth the journey, thanks y'all
  24. That's the thing, there's this idea of a quality:quantity ratio that assumes that a poor double album would be a better single album, i.e., keep the 'better' songs. But that's not how albums work, and why listening to compilations is often not as satisfying as listening to original albums. I've often suspected that the classic double album was in many cases a sign that the band had too much equally mediocre material, having originally set out to record a single album. Many exceptions of course
